“Worth every cent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2014

I have been staying at this hotel for 3 nights early January 2014.
It has been an amazing experience.
Although the location is arguably a bit run down and daunting at first (expect cramped streets, graffiti and some garbage), it is only a couple minutes away from Monastiraki, at the edge of Psirri right next to the Athinas st.
A place that is chock-full on shops and only a couple of minutes away from other points of interest.

The moment I arrived I was presented with an excellent service by the receptionist who swiftly informed me that the metro station I was departing from has contacted them that I have lost my documents there.
The rest of the staff (both the receptionists and the housekeeper who I have met during my stay) was just as friendly and welcoming, to the point I feel shameful for never finding out their names.
I had to print out some more essential documents later during the stay with the receptionist helping in the matter immediately.

The rooms are clean and large, might have been the luck on my side for getting a really big, sunlit room on one of the highest floors with a view towards the acropolis.
The hotel, although not very convincing from outside is a beautiful piece of lite minimalist style inside.
The wi-fi worked perfectly even up there, not just in the lobby as advertised. The room service was great, the pleasant housekeeper constantly kept supplying me with tons of towels shampoos and soaps.
There were mirrors everywhere, with a large one in front of one of the beds, a smaller horizontal one in front of the other one and an extra large one in the bathroom.
The bathroom was spacious and clean, the one in my room contained a bath tub with a glass panel for shower corner attached.
It felt like heaven taking hot baths there for up to three times a day !
The room was furnished with a closet, end tables, a bigger table, a sizable lcd tv, a safe and a fridge.
Though arguably the room was big enough for a coffee table and two extra chairs to fit in front of the huge window pane.

The only complaint I would have about my stay is the temple right in front of the hotel which plays a peculiar tune every couple of minutes early morning starting at like 7:15 am and will interfere with your sleep shall you want to sleep longer after a tiring travel.
Second complaint of mine was the AC that is stuck at 27 degrees c which felt unacceptably hot for somebody used to a 18c room temperature.

However these issues are nothing to take away from my final rating, especially considering the price (which was even on a last minute offer when I booked) is a complete steal for the greatness the place offers.

Room Tip: If possible ask for a room in front on any of the higher floors, with a magnificent view at the acro...

Stayed here for two nights. Very clean and very local. The restaurant on the corner as you walked towards the agora was outstanding. In short, the rooms were small but clean. The best part of this hotel is the view. It is simply outstanding...especially at night with the acropolis is lit up.

My friend and I stayed here for 4 nights in November and were aware that the area was somewhat dodgy. This hotel is by many little streets which can make it easy to become lost in and so we would taxi back from Monastiraki (yes it's very close but when you're two 18 year old girls, sometimes it's better to be safe than sorry) most of the nights. So yes the area can be a bit scary but if you're aware it's okay.

The hotel itself is pretty good, the staff are kind and helpful. We were situated on the second floor and as many have mentioned, the higher you are the better possibility of having a good view. Ours was awful and we were unable to change the AC settings so would have to open our window which then left our room with a weird smell. The hallway also smells like smoke. The bathroom was great except that you had to be careful not to flood the floor with the shower hose since the barrier in the shower is very short. Breakfast is okay, I wouldn't eat the bread or "cakes" they have as they are always stale but the muesli and yoghurt were good.

Our room was just a double with a bathroom and it was fine since we only slept there, nothing more. The TV didn't seem to work when we came back early one night but not a big issue. Beds are okay, not the worst I've had but not overly great either.

Overall we paid for what we got I guess, pretty good location despite the actual area and if you don't intend to stay here for more than sleeping then it's alright.

Room Tip: The higher you are the better the view!

Positive:
Clean, great beds, staff is friendly and helpful. We had everything we requested without any troubles. Wi-fi worked perfectly for us, which is definitely a plus. Even at the garden roof, we had a full signal.
The location, even though the neighbourhood is as seedy as everybody here say, is very convenient. It's very close to everything, and it's not really a scary place at all.
Negative:
The hotel is located at the centre of Athens. "Soundproof" does not really apply to them if your room is located at the back of the hotel, facing the well-yard. The hotel is connected to some flats, and every morning we had some neighbour children making a lot of noise so we had to wake up with them. When I say morning, that's around 5-6 A.M.
Every time we left our window open, we had lots of mosquitoes and nothing to counter that. We couldn't use AC rather than opening the window because the AC is LOCKED on the temperature they consider ideal. So even if you ask the staff to unlock it just for airflow, you won't get it. It was really annoying since we had to suffer the mosquitoes in order to keep air fresh in our room.
Last, the roof garden has the best view and it's really relaxing but you can't stay there during rainy days or during too much sun since it has no roof or shade to protect you.

Room Tip: The best rooms that are shown on pictures, there are probably only 3 of them because they are at the...

Visited Athens and stayed in Hotel Arion for 4 nights. Amazing view of the Acropolis Hill from our hotel window. Good connection of Wifi available in our hotel room and separate wifi available around the breakfast room and reception areas. Not very clear TV reception in our room, we had to adjust the aerial a few time to get the best reception. Worth checking out the roof top terrace for great view of the Acropolis Hill.

Hotel location is around 3 mins walk from Monastiraki metro station. The hotel is located in side an alley way opposite a small church. Don't get put off by the street art and graffiti in the neighborhood, the locals are friendly and we felt safe walking around in the evening.
Hotel is also located just 1-2 mins from the central market and street which sells spices and herbs. I would recommend to visit the central market for a glimpse of Greek cultural and how much they appreciate their fresh food, spices and herbs! There are eateries around the corner and attraction sites are within 15 mins walks away.

Very helpful and friendly hotel staff at reception. There is a variety of selection for breakfast.

Before our stay, we did not realize how convenient the situation of Arion Athens Hotel was. We discovered day after day that almost everything could be reached by walking, which is very interesting to discover the different areas of the town.
The hotel itself was very good value even if the breakfast was always the same. Its is also well situated for bars and restaurants.
The staff was very nice, smily and helpful.
In our first room on the 3rd floor, it was impossible to get the Internet. But it was OK if we stayed in the corridor. On the 6th floor, we could have Internet in the room.

Room Tip: Room 605 : Acropolis view+ terrace

We stayed 2nd time in this hotel with my wife for a weekend on a business trip. Overall nice hotel located in the heart of the city 3 min walk from the metro station Monastiraki. The downsides were some problems in W.C. (not enough room to place our staff, the glass screen of the bath was not water-proof), the T.V. which had no Greek channels (!) -we asked to have it replaced but they never did- and the public P.C. was out of order. We had no Acropolis view but the view of run-down neighbourhood and the breakfast was only basic. However, given the money we paid it was very good value -especially as we were given an early check-in service. Recommended if you want to visit the city and not spend a lot of time in the hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for front (Acropolis) view
