“Would not stay here again”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2012

Just returned from a week at the Eleni Apartments. Vast difference in the standard of rooms. We were in room 6 which is located underneath the swimming pool , has no windows and when you open the balcony door you are confronted by a brick wall so room very gloomy. Balcony tiny, barely room for the plastic table and 2 chairs -you have to sit at the chair then get friend to put table in place before they position their chair otherwise you cannot squeeze past. Room 7 is much better. Poor location with 130 steps down to beach. We found a better route by going down to basement at rear of apartments then turning right which avoided the steps and was much quicker. Strange that the Olympic rep did not advise guests of this shortcut. I would definitely not stay here again and would advise anyone who books these apartments to check which room they will be going into as many have no balconies at all.

Room Tip: Avoid room 6 as there are no windows and the french doors open onto a concrete wall. Room 7 is much...

Booked a 'maisonette' last minute with Olympic hoildays as we were going away with our 25 year old daughter and we would all have liked a bit of privacy. In fact the one room is open plan with single beds up on a mezzanine and a very grubby sofa bed in lounge area...ended up paying another 20 euros a night for another room for daughter...which was grim! The guy who owns them will charge you for every extra he can. The good bit is our room had a fantastic view...but that was good luck..the ones lower down on the block are like bunkers. He didn't do the hard sell on the family restaurant..just mentioned it in passing (apparently had been warned by Olymic not to do so). As I said balcony had amazing view but if you had the air con on (which you definately needed in August) you couldn't sit on it due the heat blasting out from the unit positioned on the balcony. The shower room was typically Greek but it was a mission to get to the loo without stubbing your toe on the edge of the shower tray.On the plus side the towels were new and plentiful! The pool was indeed small, as described, with room for about 5 sun beds around it. I have had about 20 holidays to Greece so am used to budget accomodation but this was probably the worst. Also beware of the 200+ steps down to the beach. We are reasonably fit walkers and they are a killer in the heat. The town is beautiful and area lovely with lots of nice tavernas, Knossos was our favourite, but I wouldn't choose this accomodation again!

Room Tip: Rooms higher up have the best views.

Beware apartment 15 - a windowless bunker. We didnt complain though because our 2 lads were in the apartment above (14) and it was very cheap and cool. 14 opens up onto pool (small). Towels fine. Cleaned more or less every day. Well equipped kitchen. Never had an extractor fan above a baby belling before! (2 ring). Yanis was very frindly and even friendlier if you visisted his family restaurant. Good local restaurant less than 50 metres (on right going into town). Reasonably priced supermarket across the road. Big superrmarket 10 mins away. Bus station 5 mins away. Beach 6/7 mins away. Middle of town/lake15 mins.

Returned on Tuesday 23 September 08 from Agios Nikolaos, Crete. The area we stayed in was ideal, very central to the harbour and shops/restaurants. The Eleni Studios is only a 2 star rating, and I would have expected slightly more from the apartments. The towels albeit were clean, were discoloured and had patches of dark grey marks over them and were quite threadbare, and the sheets were not changed the whole time we were there. It is advertised on the tour operators website, quote, "Our opinion: This family run complex is well equipped, beautifully maintained and ideally based for those who want to be close to the resort's amenities. The accommodation is well equipped and beautifully maintained by the friendly owners", whilst I agree it is close to the resorts amenities, if having plastic plates, 1 fork, 2 knifes, 1 teaspoon and 2 mugs which needed to be washed prior to us making a coffee, is classed as well equipped, bearing in mind there were two of us in the apartment then our standards must be too high. When taking a shower, the floor area got totally soaked with the water spilling out into the kitchen/bed area, you then needed to be careful as the floor became slippery. The water is heated by solar and due to a couple of cloudy days, we were unable to shower for 2 days as they do not appear to have a back up system for days when the sun is not shinning, therefore the water stays cold. The whole place could really do with being refurbished. The swimming pool is very small and is more of a dip pool than a swimming pool and would certainly not be suitable for children. The sun bathing area is up a flight of stairs, which is basically in view of the main road, not very private. The owner is very friendly, in fact is a bit too much in your face. On the day of our arrival, the owner asked us and another couple if he could buy us a drink, so as we were being taken in his car, he told us of a great little taverna which was very cheap and excellent food, where we get a 10% discount, it turns out he has some affiliation to this Kri Kri taverna. We had our free drink and left to look around the habour area. One last point if you are offered the air con, wait to see whether you really need it, once we paid for it, we were told not to keep it on when not in our room as it could cause a fire, not heard this one before, I presume it's to save on the electricity. I would definitely go back to the area but would stay somewhere else.

  • Liked — Close to all amenities
  • Disliked — There was no one around after say 7pm, if you had any problems or needed to discuss anything, you would have needed to wait until the morning.
