“Compact & Wonderful -- Great staff, Amazing Roof Garden”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2011

My husband and I truly enjoyed our stay at the Central Hotel. While the room was small, it was very efficient -- some very smart designers figured out how to get so much in so little space without feeling cramped. And, it was very clean. But, the real gem here is the rooftop bar. The Acropolis looks so close you could touch it. We started or ended every evening there as it was so pleasant and captivating. Breakfast was also plentiful and everyone we met working from front desk to rooftop bartenders were friendly. I'll go back here when I go back to Athens.

My husband and I stayed at the Central Athens Hotel during an 8 week European trip in 2010 and fell in LOVE with both Athens and this hotel!!
We arrived into Athens airport at around 2PM and caught the X95 Athens Airport Express Bus to Syntagma Square. It cost about 3,20 EURO per person and we were in Syntagma Square within 30-45 minutes! PERFECT!!!
From Syntagma Square, we walked to the hotel with all our luggage. (Not the easiest thing due to the stone paved sidewalks, but we got there!!)
The staff weren't too friendly or helpful as they could see us struggling with our bags and didn't once offer to help. Check in was okay, but once again, the staff member was not very welcoming or warm. Perhaps staff need a bit more work on that aspect.
Anyway, that didn't really bother us too much as we were there to explore Athens, not to make friends. We got to our room and found it very clean and tidy. The decor was fresh and minimal. The shower was nice and clean and it had the BEST water pressure out of all the hotels we stayed in! Our room had a little balcony which overlooked the street below which was a nice touch.
We then proceeded to the rooftop. WOW! WOW! WOW! The hotel has the BEST view of the Acropolis! Even the hotels nearby couldn't compete with our hotel's view! It was definitely a highlight for us and stunning to look at for hours on end. Especially of a night time when it's all lit up and glowing in the sky. Absolutely STUNNING!
Also, the location is perfect for the traveler. You can walk to nearly all the sights. We walked to Syntagma Square (1-2mins), Plaka (Excellent!!! Fantastic restaurants and souvenirs!! 10-15mins), the Acropolis (yes, we walked there! took about 30 mins) and the Roman Agora! ALL within WALKING DISTANCE!
In regards to WIFI, we just walked to McDonald's in Syntagma Square and used it for free there. Not a major issue for us, but I do agree with some of the other reviewers that the hotel should have FREE WIFI if they would like to stay competitive.
Overall, my husband and I have very fond memories of Athens and this hotel, especially for it's amazing view of the Acropolis and the walking distance from PLAKA! We would return here without hesitation 100%!!!

Some bulletpoints:

Location: Central Hotel has a good location, a short walk from Syntagma and Monastiraki Squares. Lots of non-Greek restaurants in the area; sushi, Indian, Chinesse, noodles, etc. This will be important if you've been to the islands for 10 days and the only option has been Greek food thus far (which I love, but variety is, indeed, the spice of life).

Wifi: aweful, come on, it's 2011, no wifi? We had friends in a much lesser hotel and they had nice, strong wifi. This is a real 2011 shame. You can walk to the McDonald's a few blocks away though to stay connected or organize your travel options for the day.

Breakfast: Nice. Eggs, toast, fruit, yogurt and...hot dogs, which is a norm for breakfast as odd as that seemed to me. They were good though! :)

Beds: Hard, but if you like that, then you're good.

A/C: The A/C is in the hallway so when you get back to the room and put your key in the energy slot it'll take hours to cool the room...but here's a trick...ANY type card can be put in the energy slot to keep it running all day! We would let the maid come and then we'd go back in and put a credit card in there to keep the room cool. However, with the warm days in the summer and the A/C being in the hallway it did still take a bit to cool down. By the time you fell asleep though it was fine.

Room Size: Average, a bit small.

Roof Top: Very nice, the view is great. We sat up there on two different nights and really enjoyed the cool evening, the drinks (we snuck up some vodka one night with no issues) and the company.

Bathroom: I've saved the best for last...the bathroom in itself is fine, small, but fine. However, there is absolutely NO privacy...NONE. There is a frosted window that seperates the bathroom from the bedroom, so if you look closely you can see what the person is doing in the bathroom. PLUS, the door to the bathroom is only a swinging door that doesn't come to the floor or celing, so if you're making any noises in there (if ya know what I mean) I hope you're sharing the room with someone you don't mind hearing you at your worst!

So, would I stay here again? Nope. Wifi is important to us as travelers...all those, "what time does it open, where exactly is it, how much does it cost" can't be answered and without that access you are simply behind the 8-ball. Plus, that bathroom! Lordy!

Room Tip: Not sure if there is one room better then another.

This is the perfect little hotel in Attica, Athens. It is clean and modern, the staff are friendly and helpful, and it PERFECTLY located!!!
But the best thing about this hotel is definitely the roof area. It has million dollar views of the Acropolis. The view from the roof is to die for!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Do not stay at the Hermes hotel next door as it is the same price, the rooms aren't as nice and it has no view of the Acropolis cause the Central Hotel blocks it.
I would definitely go back to this hotel when returning to Athens.

Stayed here for a couple of nights and the location was very good. Central and 5-10mins walk from two metro stops.
The hotel was very clean and looked very new. The breakfast wasn't bad but there were a couple of receptionists who could have been more pleasant and friendly.
Wi-fi costs €1 for 15mins (in reality more like 12mins.)
There is a mcdonalds nearby with free wifi though.

Highlight is the view of the Acropolis from the roof terrace at night. A sight to behold!

The location and service at this hotel were very good. The public areas were clean and nice. The terrace view of the Acropolis is amazing and there is a rooftop bar. All in all, the location and setting are great. In addition, they provided a lovely breakfast with many choices.

However, the rooms were less that desirable - stained carpet, AC that really didn't work, paper thin walls and outdated showers. It really is too bad that the rooms are in such bad shape because the rest of the experience was very good.

Nice staff, good location in the middle Plaka, superbe roof bar with great view on Acropolis.
Very small room, we paid an extra to be at the last floor with Acropolis view. Got the view, when you stick your head out of the window...
The complimentary wine is disgusting.
