“Very good allround holiday location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2014

First time for us in Crete and what a super location this hotel is in this lovely resort. We were expecting this to be an Iberostar hotel but it seems to have been taken over by Dessole who also ran the hotel next door and a 5* along the bay.
We arrived near midnight and was pleased to see that a salad meal had been left for us in the fridge. The room was fine, a little tired in places but a super shower and great balcony overlooking the bay. No kettle (but had taken our own) although our friends on floor 7 had tea making facilities. Our perfectly decent flat screen TV was replaced with a brand new LG flat screen half way through the week. Safe was free too. As commented earlier the bed was a tad hard but we so exhausted most nights we crashed as soon as we hit the pillow.
The meals were very good, excellent variety (we were half board) and several nights had a BBQ themed dinners, and, much to our surprise drinks were fairly priced with 8euros for a decent bottle of wine.
All the staff were very friendly (as are the Cretans) and the hotel generally was clean and tidy.
Pool area was good with a slat water pool on the 5th floor or you could swim in the sea which was pleasant once you got your swimsuit wet! The snack bar for us non AI was also very reasonable and there was certainly no disadvantage in being HB. In fact en route home a fellow holidaymaker said he wished he'd gone HB too.
You are minutes walk from the town centre and harbour so couldn't be better located. The Animation team were nice and weren't in your face asking you to play mindless games all the time. The evening entertainment was ok, held in the area around the pool and adjacent to the restaurant. I had a look in the gym which seemed to have all the facilities for fitness fanatics.
So all in all we were very impressed and are seriously thinking of going back in October for an autumn break but would have no hesitation in returning to this hotel in the future. There is so much to see on this vast island

Room Tip: Second floor overlooking the sea was good. Once on floor 4 or above you overlook the pool area whic...

Just returned from a weeks stay at the Hermes hotel.Overall a very positive experience. Great location, very friendly helpful staff and good choice of freshly prepared food. Our room though a little dated was spacious and very clean. Bed linen and towels changed daily. Local buses stop outside the hotel and trips to Elunda cost just 1euro 60 each way. Recommend the special fish dinner which is served weekly at the pool bar dining area, you need to book this at reception in advance.

Room Tip: Choose a sea view room well worth the extra

We too are currently staying at this hotel and are first timers to the hotel and resort, and are all inclusive and also a family and make no apologies for that!
We have been so impressed by the level of service from all staff, well done Dissole, reception, bar staff, restaurant staff, cleaners, everyone is amazing. The food is exceptional and extremely well presented. As for the entertainment, we think the balance is just about right, but maybe we are more tolerant of everyone's needs! The music is only loud when the aqua aerobics takes place, 20 minutes max!
The negatives - the rooms are a bit dated although spotless and shelves in the wardrobes would help with storage.
We are not ones to go back to the same resort each year as the world is too big a place. Would we recommend this hotel and use Dessole again? You bet, keep up the good work, we are having a fab time, thank you so much.

First impressions of the hotel were that it was very smart, the staff were pleasant and helpful and the outlook from the front of the hotel was fabulous, right across Mirabello Bay.
The reception, dining room, outside dining areas, pool bar, pool and other bars were all very clean and smart, and the service and staff were excellent.
The stairs and corridors however were a bit dingy and musty and probably needed a bit of air con, also the corridors to the bedrooms seemed to echo a bit at night so were quite noisy with voices, slamming doors etc. at least on the higher floor where we were (maybe we were just unfortunate to have inconsiderate neighbours) but the sun and sea and all inclusive drinks didn't allow us to stay awake worrying about it for too long!!!!
The food was very good/excellent on most nights, with a good variety, and the breakfasts were excellent too.
The all-inclusive drinks were also great - no limits, no small measures or weak alcohol content, we even had Baileys last thing at night.
Also need to say that the Greek musicians on one night were fabulous.
Our room had a great balcony at the front (two floors above the pool) with fabulous views but we didn't think that it was really a 4* room. The hairdryer in the bathroom was useless and kept falling apart and the extractor also didn't work. We also had family members staying in another room down the corridor and they said it was the same in theirs. The air con in our room was OK but theirs didn't work.
The locals were a little bit put out that there was an all inclusive hotel so close into town, but as always with Greeks they were kind & friendly and welcoming, so perhaps try to eat and drink out in the town at least once.
So overall it was great, nothing to spoil the holiday, but maybe needs a bit of an upgrade.

Room Tip: Ask for front facing and probably above the pool for better views.

We are currently staying at the Hermes Hotel, our favourite in Ag Nik. We have stayed here many times and love its views, location, staff, rooms and food. But most of all we have enjoyed the calm and tranquility offered by this lovely hotel. Sunbathing around the pool area overlooking the most amazing sea has been the highlight of of annual holiday to Ag Nik. We have visited with various friends and recommended the Hermes to many others. All agree.
However, this is our first visit since DeSSole have taken over.
We are so disappointed by the noisy, tacky, very undersubscribed daytime animation programme more usually associated with Magaluf in the 80's. take a look management at how few people engage in these activities. Surely this tells you something.
This has totally changed the vibe of this glorious gem in Ag Nick's crown, which has always been an adult focused hotel with numerous repeat holidaymakers.
Sadly it is now mostly All-In and geared at families rather than its historical clientele.
Our welcome drink and warm reception was nice, and our request for a regular room had also been granted. This had been dealt with effectively by email.
The music around the pool is far too loud and how many times can one listen to "Your sexy and you know it", (which by the way management, is NOT an appropriate song choice for young children to listen to) and definitely not the kind of rubbish your loyal repeat customers want to be subjected to several times a day.
Many regulars who we have spoken to said the same thing. Unless the Hermes reverts to the more classy establishment is was under Iberostar, they will not be returning. The evening music is also very loud. No good for those hoping for an early night. However, if it was just the evenings fair enough, but on top of the daytime racket, the Hermes is no longer the oasis of calm we knew and loved.
The rooms are tired and need a bit of TLC, air con not as effective as it has been, probably needs replacing. But these things could be forgiven if the peace and tranquility of the Hermes were to be restored.

Room Tip: We love a sea view room on a lower room, but this does incur some road noise. The views are to die f...

This was a 2 week half board summer holiday with my 23 yr old daughter. Perfect location for walking into Aghios. Food was delicious and themed nights such as barbecue and Greek etc made it more special. Entertainment was live and varied. Staff were helpful and attentive at all times. I recommend one books a room with a sea view and although we had an amazing time this hotel is definitely most suited to families and couples as my daughter found it lacking for her age range as far as the fun factor was concerned. Also, we tried to book a massage at the same time but was told there was only one masseur and would have to book separate times so we didn't bother. Also, although the laying of towels on sunbeds was an annoying factor there was never a shortage of beds whatever time you went to the sun terrace. All round a hotel with high standards, helpful staff and central location.

Room Tip: Sea view recommended.
