“spoilt our holiday”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2012

never go there again, so many things wrong with the apartments, maria was the ONLY one to do anything - infact she did everything. many people felt the same as us and just wanted their holiday over to get away from the place, if i was to list ALL that was wrong with the both the apartments i would use all 200 words!!!

Stayed here for one week early September. The location and views are great, as has been said many times, providing you have a car - I would not want to rely on buses and taxis. Be warned the hillside location and many steps, test even the fittest. The swimming pool and surrounding areas are very pleasant, but I cannot say the same about the accomodation. You expect basic in Greece, but our 2 bed apartment ( 26 ) was a severe disappointment. Apart from a coat of emulsion, nothing has been done since the 70's. The kithenette and bathroom are a disgrace and in desperate need of replacement. The limited furnishings are old and battered, with wardrobe and cupboard drawers that do not open or close properly. The beds and pillows are rock hard. Surprisingly, A/C is available, in the bedrooms only, but at a considerable supplement. This place is cheap, but you can do much better.

we got married in ag nic and all our guests stayed at kalithia! wow what a great time we all had 53 of us loved the pool and the veiws are second to none.maria who looks after the appartments does a 1st class job and nickos who runs the bar is fantastic ,we had a bbq on the wedding night and maria and nickos did everything for us. the price of everything was fantastic.
there is a little resaraunt 5 mins walk which was to die for.the owners of the appartments could not do enough for us ,it is a real freindly place to stay and they cant do enough for you.the rooms are clean and tidy and there is a little shop on site, you can also get tea and coffee and breakfast which is toast or a toastie yum yum.we will definatly be going back next year ,it cant come soon enough.

Room Tip: ask for a sea view

This is our third visit to these apartments which are great value for money. They are situated between Ag Nik and Elounda and a car is handy but not essential. The bus stops right outside going to both Ag Nik and Elounda. Taxi to Elounda is 7 Euros and to Ag Nik 8 - 10 Euros. These apartments are clean and basic as most in Greece if you expect more go 5 * or Delux accomodation. The pool is cleaned every day by Maria who works from dawn to dusk and is the loveliest person you will ever meet. Ps she loves kids. Nicos works the bar at night and again is a lovely man and will do anything for you. One of the owners owns Twins restaurant in Ag Nik and takeaway dihes can be ordered for delivery one of the other owners owns Aquarius bar in Ag Nik which is a great bar. These apartments and those ive mentioned make you welcome and the stay a very pleasant one. The views of Ag Nik and out to Spinalonga can not be beaten. We have been going to Ag Nik for 9 yrs and stayed in a number of Hotels/ Apartments and these for us beat the rest hands down. We will be returning. The apartments were full to capacity whilst we were there and that says something for its popularity and all we spoke to agreed a fantastic place to stay and would return.

Room Tip: 99% have sea view I am not aware of any that do not but ask and Nicos will make sure you have.

The apartments are based half way between Elounda and Agios so a car is essential if you are on a budget. We used taxis to go out and Nikos will order it for you from reception, 7 euros to Elounda and 10 to Agios, all Mercedes with air conditioning. The air conditioning in the apartments is extra it cost 112 euros for the fortnight but was worth every penny. The views are amazing and because it is small you quickly get to know everyone. There were people from all countries whilst we were there and all extremely friendly. Maria is amazing keeping the basic rooms clean and tidy. Our sheets and towels were changed at least 4 times and she made us laugh as she would always look around the pool to check who was out of their room so that she could clean it. The bar was well stocked and Nikos very friendly. You could get toast fruit juice etc if you wanted breakfast but to be fair you could cope with tea and biscuits in your room. We shopped in the local supermarkets in Elounda whilst out in the evening and bought bread etc so that we could make sandwiches etc for lunch. We didnt do any cooking as we ate out most nights or ordered takeaway from Twins restaurant in Agios. Nikos is happy to order the take away for you and there is no delivery charge, I recommend the salads as they are huge as are the pizzas and very reasonably priced. The restaurant across the road (just passed the church in the apartments) was amazing, the view is fab from their glass fronted balcony and there is no menu which is a bit of an adventure. The waiters will tell you what they have and you order what ever you like the sound of, no prices are given but we found it to be on a par with the restaurants in Elounda. The restaurants are excellent in Elounda and Agios, the best we found was the one opposite the park in Elounda next the the paper shop surrounded by trees excellent lamb kleftico and you always received free cake, watermelon and raki after your meal so dont order any pudding. The Crete wine is also very nice (not retsina) The restuarants in Agios around the lake are great and although they look quiet expensive they are actually quite reasonable. The Greek economy does seem to be suffering a bit and a few places have closed down and because if the euro it is no longer a cheap holiday destination. If you are looking for a relaxing break away from it all this is the place to go. I would revisit these lovely apartments again.

Room Tip: we stayed in a 2 bed apartment room 25 it was fab and the view was amazing.

The good: Spectacular view, friendly people ( special thanks to Maria who does pretty much everything ! ), cheap.
The bad: Dated accommodation, in desperate need of renovation, no TV in the room, the air con is charged extra (be aware because you will need it if you are there in July or August ! ), linen was clean but with some holes !, ants are everywhere, shower was temperamental and there was no wifi in the room.
I cannot comment on the food or the pool, as we did not make use of these facilities. There are so many excellent places to eat and so many wonderful beaches around, that there is no need to stay in the room. Remember to hire a car because the apartments are in the middle of nowhere !
If you are after some budget accommodation with basic amenities, this is an acceptable place to stay.
I do not believe the apartments are worth for more than 20-25 pounds per room per night.

Room Tip: Avoid ground floor rooms as you will have no privacy. Make sure you pay for air con. Book through se...

We were slightly anxious about choosing Kalithea apartments after reading conflicting reviews, but were really pleasantly surprised. The room was exactly like the photos; white, clean, stone floor, basic, white sheets and..the most amazing balcony with a panoramic view of the sea..stunning.
I loved the goats and hearing them first thing in the morning with their bells clanging.
We seemed to be the only people on the entire island without a car so we caught buses to Elounda and Agios which was fine. Added to our daily adventure. We were experts by the end of the week.
There's no food served here which seemed a bit weird, but there's an amazing cafe/restaurant just down the hill at the next apartments. We tried out the 'self catering'..not many tools for the job so stuck with breakfast at home and ate out for the rest.
The swimming pool is fab; clean, warm and big enough.
Maria is Wonder Woman! She seems to clean all the apartments single handed and does an amazing job!
Kalithea Apartments are on the top of the hill in between Agios and Elounda so buses or car is a necessity, unless you happen to like walking up very long hills with no pavement in the blistering heat.
We were on a budget so didn't use air conditioning so it was a little hot at night.
If you want to be in the middle of town and party don't stay here. If you love amazing views, quiet, goats, lovely people, sunsets, sunrises and lots of steps this is for you..and all for a tenner a night, bargain!

Room Tip: Email and say whether you need a double or twin. Room 18 is FAB!
