“Great Location, Great Price!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2014

Though an older building, the hotel is scrupulously maintained by a courteous and friendly staff. Location is great -- center of Athens, directly across the street from the Metropolitan church, easy walk down the Ermou to Monastiraki Square, with Syntagma Square, Omonia Square, the Plaka and all of the historic sites such as the Acropolis.

My friends and I found this hotel by chance because we had just arrived in Athens and found our original hotel to have split us (we were a group of three) into two separate rooms. Hotel Metropolis as one of the hotels we called, but the lovely guy on night duty, Inder, told us about the availability and promised us that if we did not like the hotel, he would help us find another. The hotel itself is in a great location, and slightly away from too much noise. The only night it was really noisy was when there was a World Cup game in with Greece playing. We got a top floor room (as it is a three bed room) with a balcony and a great view. The room was clean, and they changed our towels daily. The bathroom was clean as well, and provided with basic amenities. Rooms are equipped with WiFi and air conditioning. The night duty receptionist, Inder was extremely helpful on both nights (helped us order delivery because we were exhausted!) and he was generally always on hand to help, joke and chat with us. He made the stay a lot more pleasant and memorable. Can't say much to the day duty receptionist ho wasn't so friendly/helpful. Overall, great place and location, a very basic hotel but gives you the feeling of luxury.

My husband and I stayed at Hotel Metropolis for three nights when visiting Athens for business. The rooms are small, but they are clean and neat. The water in the shower was hot. Ours had a side balcony that allowed us to see the Mitropoleos Cathedral across the street. It was a beautiful view. Breakfast was not included in our room rate, so I can't speak about it. We would definitely stay there again, since the hotel was clean, the staff was very friendly, and the room rate was VERY reasonable for that area. We were in walking distance to many things. A warning, however, to those who are sensitive to noise. The hotel is across the street from the cathedral, which means every HALF HOUR the cathedral bells ring. We loved it, but I can see how others might find it very invasive. Our room on the side street sat above a coffee shop that had people talking, laughing, etc until all hours of the night. (This is Greece, folks! -- people stay up late!) -- Again, my husband and I were accustomed to that kind of noise and activity, but others might find it too noisy. (Ask for a rear facing room to avoid this.) I will keep this hotel on my inquiry list for future trips to Athens. It's worth it!

Room Tip: If noise is a problem don't get a front-facing room! (They have beautiful bougainvillea but they...

We stayed in this hotel for one night. The room is beautiful, but very small. The bathroom also is very small. But we were just here to sleep, so it was fine. The bed was very comfortable. The hotel is in a great location. It was a very easy walk with our luggage from the Monastiraki metro station. And it is is just a short walk up to Syntagma Square as well. They have a roof top deck that you are welcome to go up use. Very nice at the end of an evening of walking around. This is also where they serve breakfast in the morning. Breakfast was 5 euro, but it was worth it for the view and the ease of not having to wander around trying to decide where to eat.

This hotel is in an excellent location just near The Plaka and within easy walking distance of The Acropolis. The bedrooms are comfortable and the staff/owners super friendly and helpful.

A fridge in the bedroom would have been nice.

I would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: One at the front with a balcony.

This hotel is a budget hotel and has been updated. It is in a good location in Mitropelous St which runs down from Syntagma Square towards Montasariki. However there is quite a bit of competition. This hotel does not have a fridge in the room or safe. We stayed in an extremely small room at the back. Breakfast is available for 5 euro. To be fair other rooms which had balcony had views towards the Acropolis. You get what you pay for.

Room Tip: Get a room with a bacony or stay eleswhere.

This hotel is situated just bestide the cathedral (Metropolis), between Zyntagma square and the historic quarters of Placa. Metro at Zyntagma and Monasteraki within walking distance. You also have quite a few of the main sights of Athens within walking distance. The hotel is small and very nice and the staff was helpful. Rooms are good, clean and well equipped. We had a room on the corner with quite a large balcony and a nice view of the cathedral. There are no lobby or bar in the hotel, but they serve breakfast on a roof terrace. I must say it was a nice experience having breakfast on the terrace with a magnificent view of the Metroplolis cupola and with the upper parts of Placa and the Acropolis towering just behind it. The area is quite nice, with a lot of cafees, tavernas and bars just "on your doorstep" so to speak. We still felt quite safe, even on returning a bit late at night. The breakfast is set, and you only have a choice of coffee or tea, so if you are staying for some time, you might want to check out other places. But you have to have at least one breakfast and enjoy the view of the cupola and the Acropolis. Anyway, the breakfast was good (sandwich, toast, greek youghurt with fruit, juice and coffe or tea). A pleasant stay, nice hotel, good location and all at a reasonable price.

Room Tip: Staying close to the cathedral means you have to consider the noise from the church bells. If you wa...
