“Modern hotel, superb staff!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2012

Eventhough it does not have the best location in Athens, it is a great modern, fun (with lots of bright colours, lights and furnishings) four star hotel with exceptional staff. My room was spacious, nicely furnished with a flat TV screen, a nice writing desk with excellent free WIFI. The corridors are spacious and the elevator with see through doors a first for me in a hotel. The buffet breakfast was of excellent quality- I loved the savoury crepes and the scrambled eggs ; the variety of breakfast breads offered was impressive. The view of the lit Acropolis from the top level bar/lounge of the hotel (which also has an open air pool) was exquisite; it would be great in the summer sitting outside and enjoying the sun set. A great value!

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room at the back.of the hotel.

This is a hotel that really tries. Good, quirky furnishings (just take a look at the lift.....); modern approach; great bar with a fantastic view of Athens and the Acropolis (with a small swimming pool). The staff are really friendly - especially Anna in the 8th floor bar, the breakfast is great, and the prices are very attractive (£100 for 2 nights). It's also very near a metro (Metaxourghio on the Red Line), and is quite close to Plaka and the Acropolis - although probably a bit too far to walk. OK, the area's not great - it's certainly not a "tourist area", but the hotel makes up for that, public transport is good and cheap, as are taxis.

The hotel is not in the nicest area- but I never did discover an area of Athens that was 'nice'. The hotel is very secure, the room was clean, and the staff were very helpful with advice and how to get around town. My safe started to malfunction and beep at 1am (keeping me awake) and when I called reception they came up immediately to fix it. The rooftop bar has an amazing view of the acropolis and a lovely swimming pool, the tapas are delicious, but unfortunately the bar staff have no idea how to make a cocktail (got a mojito, margarita and daquiri and they were all terribly made). Rooms were quite large, and had good air conditioning. Breakfast was a large continental style. Free internet was also available.

Novus hotel is a pretty decent 4* hotel...very clean, central, metro station just opposite, big rooms ,nice and of good quality breakfast, wifi working perfectly. One of the best -designed elevator i have ever seen in a hotel. i would recomend it for sure. However, try to avoid front street rooms it could be really noisy...generally it is a busy hotel...

This hotel is only a few minutes walk from the metro station so getting here from the airport was not a problem. This was reasonably priced - hotel room was clean and modern. Beds were standard (weren't plush but were comfortable). I didn't like the frosted glass door to the ensuite bathroom as you don't feel like you have much privacy whilst using it.

The rooftop was probably my favourite as you get to sit under the stars eating breakfast and dinner - overlooking the Acropolis is also a big bonus!

They also have a rooftop pool which looked lovely which we didn't use, although you wouldn't want to use it whilst people are out having their meals. Pool was in extremely close proximity to the dining tables!

This hotel provided excellent value for money as we managed to get a deal for 189 EUR for 4 nights on booking.com.
It's very close to Metaxourghio metro station which in turn is very close to the centre and on the same line as the staitons for Syntagma Square and Acropolis.
Staff were fantastic. Very friendly and helpful. We had initially booked a standard room but they kindly upgraded us to the deluxe room on arrival.
We had originally asked for a room on a high floor so this worked out great as our room was on the 7th floor. So no rooms were above us (just the pool and bar!).
Make sure you get a room that faces the back of the hotel regardless of if it's standard or deluxe though. It is on a very busy street with lots of cars, buses, and noisy mopeds. I could hear the street noise slightly even from our room which faced the back.
The bed was very large in the deluxe room but was too hard for me, although my boyfriend thought it was great.
Breakfast was tasty with excellent variety as well.
I marked it down one star because of the neighbourhood. If you take the wrong street in order to walk to the main sights, you could encounter junkies shooting up (which is what happened to us). Avoid using Deligiorgi Street which is behind the hotel (where we saw the junkies). It looked like a direct route to the restaurant we we wanted to try but it made us feel so uncomfortable that we decided to take a different street on the way back to the hotel. Taking a different street seemed to be a bit better.
In short. Take the metro as this felt quite safe and was clean.
With regards to safety, this part of Athens is hit and miss. Some streets are totally safe but turn the wrong way and it looks quite menacing. The Athenians are going through a lot so I don't want people to avoid going there. They need the tourism dollar so just keep your wits about you and take public transport or cabs.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor facing the back of the hotel

A great base to explore Athens, 100m from the nearest Metro station called Metaxourghio, which is 3 stops from the city centre Metro (Syntagma Square) and 4 stops from the Acropolis Metro station. Travelling from the Airport it will take about 40 mins, including 1 change at Syntagma, before arriving at Metaxourghio. Very friendly staff in all departments of the hotel from reception, breakfast staff and housekeeping. Rooms are very clean if not simple and the standard rooms could be classed by some people as compact, but certainly not small. The area used to have a bad name, however not any more, we never fealt anything that would keep us from returning and with the Metro so close you've not far to walk. The Wi-Fi was good, but could be better, it was fine on laptops, but slower on Apple devices. You have a safe in your room, air conditioning and a small lat screen tv, the bathroom was clean and compact too. The breakfast was excellant and really set you up for the day, running between 7 - 10:30am daily. We stayed in a standard twin room for 6 nights, if returning to Athens we would not hesitate to book again. We booked directly with the hotel via phone and email.
