“A pleasant hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2014

It is a nice hotel, with good rooms, but they have small bathrooms. The reception people are kind. A small swimming pool and a nice yard. It offers tables to make breakfest outdoor. Far from the center.

Writing this review after the event - in fact when it's nearly time to make a return visit. Can't believe I have returned to the same hotel so many times so that in itself speaks volumes.
Rooms are clean and spacious. Breakfast yummy and a great meeting place (not forgetting Jeanette's happy hour and famous chips !)

Great place - great staff and great company - a fantastic combination!

Room Tip: Higher floors at front have great sea views

We are a little late writing this review, we stayed here Sept 2013 for 2 weeks and it was absolutely lovely.

Clean, tidy, well maintained with very friendly staff (special mention to Jeanette on the bar - who cooks the most amazing lunches, especially the chips!).

Good location, around a 30 minute stroll into the centre of the beautiful Ag Nic. Plenty of restaurants near by or a little further if you don't mind the walk.

Only few downsides would be the extra charge for the safe (which we were not aware of beforehand), the fact there is only one plug socket and also the size of the shower in the bathroom, my boyfriend found it quite a struggle to be able to turn around in the shower.

However don't let these minor issues put you off, as they were minor and did not impact our stay one bit. We would definitely stay here again and have recommended it to others.

Small, inexpensive and intimate hotel. Breakfast a small but just right. Parking space in the yard. Knossos tavern near it also I recommend. Small pool and children's playground. A nice alternative to the big international hotels.

Room Tip: Sea view and a second floor

This is my second review of the Lato after our wedding guests stayed at the hotel in June 2012 and it been a great base we all returned in June 2013 and had another fantastic holiday. There is nothing i can say in which we haven't said before but from checking in to checking out we felt like one of the family it was a joy to bump in to people we had met the year before and make new friends. All the staff are lovely and helpful and Jeanettes cocktails and chips are as everyone describes sensational...
It is a hotel more deserving then its 2 stars...The rooms are comfy and have more than what you need, try get a room with a view its breathtaking. The pool is great and usually quite warm always plenty of sunbeds. Ive never noticed the noise from the road that i have seen in other reviews. Happy hours is worth a visit.
Agios Nikolaos itself is lovely there is loads of nice places to eat and have a few drinks beware if you eat round the left handside of the lake it is more pricier than other places but do visit to the right of the lake the ice cream/waffle restaurant it is such a treat. Make sure you also chec out the market on market day it does get really busy but its worth a peek.
I am absolutely in love with agios nikolaos and the Lato and will return for many years to come i'm sure!!

My Husband and I have just spent yet another warm, relaxing two weeks at the Lato. The spirit of this wonderful gem never changes, from the minute you arrive to the minute you leave. The family owners are very welcoming and always strive to exceed the requirements of the guests. The rooms are clean and are constantly being updated and maintained, the maid service is second to none. You feel like you are staying in someone's home. Breakfast is a time to catch up with fellow guests over continental or cooked cuisine, and can be eaten on the outside patio in the morning sun. The pool and pool area is just the right size as not everyone stays in each day, and is very relaxing, yet a good place to socialise throughout the day. The icing on the cake is the evening when everyone gathers in the bar for happy hour, which usually results in silly hats and wigs and a good old sing song before ambling off to the local taverna for dinner. I have never seen anyone without a smile on their face at the Lato in the 14 years of staying there. Many a passer by on the road outside has an envious peep over the shrubbery at what must be the best plot and surroundings in Agios Nikolaos. It's not long before they are booking in themselves.

The hotel is just far enough out of the centre of town to have a nice stroll there and back, there are two close beaches, Havania and Ammoudi beach, or as me and my Husband prefer, there is a bigger beach about 50 minutes walk away in Almeiros, which takes you through the town onto a lovely coastal walk.

The tavernas close to the Lato provide excellent food and good value for money, namely the Avra and the Obelix. For those wishing to venture into town for a good meze, then the Paradasiako comes fully recommended. Located just down from the Hospital through a small gate, it is like sitting in someone's garden, the food is delicious and the atmosphere extremely relaxing. In the event of a night in on the balcony or by the bar you can always order in a tasty pizza from Twins restaurant, these are first class and delivery is quick, (and the pizzas are large!).

There is something for everyone by staying at this hotel, and as you may guess, we will be going back, and hopefully bump into some of the wonderful people we met there once again.

Room Tip: The second floor on the front provides awesome sea views, however the lower ones have quaint balconi...
