“Fabulous relaxing holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2012

My sister and I have just returned from a very enjoyable week at the Daois Cove, the hotel and surroundings are just gorgeous, built totally in keeping with the surrounding area and so tastefully done, we had a beautiful room on the second flour side facing towards the cove below, the whole site is spotless clean, the staff are so polite and well presented at all times, they are a credit to Melia hotel group,we were on half board basis and the food particularly in the main restaurant was outstanding, something to suit every palate and taste always, however we did have one meal at the Taverna which was really not good. In fact we complained and the management arranged for us to have an extra meal on our last evening free of charge, we would strongly recommend this hotel, one other small issue we had was that on our last evening we had problems with our coach being cancelled and then no transport turning up at all to take us to the airport, the reception staff rang u.k.for us a few times and sorted our transport to arrive on time, we will return to this hotel in the near future, we had really lovely holiday,

Daios Cove is one of the best hotels (resort) I´ve ever been.

First of all, we were upgraded and got better rooms that we had paid. We were staying in a villa and had our own pool. When you are staying in the villa you get a bit better service. For example there were breakfast area only for the villa guests and you could order from the menu.

With the kids own pool was great. Kids wanted to swim all the time and we adults didn´t want to spend the whole day in the beach so we were relaxing in our villa and the kids were swimming and playing there. We even got the pool fences so the younger ones were safe.

Usually we walked in resort area but sometimes we took a car. You could order a car to pick you up or when going from the hotel you can just go and wait for the car to pick you up. It´s great that the resort area is quit a big. When traveling with kids you don't want to spend the whole day sitting in a car and going across the Crete, so we basically spend the whole week in the resort area and still didn´t have any boring time.

We ate in the buffet in the evenings. It was ok, but gotta say that after a week we were pretty done with that food. But there´s a few restaurant also and babysitter service too if you want to go to restaurant and leave your kids to the nanny for a few hours.

Very childfriendly place, all the stuff always said something nice to the kids and the stuff were very polite and friendly to us also. And they actually seemed real, and didn´t just "act" nice :) But I wouldn´t recommend for a single person or bunch of friends, there´s not much action.. Of course there is a nearest city just 10min taxi drive.

And, they had pillow menu! You can choose a pillow you want from the menu, I think it´s hilarious!

We have just returned from a weeks holiday at Daios Cove Luxury Resort and Villas. We have had a relaxing week and have enjoyed the greek weather and hospitality.
Good points
We had a lovely room with our own pool, the sun stayed on the pool and terrace area until around 2pm and then we went down to the beach to enjoy the rest of the sunshine. There are three restaurants, two are a la carte and you receive 2o euros discount per person and the other is a buffet restaurant which is good.I would also recommend visiting Agios Nicholaos for an evening meal/shopping or going into Elounda, We visited a good restaurant in Elounda called Ferryman Taverna, which I would recommend.
There is one bar open until 12am with chilled sounds so when you have finished your meal you can have a drink and relax but no actual entertainment.
Bad points
The beach is shingle not pure sand and you will need your sea shoes as this can be uncomfortable on your feet.
The drinks are expensive so you will need to go into Agios to stock up on local beers and wines and that can be 24 euros round trip. A vodka and coke is 8 euros and a bottle of wine can start from 24 euros and go over 100 euros so your room bill will be high. But then again , you are on holiday!
The TV stations are very limited and although you do not go away to watch the TV, when you are getting ready to go out its good to put the TV on but you have BBC News, Sky News and that`s it.
We found the transfers from and to the airport annoying as we were told a maximum of 1hr 40 mins but the return transfer to the airport was 2hrs 30 mins so please request a taxi transfer as you will be the last drop off when you arrive and the first pick up when you leave.
Overall a beautiful destination, the hotel areas are spotless and you have free WIFI all over the hotel complex. The staff are extremely helpful and work hard to ensure the guests have an enjoyable stay at Daios Cove.

I'm sat here writing this review as I want to share with everyone right now, just how fantastic this resort is!!!!

