I used Athens Backpackers as my central hostel on a month trip to Greece as a solo female. I stayed 4 days at the start of my trip, went to the Islands for 10 days, came back for another 2 days ( did a day trip to Delphi) and then after going to the Peloponnese and Crete came back for one more night.

The staff is friendly and accomodation and the location is truly unbeatlable for the price. I felt very comfortable at this hostel and it was a lot of fun. I watched movies, used the internet, could travel to all the hot spots in the city. The staff was patient giving me directions all over Athens.

I am returning to Greece this October 2006 and plan to stay at Athens Backpackers again.

This hostel was pretty bad. I chose it based on the great online reviews but was severly disappointed. The staff was highly unprofessional, and it seemed at times that if you weren't (as a girl) flirty with the male staff that you wouldn't get proper service.

Additionally, I thought it was extremely dirty and had to ask more than once for our room to be cleaned. One of the staff members admitted to me that they don't always clean the blankets because it "would be too expensive and wasteful of water." YUCK!!! The sinks were clogged, the showers would leave a an inch of water on the floor, and the list goes on and on!! At one point a staff member even told me to get online and give them great reviews. Beware travelers!! This place isn't that great. Only thing in their favor is that it was in a great location.

I would highly reccommend the Athens Backpackers as a friendly happy place to stay for people on a budget in Athens. Not to be missed and definitely the best Hostel I've stayed in in Greece.

Good staff, comfy mattresses, linen and breakfast included, and a fantastic roof terrace bar which wont keep you awake in your room. Easy to find from the metro and very close to the acropolis and centre.

I will be back!

My partner and I, both in our mid-twenties, stayed at Backpackers for one night between returning from the islands and flying back to England. If you are looking for reasonably clean, inexpensive hostel-style accomodation with a great vibe, this is for you. The staff and guests were young, friendly, easygoing. We stayed in a mixed dorm (with 6 beds) although my boyfriend was the only male in our dorm (lucky him?). It was actually very quiet and I think most people were travellers on their way to or from the islands. The best thing about Backpackers is the location, 1 mins walk from Acropoli metro and just next to the Acropolis and Plaka (old town Athens - the only area of Athens where you forget you're in a huge, smelly city - lots of little streets and tavernas). Also, there is an enchanting rooftop bar serving cheap drinks, with an unbeatable view of the Acropolis. Overall, great value, great location and decent accomodation.
