“great little hotel! great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2013 via mobile

due to an overnight flight we arrived at this hotel about 3am. There was someone ready and waiting for us and knew us by name.

The room was basic but all we needed was a bed for the night. it had air con... tv and was clean. This hotel was perfect for a one night stay next to the port where we were sailing from the following day. perfect location... helpful staff! lovely little hotel.

We loved the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff at this hotel. From the moment we checked in, we felt our patronage was valued. In response to various queries, we were immediately given a complimentary - and very good - map of Athens on which we were shown where things were that we needed. We were catching a ferry to Rhodes the next day and Glaros was the perfect hotel to meet our needs. We stayed there on our return as well and enjoyed it just as much.

If you are looking for luxury, this hotel is not for you: it is old and the furnishings are minimal. However they are adequate and our room was clean and comfortable. A big plus was the free wifi which worked perfectly in our room and in the lobby. There is a little restaurant in the lobby which was great for a drink and a snack in the evening when we got 'home'.

Most importantly, the hotel is very conveniently situated, close both to the harbour and the metro. If you need to buy tickets to get the the islands, there are a multitude of agents (between Gates E7 and 8), both inside and outside the harbour, which is within easy walking distance of the hotel. The entrance to the Metro is right next to Harbour Gate E7. It costs 1 euro 40 (one way) to go into Athens - a quick, easy trip and the trains run frequently. If you get off at Thissio or Monastiraki, you can enjoy the Acropolis and the Flea Market which closes at about 21:00. Wear non-slip shoes especially for the Acropolis - the old flagstones are extremely slippery with age. We found a little Museum of Music which has outdoor concerts at night (20 euros, per person, I think) and a fabulous range of Greek music CDs for sale.

To get back to the airport, take Bus X96. The ticket kiosk is right next to the bus stop on the square between Gates E7 and E8. A ticket costs 5 euros (one way) and buses run hourly or half hourly depending on the time of day. It took us a full hour to get to the airport and that wasn't in the rush hour. Don't forget to activate your ticket for the trains (as you enter the station) and the buses (when you climb on). The Metro also goes to the Airport.

Effaristo poly, Glaros! Hope we get to enjoy your Greek hospitality again some time!

Stayed one night at the Glaros in June 2012.Very convenient for ferries, most within 15/20 mins walk.Rooms average, some traffic noise, paid 45 euro but could have got better value in hotels nearby. The area around here has a few sex clubs and bars and ''streetwalkers''.Not a problem for us but maybe for others.Otherwise friendly and helpful staff and breakfast can be taken downstairs or on the street tables outside. O.k. but no big deal.

I phoned from the airport to ask if they had rooms as I knew there were no ferries until the next morning.Check in was quick and painless and the receptionist advised me where I could find a ticket office still open as it was 8pm.
Room was clean and comfortable, quite spacious, with TV and basic toiletries in the bathroom.
Didn't get to try breakfast as I checked out early.
This hotel is very convenient if your ferry is departing from gate E9 - within reasonable walking distance just down the hill if luggage is manageable.
I was going from E3 - the other side of the ferry terminal - so reception ordered me a taxi when I checked out.
Pleasant, clean & economical hotel which is convenient for overnights when connecting with flights and ferries.

A basic hotel a 5 minute cab ride from the port. We pre booked in the UK and our reservaation was fine. The cost was low so we had minimum expectations.
The first room we were offered was totally unaceptable, it had not been serviced after the previous guest. To say it was disgusting is an understatement, and makes me wonder how anyone could leave a room the way they did. We rejected the room and showed the housekeeper the problems. I have to say I felt sorry for them carrying out the clean up. The front desk was apologetic and gave us another room. This room was clean and tidy, although extreemly hot. The air con was noisy so it was a choice ,cool and noisy or hot and quieter. The quiet was relative becase the room overlooked the road which seemed busy most through the night.
We were catching an early ferry so the purpose was to at least be horizontal for a few hours, so on that basis it did the job but no more. Would never consider staying more than one night, but have no expectation to sleep
The staff were helpful and very pleasant to us.

I was desperately searching accommodation in Athens for a year prior to Olympics in 2004, and the Glaros was the only hotel (out of 100s) that I wrote to, which offered accommodation at a reasonable rate. Many hotels multiplied their rates exhorbitantly and I came close to cancelling the trip. The Glaros even gave us a special rate for staying 10 nights. At still inflated Olympic prices it was not really worth the money, but the alternatives were ridiculously priced and impossible to book.

It is in Piraeus, which is handy for the ferries to the islands, but not very good for restaurants and bars. It was only 15 mins walk across the port to the station, with cheap and easy connections to the city and the coast.

The hotel itself had a small bar cum breakfast room, just off the foyer. Breakfast itself was buffet style and well presented.

The bedroom was clean but basic but the bathroom was a little too basic with a hand held shower.

All the staff were lovely and made our stay a very happy one.

Transport is very cheap and easy in Athens and as a bed for the night, one could do far worse than the Glaros, especially if catching a ferry.