First point of contact you receive is 1st class!! Suitcases whisked away and your greeted and given ice cold face towels by a charming guest relation member who invites you onto the glass viewing platform to take a peek of a breathtaking resort that awaits...... WOW! Then down to to the veranda bar where we were given a glass of ice cold orange juice whilst the formalities of registration were dealt with.

Then we were escorted to a club car and taken to our suite, get ready to be blown away!!!!!! The whole layout is outstanding, from the decor inside to the local stone, glass and chrome on our patio/pool area...... The view is "to die for" the cove below looks so pretty and inviting however the privacy of our own pool and sun terrace puts a real spanner in the works! Own pool or cove beach?? Well we've done half and half so far!

We are on 6th street which is far enough away from the action so it remains peaceful but not too far that its a pain to get there thanks to the club car that's only a phone call away, the guys arrive outside with a friendly smile a take you down to the resort, the service you receive from each and EVERY member of staff is faultless, genuinely lovely people and a credit to the resort, the restaurant manager floored my partner by saying "good morning Mr Fletcher how was your wine last night" having maybe spent 5minutes with us the previous night looking through the wine list.... Great customer focus!!!

We haven't finished our holiday yet however I wanted to share our experience so far, just in case anybody thinking about booking a trip here was undecided ........ DON'T HESITATE!!

Room Tip: Higher floors have the sun far longer

Myself and my partner booked our 10day holiday via destinology. From the moment we arrived we were greeted and had our luggage whisked away to our room whilst we enjoyed a refreshing drink overlooking the amazing cove. We were given a run down of what was where in the hotel which was very helpful in a hotel of this size.

Our room was room 508. Large, clean - perfect bed! ...and a lovely fruit bowl to greet us. The balcony was also very spacious but with a poor view of shrubs! But the amazing views from everywhere else in the hotel made up for this.

We were half board and really enjoyed the beakfasts. Plenty of choice to suit all. The evening meals included a carvery of various meats every night and various other meats on offer. Also salad selections and cold meats and cheese were avaliable. We did find the meals a bit predictable and sadly not very hot! If you dont get your food at the same time as your partner -you have to tuck in quick or it will be stone cold by the time they return. This was a little tricky and I often found myself on dessert while my boyfriend was still on his main course!

All costs throughout your stay are added to your room number. This means that you never need to carry cash with you (which is a bonus!) but also that you quickly loose track of what you are spending. There were a few shocked faces when people checking out got their invoices.

5* prices for 2* drinks unfortunatly!

The bulk of the staff appear to be EU workers. Most were very helpful and interetsed in your comfort. Some - not so much........I found some of the girls that showed you to your tables at mealtimes rude and judgemental. My partner found it very frustrating that they I was looked up and down every time we entered the restaurant.

The evenings entertainment was zero! some gentle music in an almost silent bar was as much as it got - which is perfect for some people but not others. All the bars close at 1am so any late drinks are had in your room.

on the whole we had an amazing; very relaxing 10 days! Best sleep I have had in ages. I would recommend this hotel to anyone coming to crete (but I would advise stocking up on drink at the airport!!)........which reminds me - Heraklion Airport is a joke. Far too many people not knowing whats going on in such a small place. Thankfully - no dealys :-)

Room Tip: get to dinner for 7pm for the best selection and HOT food

My wife and i honeymoon'd here in early August 2012, the resort itself was good, however our room was not available when we arrived so we had to downgrade for 2 nights, and then received a nice upgrade for the rest of our stay.

However, the Thomas cook transfer was a absolute disgrace, not only was it 2.5 hours each way when we were told it was 1 hour – and this didn’t just happen to us, I got talking to a few Thomas cook travelers at the resort and they all said the same thing.

Just to cap off a bad transfer, we were bundled off our coach on the hard shoulder, on a blind bend and ushered into a car for the final 10 miles or so of our jouirney

Not a great start to a honeymoon I think you would agree

The resort itself great, but will not being travelling with Thomas Cook ever again

I did complain on my return to which they took 28 days to reply, We were told we should have taken our complaint up with the Thomas Cook rep at the resort, and not when we returned home

Really really disappointed with Thomas Cook!

