A good island for a holiday, the beaches in the south part of the island are in my opinion much better than those in the north that can get affected by strong winds, particularly end of August/beginning of September. Hersonissos in the north is buzzing with life, and Agios Nikolaos is a lovely town with many nice fish restaurants. Chania is by far the most character-ful town, def worth a visit

Just returned, from this holiday. The apartment was simple, clean, and with all basic amenities to self cater. It had a bathroom/shower room combind.
The coplex was a 20min walk away from the village-where there was a variety of shops-bars- and cafes.
A bus ride away was Hernorssis- with bright shiny bars and cafes, with all night music etc.
Analipsi- perfect for relaxing, slow paced holiday.
Would i go back- YES.

I have just returned from a one week holiday in Stalis, Crete. I found Crete was a really lovely place to visit. The local people there could not be nicer. Very friendly and helpful.

However I would advise anyone on holiday there to avoid the BBQ on the beach trip or the Big Greek Night out. These trips are a total rip off. We went on the Big Greek Night and it was a disaster and expensive. It cost 43euro each. We were taken from hotel to hotel collecting people and ended up on the bus for one and a half hours. When we got to the venue it was a free-for- all to get a seat and food. There were hundreds of people there. When we went to the buffet to get our food there were no potatoes left and very little meat. Also no desserts left. We were told we would get wine and minerals free with our meal, but ended up having to pay for the soft drinks.
The show itself was not bad, but not worth 43euro.
We did not go to the BBQ, but heard it was just as bad.

I just returned from a fabulous one week adventure in Crete. I could never have imagined what a variety of scenery and experiences one island could provide! There were dramatic mountain peaks, rugged cliffs, beautifully cultivated vinyards and olive groves, pristine lakes, amazing caves, fascinating Minoan and Roman ruins, gorgeous beaches, and quaint old villages. We stayed in the very small village of Pendamodi about 30 minutes south of Iraklion. It was an excellent base for exploration and we felt as if we were "locals" rather than tourists. After a day in the car, it was wonderful to walk to the delightful nearby taverna for a delicious and inexpensive meal. Our house was charming. Although it has a timeless, traditional look, it was built very recently so everything feels very new, clean and modern inside. There are beautiful gardens, a lovely swimming pool, and spectacular views. All of our travel arrangements were made through Cachet Travel in London (020 8847 8700). One price per person included a charter flight from London, the house and a car. I highly recommend this vacation!
