“Great Place to Stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2012

Novus City Hotel is like a hidden gem in Athens. It is so close to the metro that it makes it convienent to get any where in and out of the city (ferry ports or airport). The hotel is trendy and CLEAN. The rooftop has to be the best part of the hotel. Great view of the Acropolis and great rooftop pool (which is necessary with the temps in Athens). Also a hearty -free- breakfast was included in our stay.

Even though I booked for 2 nights, online 6 months earlier, when we arrived, we were told that we were being sent to another hotel, for the first night. Very disappointed - The whole point of staying 2 nights in one place is so you have a full day for sight seeing in the middle and don't have the pack/unpack, check in/checkout performance. The reception staff were very apologetic, and offered us a free taxi transfer to and from Hotel Meliai, and a free dinner on our second night (this was not off the menu, which I expected, but a very ordinary chicken and veg dinner, with ice cream desert). It actually worked out OK, because we thought The Melia was a very superior hotel, we had a wonderful room with spa bath, and it cost 20 Euro less per night including a very nice breakfast buffet. We took a taxi back to Novus City and they stored our luggage untilwe rechecked in later that afternoon. Breakfast at the Novus City was very average, the common areas of the hotel reminded me a bit of a modern backpackers. They obviously cater for package groups of young people. The roof pool was very nice, small but unluckily dominated by loud youngsters when we wanted a relaxing sunbathe, before leaving to catch an afternoon flight on day of departure. Over all, loved Athens but would have liked 2 nights a the Melia!

From the arrival throughout the entire 5 day stay of ours was simply superb. Staff were so warm and welcoming that we felt downright pampered. Special thanks to Anna of the rooftop bar!!! Never mind the run-down adjacent areas, it's safer than you think. And the more interesting neighborhoods are only minutes away either by cheap taxi or by metro from Metaxourgio station some 150 meters from the doorstep. Rooms are contemporary and very clean, and they are equipped with individually adjustable air-condition and a fridge, both vitally important during summer time. Highly recommended!

I recently stayed at the Novus Hotel in Athens and was pleasantly surprised! The Hotel was included as part of a tour my friends and I were doing. We were very impressed with all aspects of the hotel - trendy decor, incredibly hospitable staff, central location, rooftop bar and pool with amazing views of the city and the Acropolis, great breakfast set up, free wifi, etc. The hotel had everything we needed!

Room Tip: Able to provide 'triple' rooms, if needed.

Had 2 stays here (one of 2 nights and then just 1 night) as part of our Topdeck tour. We caught the X95 bus from the airport upon recommendation of the tour company to Syntagma Square and then the red line metro to the hotel. Took us a bit to find the hotel as the directions provided were not overly clear. We found some incredibly helpful locals that asked around until someone knew exactly where it was and showed us where we had to go.

First Impression - very modern and the air conditioned lobby was definitely nice after running around in the heat outside. Staff were lovely and checked us in promptly and advised us of our tour meeting that evening. That gave us a quick rundown of the hotel.

The room was quite basic - however the second room we stayed in was quite nice and very colourful. The bathroom was tiny in our first room (no benchspace!) but in the second was much larger, so the rooms definitely differ depending on which side of the building you are on. The bed was very comfortable, although we went to sleep with the aircon on quite low (18 degrees) the first night and woke up freezing as there is nothing more than a light blanket. Lesson learnt!

The Rooftop pool and bar was fantastic. I did not expect this of a city hotel, but really enjoyed it. Especially after a long hot day of sightseeing around Athens, it is lovely to come back in the afternoon, have a swim and a drink and relax a bit before heading out for the evening. It is only a small pool, but it was not very busy and the views were great. The drinks were good as well. Certainly not the cheapest you would get but it's a hotel - you are paying for the convenience. The staff in the rooftop bar were great and were always ensuring we had drinks and anything else we wanted/needed.

Great breakfast each morning - lots to choose from, and a toaster which is always nice as some European hotels do not have this! Free wifi and fast! Although you need to get a code every 12 hours - this was a bit annoying but it's free so I won't complain. Also staff did not care how many codes they gave you - this was handy for us as we had a few different devices that we were using.

We never used taxis to and from the hotel, as we were part of the group, we used the metro. Do not be daunted by this - it is really really straight forward, very fast and the easiest way to get around Athens. Once we knew how to get to and from the metro from the hotel this was definitely convenient.

I would happily recommend this to anyone looking for somewhere to stay in Athens. It's not right in the centre, but so easy to get around, that this did not bother us at all. We would stay here if we returned to Athens.
