I stayed for one night in September 2006. I paid Euro 26 per night, which was the internet rate which I booked online.
The backpackers is in a very central location in Plaka close to the main shopping and restaurant area, and close to the Acropolis as well.
The reception staff are very warm and helpful and welcome all travellers with a smile and approachable manner. They are more than welcome to answer any questions.
The room was one of the cleanest I have every stayed in at a backpackers with large lockers to store your bags and the bunk beds are generously wide apart. I slept in a 6 person room. Unfortunately because I was last to arrive I had the top bunk in the middle of the room directly under the airconditioner. I froze all night with the cold breeze from the aircon and I stayed awake most of the night because of the aircon noise too.
Nevertheless, if you had slept in another bed, away from the aircon then you would get a good night sleep. The shared bathroom was clean and large, although there is never any bench top to place your clean clothes while changing in the bathroom. I haven't come across a backpackers that has this yet.
All in all, I would recommend the backpackers as a clean and cheap option in Athens.
