There is a lot to like about Matala View. Manolis and Sofia are very friendly and the breakfast is worth the 5€ cost. We also had a studio which had a lot of space and a small kitchenette, not that we used it for anything other than brewing the occasional cup of tea. That in itself was something of an event as there was only a huge pan with which to heat the water!

Unfortunately, our stay was marred by a problem with the supply of water. Just a trickle came from the taps and the "hot" was never more than tepid. A barely adequate flow of lukewarm water came from the shower, which made washing problematic. Sofia did attempt to ensure the water was heated for our final morning, but it made no noticeable difference.

We were informed that work had been undertaken on the water tank during the winter and that might have been the cause of the problems with the supply, although it does not account for the lack of hot water. Once the owners were alerted to the issues, we were promised that they would be addressed, which does rather beg the question why everything was not checked before they opened.

Given the number of years that the establishment has been operating and the apparent keenness of people to return, it was probably just an unfortunate blip. Nevertheless, it would be worthwhile checking everything is resolved before booking. Based on our experience, it is not somewhere that I can recommend, good value that it is, and my wife and I will not be amongst those who make a repeat visit.

We have stayed twice in mid-May at Matala View with children (five and six year olds), the second time we came with their grandmother as well and can report satisfaction for all age groups. Both times we enjoyed nice weather and relatively peaceful beaches, of which there is a nice variety within striking distance (the closest just down the street - perfect for Grandmother!) Manolis and Georgia are very helpful and pleasant and super informative about connections (rentals, restaurants, purchases, items of regional interest).

My girlfriend and I visited Matala for the third time this year, and as usual we stayed at the Matala View. The Matala view gives a warm, friendly welcome and the rooms are clean, comfortable and have good facilities.

The people who run the Matala View are great - they always make sure that you want for nothing and will bend over backwards to make your stay pleasant and convenient (including booking taxis to and from the airport for you).
