“Consider some traps”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2012

The hotel is old and very basic. Not even nearly a 3-star. It seems that all rooms was bought out by Russian tour operator, so 99% of visitors are Russians.
There is no beach near the hotel! There are 2 beaches within 10min walk from the hotel - one belongs to Mirabello hotel, the other is municipal.
The hotel is very far from the city center with cafes & shops, so if you don't drive a car, consider staying in another hotel or paying 15eur for a return trip (2x during the night).
Shower is so small you can't even stoop down without splashing water on the floor. The notice on the wall is mocking you with "thank you for taking a shower, not a bath" line :)
You have to pay 5eur/day for the air conditioner. You have to pay 3 eur/day for the safe.
Food is decent, but average. Breakfast is always the same. They stopped offering feta cheese for the last week we stayed there.
The hotel offers free bottled water in the main bar & pool bar along with other drinks.
The rooms are small,
Overall impression: Good for bed&breakfast for the travelers who intend to rent a car and explore Crete on their own.
Not suitable for beach & hotel leisure.

Just home from 10 days at the Ormos/Crystal hotel. Food was plentiful & a good selection, all inclusive fruit drinks, beer, wine, water, tea & coffee served with meals as well as at pool bar during the day and hotel bar in the evening. Room was large with double bed, bathroom with shower & bath, fridge, air con, safe, balcony & tv, which did show some American films & comedy shows. Room was cleaned daily, bedding & towels changed too. Easily got a sunbed by the pool, which I watched being cleaned everyday but no separate childrens pool but the beach is just opposite the hotel, where the sea is shallow, with parasols & sunbeads. Staff were very friendly and helpful. If you need good wifi connection best to pay, the free is very slow, there are also 2 pcs to use by reception. Town centre is 15-20 min walk away or short taxi ride. Bus to Elounda stops nearby. If you hire a car there is large car park to leave your car in. Thank you to all the staff who made my stay enjoyable. I look forward to coming back soon

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of the hotel have a lovely view of the beach & towards the town and get sun o...

We spent wonderful 7 days in this hotel this July! The staff was very friendly and helpful! The room was cleaned every day.All the meals were delicious and healthy. Many kinds of drinks were included. There were always free sunbeds around the pool and on their own beach in front of the hotel.Special thanks to Andreas-the bartender, Dimitris-the receptionist, Esmeralda-the pool bar waitress and many many others. We would really like to come again! Igor.

Much better than expected after reading the reviews on this site. Hotel was clean, modern, pleasant reception and seating area, games facilities available, clean pool, lovely breakfast every day with a wonderful view of the bay, and friendly courteous staff. Sheets changed every day, and the balcony was also kept clean. Room was not luxurious but quite adequate and comfortable. Level walk to town, and closeness to local bus are real advantages.

In holiday places standards can slip towards the end of the season as the workers get tired and demotivated, however there was no sign of this happening at the Hotel Ormos, or indeed anywhere else in the area.

If price is an issue, this is by far one of the cheaper areas for accommodation in Agios Nikolaos (42 euros/night). In this case, you get what you pay for - the rooms are clean, but not particularly nice (nor is the pool or area around the hotel). It's also located about a 30 minute walk away from downtown, so travel back and forth must be done by cab or car. Breakfast is available and is good, but with little variety. Slightly disappointed with the knowledge of the staff - the owner told me explicitly that taking the bus from Agios Nikolaos to Chania would involve changing bus stations in Heraklion and a taxi ride, neither of which ended up being true. If you want to explore the surrounding regions of eastern Crete, though, it's a reasonable place to hang your hat.

Hotel Ormos was very clean. No problems getting a sun bed around pool at any time. Pool bar man very friendly, so was the maid. Breakfast basic but fresh and as much as you wanted. Hotel was like a ghost town of an evening, dont think we eve saw anybody apart from the receptionist after 6pm and we came and went at diferent times through our weeks stay. Would use as a base again if the price was cut drastically, definately not a three star. It helped enormously that the weather was in the thirties for the whole week and we spent most of our time on the beach.

Booked as a late deal pleasantly suprised beds comfortable standards of hygiene were excellent, cleaners on the go all day, asked for an extra pillow which was delivered within 20 minutes.Rooms basic but comfortable.Staff friendly and helpful.going to breakfast on the first morning could not believe the view over Ag Nik town, fantastic.Bus stop at the end of the road takes you to Elounda for 3 euros and is well worth the trip .Pleasant 20 minute walk into the centre of town plenty of bars and tavernas on the way if you want to stop off. Enjoyed the taverna at the municipal beach, lovely place to have lunch overlooking the sea good simple food.We had a great relaxing holiday, Ag Nik is a great town for people watching especially with the cruise ships coming in plenty to see and do and some nice shops to suit everyone.I would stay at the Ormos again and would recommend the hotel for a relaxing and enjoyable break.
