Short distance to beach, windows faced to north give the hotel a big advantage. Large balcony where sun comes for couple of hours in the evening time is really nice. It is very clean and cleaner is very nice and friendly lady. Unfortunately I can not say the same about owners. We had a little pleasure communicating to them. Also we wanted to rent a car and send couple of e-mails but there was no reply.
Kitchen is quite basic, no dish washing liquid/sponge provided. Pillows are extremely uncomfortable. There is one wardrobe in four person apartment.

Room Tip: rooms 208, 218, 228 are close to swimming pool with bar where pop music is playing all day

Just back from two weeks at the Elpis.
Fairly sound Greek Studio style accommodation, hemmed in on one side by complex next door so most room views are of a wall.
Left me with a general impression of brick and concrete.
Cant fault cleanliness, all well looked after and rooms quite spacious.
We stayed in a one bedroom apartment R101, good views but no cover over verandas so when it rained you were stuck indoors.
Been to Bali several times and tried to locate Elpis on map sites, all show wrong location.
As you pass Lisa Mari left and Supermarket right it is on the next bend and much further out than maps imply
"Supermarket "next door is more of a gift shop, better one turn left &5mins uphill
Two larger supermarkets turn right and about 15/20 mins walk.
Cant quite see all the" excellent " comments
Poppy was pleasant enough Dimiitri only spoke if you did and seemed more wrapped up in the car hire rather than the apartments.
Went with Sunshine/easyjet and at £735 for 2 weeks in 1 Bedroom was good value but that is about all its woth

Room Tip: keep well away from Bar, can be noisy at nights and the sound really does get amplified by the walls

A place very nice, clean and quiet most times...

+ : room cleaned daily, linen changed every 3 days, nice and big balcoon
-: one can take a shower only until 6-7 p.m., otherwise no more warm water if hotel is fully occupied; the lock of the door to the balcoon was damaged, as it was the insect net.

Nice people, enjoyable time at the pool and bar, really good deal to hire a car from Elpis.
Nice staff indeed.

Room Tip: On the highest level will be appropriate for silence...but I suppose any room will do finally.

Elpis Hotel Bali Crete.
The first thing to say about The Elpis is that the family are very friendly and will help in any way they can. The rooms are large and modern with fridge, kettle and enough utensils to cook a simple meal and all spotlessly clean. The rooms were cleaned daily and linen changed every second day. The bathroom was modern with a good shower. The pool bar is very good and the staff are there until last one out. They show a movie early in the evening over the pool on the end wall of the apartments, it works great. The only downsides of Bali for me were, no ATM and no bank, the nearest is over 8 kilometres away which was a huge problem for many people as they had put their money on a fixed interest rate card. Although the beach nearest The Elpis is on the flat, take your climbing boots to get to the harbour beach, it is very, very hilly but the restaurants are all good with some great panoramic views. I you are looking for a lively resort this is not for you, they could have named it Sleepy Town with no bother at all. If you want a very quiet family resort this is for you

Stayed for 2 nights with two boys 11 and 14. Enjoyed the pool and pool bar. Air conditioning worked well. Beds comfortable and clean. Only mis-aligned shower curtain allowed water to run onto bathroom floor. Free Wi-Fi connection was strongest on balcony.

We enjoyed a lovely 2-week stay at the Elpis Studios & Apartments. We were lucky enough to have room 102 at the front of the hotel with the fabulous view of the bay in front and the mountains behind. Although the lovely, hot morning sun is so intense on the balcony we couldn't sit out there then.
The room is basic but adequate (fridge, 2 hotplates & kettle), and was cleaned and bins emptied EVERY DAY by lovely friendly lady and towels/sheets changed every 3 days. (which is fine). Hot water available all the time. All the staff were really friendly and helpful.
Vaia in the pool bar is always smiley and chatty to everybody. She provides a good range of bar snacks in the pool bar, room service if you want it and good cocktails. We meant to enjoy the hotel happy hour but never made it! The pool area was under-used when we were there, so there were always sunbeds available. The pool itself not used too much but then its quite deep, so the water stays a bit on the cold side. Wi-fi a bit erratic, especially at front of the hotel but this was the case generally in this part of Bali, it was stronger in the Port area.
Please note however that the ATM machine in Bali has been taken away in the last few weeks - some people may want to review their currency arrangements accordingly. Because the hotel runs a hire car business they were kind enough to give us a lift to another town to an ATM, and then we took money out when visiting other towns.
Also note that the location of the Elpis is not where I thought it was from Google Earth - its just behind the Bali Star, near the 3rd of the 4 beaches. (I will try to put a photo on in the right location). Supermarket very handy, 5 minute walk to beach and tavernas. 15 minute walk to the port, either up very steep hill or longer but slower slope around. In the other direction about a 20 minute walk to the bus stop on the main road.
We opted not to hire a car, but we went on the bus to Chania, neighbouring village Panormo (has an ATM and a nice harbour) and Rethmynon, as well as a very pleasant day boat trip (Calypso Cruises) to Rethmynon and an excursion tour to Knossos and Heraklion. We could have done the latter trip on our own by bus or car, but its nice to have a tour guide occasionally.
Bali is a lovely although hilly resort, where nobody hassles you to eat in their restaurant/buy in their shop etc. Bali is very popular with Russians, as well as French, Germans and British. It does have a lovely peaceful feel, its not a resort for the young who want to go clubbing, but more suited to families and couples.
I don't want to go overboard on recommending restaurants, because there are no bad ones in Bali and the discovery is part of the fun. However I will say that the food is superb in Valentino's by the port and the cocktails are fab in the lovely family run Star Bar, also by the port. All the restaurants will bring raki and treats like watermelon and desserts with the bill, and crisps and watermelon with your beers / cocktails are not uncommon (especially the Star Bar).
We found Bali a lot less expensive than we anticipated. Evening meal, 2 main courses with drinks was generally around €20, lunch for 2 €10-€15. Large draft beer €3, cocktails €6.50.
There was no charge for using the room safe at the Elpis, air con was €8 a night (payable at the start), which is not unusual. The crime rate is low in Crete, and the whole place felt very safe, although this doesn't mean not taking precautions as usual.
I did get some mossie bites (late June/early July).
If I did go back I would contact the hotel for airport transfers. Holiday taxis (booked through Easyjet) was OK and reliable, but on the way there we sat for 1.5 hours waiting for other flights before the bus left and on the way back they were 15 minutes earlier than they said and we got to the airport 3.5 hours before the flight!
I would certainly recommend the Elpis for families or couples on a budget who want self-catering facilities, and Bali as a resort to anyone who is looking for a peaceful, scenic place with nice beaches (sunbeds €6 pair) and tavernas. We generally don't return to the same holiday destination, but would consider returning to the Elpis/Bali.
