“Quirky and well located”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2013

Located in a great postion to explore Athens by foot - close to the Acropolis Museum, the Acropolis itself, the Plaka area and many restaurants and cafes. Also a 20min tram ride from the beach. The hotel is quite small and is rather quirky in design/decor style. We were on the 4th floor in a modern black/white room (with four columns) but others we saw were quite different - one with walls festooned in pink cloth, another with a canopied bed and more subdued in style. Lift only to 3rd floor. Room fairly quiet, clean and comfortable. Breakfast offered some variety (sweet and savoury). Staff welcoming at front desk and quickly rectified a small issue we had.

Room Tip: If stairs a problem, request a room no higher than the third floor.

Stayed 2 nights there after coming back from Santorini to Athens. We were family of 3 (2 adults + 1 teen) and they gave us a family room, which was really spacious. There were 2 twin beds in the main room, and a loft with 2 single beds.
Being in the old part of the city, the building was an old one (probably under conservation rules) and hence some things may seem dated to city-slickers. But having travelled extensively, we appreciated the character of the place, and the effort they made to renovate the whole place recently showed.
Price of room included breakfast, which was really nice, so we didn't have to go looking for breakfast in the mornings or pay for expensive hotel breakfasts like in some other places.
Since it was our return trip, we have already seen a lot of Athens on the first leg, and the only thing left to see, believe it or not, was the Acropolis. That left us plenty of time to relax in the room which we did - and we all had our own corners and didn't have to get in each others' way.
The only minor two things that could have been better were: wifi - signals were intermittently lost, and aircon - the a/c unit seemed a little small for the room size.

We were lucky to stay at this hotel for 7 days. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. We had the most comfortable bed I have slept in at any hotel. Room was clean and well maintained and spacious, but then it was a delux room. Well positioned for the main attractions. Comfortable walking distance to Plaka and Acropolis. The receptionists are knowledgeable so ask for advice. A little noisy on the main road but did not detract from our great experience.

Okay for an Athens hotel in this price point, a good value! It is dated in it's styling and it's on the main street, so noisy. But it's within 2 blocks of the Acropolis Museum and Platka. So it is extremely convenient.

The Good:
1. The staff is incredibly helpful and polite! The day before we left, the desk person told us that the transit workers were doing a one day strike and that we'd have to catch a cab (early) to get to the airport. If she hadn't told us this, we would have never known until the morning.
2. The air conditioner!!! Much needed and worked great!
3. The overall price!

Needs Work:
1. The overall decor is dated and left the room and the entire hotel seemingly dark.
2. The shower, while full of pressure, was small and was the typical "old style" plastic hand held shower head on an pole.

Overall a very good and met expectoration.

Just checking out after two nights here. The hotel is very well run and Donnara and the rest of the staff are very attentive. The location is ideal and the staff will spend quality time explaining where to go and what to see. We also got excellent advice on where to eat. I had one of the single rooms which, though quite small, was very well decorated and in good condition. The atmosphere throughout was most pleasant. Just one word of advice as a matter of courtesy to other guests please avoid talking loudly on the coridoors or with room door open. A family opposite me kept doing this and it was most annoying!
While that could happen anywhere, courtesy is particularly important in a small hotel.
Anyway, a wonderful place to stay in a city I have fallen in love with.

I had high hopes for this "Boutique" hotel based on the TA reviews, however we were not impressed. I was expecting old world charm yet the hotel was just dingy and dirty. I understand they want to stay with an antique look, yet the overall impression is very dreary. The common area carpets were filthy, especially the stair runners. The breakfast area felt like a redone 1970s basement rec room...very tacky furniture and decor. Our room was small but satisfactory...but our bathroom was what really left a bad taste in my mouth. I didnt even want to use the shower as it was filthy with mildew. There was also some sort of dirty plastic hose just hanging from the ceiling. you can tell they have attempted to update some of the fixtures, yet it hasnt been done in a proper fashion. Toilet is sloppily plumbed into the wall, walls had been freshly painted but old air conditioning unit is grungy and dirty. The location was very good and we were able to walk to all the major sites and tourist areas. The front desk staff were very pleasant and helpful...the hotels best asset in my opinion. The breakfast was decent enough and as expected. Overall Im sad to say that I can not recommend this hotel based on our experience.

"Feel" of the hotel: This felt like home, so if you're looking for something less "clinical" like the usual run-of-the-mill hotel, this is it. The room we got was spacious. The hotel features old-fashioned, classic decor (think Chandeliers, warm lighting, a walk-up staircase (maybe not so good for super heavy luggage), brass furniture and fittings. Breakfast was home cooked each morning - which was nice and added to the homely feel. Breakfast consisted of cold cuts, potatoes, scrambled eggs, a variety of breads, sweet pastries, coffee/tea, fresh juice (they provide the machine, so it's DIY), and some Greek pastries with Feta Cheese inside. The only feedback I'll give here is, it'll be nice to have some variety from day to day, because we stayed for 4 nights and ate the same thing everyday, which was a bit boring.

Location and surroundings: A 7-10-minute walk to the Acropolis, and a 5-minute walk to the Acropolis Museum, so very convenient. There is a whole stretch of cafes, restaurants and shopping options (souvenirs and local products mainly) - The Promenade, as the locals term it, is in the same vicinity to the Acropolis Museum. We had coffee there only once, as we probably think it's over priced. Also, the restaurant staff were pretty aggressive with pushing their sales, so walk far away if you don't wish to run into consistent persuading.

Note: Do check out this area called "Plaka", which is near the Olympian Zeus temple i.e. perhaps 10 minutes walk from the hotel. The area is nice for eating and shopping for local products. Keep your ticket from The Acropolis for free entry to Olympian Zeus temple - doesn't matter if the ticket was from another day. They still accepted it.

The immediate neighbourhood has some convenience stores which we got our daily supplies from.

Staff: The front desk staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. Ask them anything, and they'll be able to tell you!

Price: We got a special offer on the price so for us, it was value-for money.

Getting around: We got around the city using the City Hop-on-hop off sightseeing bus. It's the best and most convenient way to get to know the city as it covers the most important sights and provides you some sort of transportation convenience should you wish to explore on your own. The ticket is valid for 2 days.