We have recently returned from an 11 night stay at Daois Cove. We booked through Destinology who offered us a much better price than any other travel agents or tour operators. We also got a free upgrade to half board at the time of booking although all agents/tour operators seemed to offer this so I imagine it's a seasonal offer from the hotel itself.

Room: Fantastic. We stayed on '7th street' (toward the top of the complex) and had a 'side sea view' room. Massive room, considering that a 'side sea view' room seems to be the 'standard' room type'; Huge double bed, additional seating area with sofa, coffee table and separate table and chairs in front of a mirror so perfect for the better half to make up and dry/straighten hair etc. Lovely bathroom consisting of a bath with shower attachment, a separate Monsoon shower and separate wc. Loads of luggage space too and a flatscreen wall mounted TV above the dressing table. We also had a large balcony complete with a sofa and a table and chairs, and a lovely view of the cove and out to sea. NB 'Side sea view' just means that are on the side of the cove as opposed to at the head/front of the cove, so you still get a full sea view (I think you do with all rooms from what we could see).

Food: AWESOME!
Buffet Breakfast - Pretty much the same everyday but pick from lots of fresh fruits, yoghurts, tinned fruits, toast, bread, rolls, jams, marmalade, honey, cereals, nuts, pastries, cakes and muffins, salads, cold meats and cheeses, scrambled/poached/boiled or fried eggs, omelettes (made to order if you want), pancakes and waffles and then bacon, sausage, beans etc.

Dinner: The main 'Pangea' restaurant (included in the half board package) was buffet style and whilst it wasn't Gourmet food there were themed nights (one for each night of the week) which offered good variety and every night there was plenty of choices for starters, mains, desserts and cheeses. The standard of food, and standard of cooking, was fantastic. The meats and fishes were always cooked perfectly, lots of slow cooked lamb and pork dishes, and beautifully cooked salmon and perch stand out in my memory. Yes there is some repitition from night to night but there is so much on offer that it doesn't matter and even after 10 nights we were not bored of the food, quite the opposite!

A la carte restaurants: We didn't eat at the Ocean restaurant but ate once at the Tavern which is in a lovely setting directly overlooking the beach and cove and offers traditional dishes. Great standard of food here and with 20 Euro per person discount it works out great value (29 Euro for 2 course dinner with a drink for 2 people!).

Public Area: FANTASTIC!
We spent most of our time by the pool which is amazing. The sun loungers are the most comfortable we've ever had the pleasure of. It's an infinity pool too and so the views are amazing. Yes the pool is a bit on the chilly side but those previous reviewers complaining just need to 'man up' a bit if you ask me - once you're in, it's fine. There's a shaded bar area and an actual pool bar (shallow pool with bar stools). The beach area is also lovely with an abundance of parasols and (not quite so comfy) sun loungers and a beach bar along with reasonably priced water sports on offer.

We didn't use it but the spa area was lovely too. The bar was ok and there was plenty of lounge areas to sit around and chill out.

Service: Generally very very good.
Concierge and Reception were excellent and very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The service at breakfast and dinner was not quite 5 star and there were a couple of grumpy old men. Had we paid full whack in peak seaon then this might ave bothered me but as we didn't then it didn't really matter. Having said that there were some really great waiters/waitresses.

Overall the holiday was amazing and probably the best holiday we've had.

The only downside was that the drinks and food were very expensive. Litre bottle of water was 4.50 euros at dinner and 3 euros at the pool bar (basically you need to get to Agios and stock up on bottled water!). A cheeseburger and chips or club sandwich and chips was 15/16 euros at the pool bar so lunches would be pretty expensive ( we just made up a couple of cheese rolls at breakfast and had these otherwise our room bill would have been astronomical).

Also it is 26 Euro round trip to Agios (the nearest town) so if you are the type of people that like to get out and about every other day then maybe look elsewhere but if you're happy to spend your days lazing by the pool or on the private beach then this place is perfect.

I also would not recommend for people with limited mobility as it is built into a hillside (lots of steps and steep slopes)
