I stayed at the Acropole for one night in fall 2007, and found it charming. I was very happy with my stay here despite the few negatives listed below.
Positives:
– The location is excellent, right in the center of town and within walking distance to the ancient site. There are many restaurants, shops, Internet cafes, etc., within easy walking distance.
– I had an upper floor room with an outstanding view over the valley to the sea – one of the more beautiful views I’ve had in a hotel.
– My room was quite spacious (I had a single), with simple but pleasant decor. There was a reading light over the bed as well, o bliss! The bed was firm but comfortable for me.
– The shower had excellent hot water temperature and pressure but was extremely tiny.
– Despite it being October, the hotel still had the A/C on, and it was excellent, nice and cool, just how I like it.
– The hotel is not on one of the main two streets in Delphi but on a quiet street running parallel along and down the mountainside from them, which made it very quiet. You do have to climb up fairly long staircases (or take the more gradually climbing longer way around on the streets) to get from the hotel street to the main streets, but I like exercise so I was fine with this.
– The immediate area is charming. Right next to the hotel was a lovely little house with chickens, gardens, flowers, etc., and I got some of my better Greece trip photos in this area.
– The staff at this hotel were extremely helpful. I accidentally left an item of clothing (not an expensive one, but I did very much want it back) in a restaurant near the hotel and had to leave Delphi before the restaurant re-opened. The hotel took my address, tracked the item down once the restaurant opened, and DHL’d it to me in the U.S. immediately. Above and beyond the call of duty. I owe them big-time for their kindness.
Negatives/other factors:
– The breakfast buffet was unimpressive, with a minimal selection and no hot items.
– Although at first glance my room seemed very clean, I later found a half-eaten bag of junk food and a cigarette lighter in the bedside drawer.
– Noise from other floors transmitted itself very strangely between floors via the bathrooms. When I was in mine, I could hear all sorts of things going on in the ones above and below me.
In summary, because of the location, the quiet, the A/C, the views, and the wonderful staff, I would very happily return to the Acropole. I also loved Delphi, which contained my favorite ruins in Greece and which was a charming town to spend a little time in.
