“Great value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2013

We had a quadruple room. It was tiny but serviceable and clean. Everything worked (shower, air-con, wifi) except the TV, but it could be that we didn't understand how to work it, but we didn't need it. The location is its selling point - close to all the sights, the metro station and taxis can be easily hailed outside. The cheapest hotel in our month-long Europe trip. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We went to Santorini from there, and were able to leave some luggage. When we returned, we were even allowed early checkin as a family was checking out early that morning.

Room Tip: There's no lift, so if you don't fancy heaving suitcases up to the upper floors, request a r...

The service was good and very helpful
The room was small but very clean and served my purposes
The main thing about this hotel is that it is lacerated close to most of the attractions in Athens. On the other hand the lack of elevators made my life slightly difficult taking my baggages to the 3rd floor.

This hotel is in an interesting area - not the real 'touristy' area but one where locals work and go about their business. The meat market next door is well worth a visit! We were able to comfortably walk to all the things that people want to see and do while in Athens - the National Archaeological Museum, the Acropolis, Filopappou Hill, Lykavitos Hill, Syndagma Square etc. The hotel was very clean, and the owners are welcoming, friendly and helpful.

I would go back here in a heartbeat and I would recommend it to friends. Very friendly owners, easy short walk to city Centre and most attractions. My room was unbelievably clean. I had a private one and the wifi worked in my room. It's not a party hostel, as there's no in house bar or breakfast. But you don't need that since you'll be surrounded by the countless cafes and restos in the area.

Stayed here for three nights as a lone traveller in May 2013 and was very pleased. The hotel was very clean and the shower, bed etc. were all good. It is a simple hotel, but well kept and with friendly staff. I will certainly stay there again next time I'm in Athens. Great value.

Some people have commented on the area the hotel is in. Now, I used to live in Athens and am familiar with the city. The hotel is located in the centre of town and yes, there can be some strange people about, especially at night. Walk 50 metres and you are right in the centre of the vibrant quite touristy area of Psirri with lots of bars, tavernas, clubs and other fun stuff; walk 100 metres in the other direction and you end up in some "bad" areas where I wouldn't recommend walking alone at night. The street the hotel itself is on has lots of shops (flowers and such) and is in no way a "bad" place. The thing is it is like this in almost any large city centre in the world. Just use common sense, walk to the hotel from the metro station along Athinas street and you will be fine - remember, Athens is generally a VERY safe city. It might be a bit "loud" and people tend to shout more, but that is Greece!

When you stay here make sure you that when you get up one morning you walk through the meat/butcher's market just round the corner - it's an experience! and will teach you alot about Greece.

We had a wonderful stay here for two nights in early May of 2013. The staff was kind and welcoming. The hotel is well situated, in fairly close walking distance to all of the sites and fun neighborhoods of Athens. We felt safe walking in the area even at night. The rooms are small and very simple, but they are clean and perfectly adequate for the budget traveler.

The Athinaikon Hotel is a great place to stay. It is clean and comfortable. The family and staff who run it are very nice people. It was always a pleasure to see them, when going out each morning to explore Athens, and returning each afternoon. The hotel is located in the market area, which is full of life in the day, and quiet at night. The hotel probably has the best location of any hotels in Athens - it is halfway between the National Archaeological Museum and the Acropolis/Acropolis Museum, making it easy to walk to the major sites. I have stayed at the Athinaikon a few times and look forward to staying again. I recommend the Athinaikon Hotel.
