AVA is in the most perfect location for exploring Plaka. You walk out the front door and everything you need and want to see is within easy walking distance. The rooms are modern, spacious and very clean. The views are also great. The staff are very friendly and most helpful. We would stay here again next time we visit Athens without hesitation.

My one tip is to get a taxi straight from the airport, do not muck around with the train as the cost is almost the same, its a real hassle trying to get a taxi from the train station to the hotel, no one would take us as it was too short of a trip, but it was 38 deg and we had two suitcases and a wedding dress - not much fun walking...

  • Liked — Location and very modern and clean

  • Tips/Secrets: — Get a taxi from the airport straight to the hotel - much easier than the train

AVA Hotel is in a great location to see all the sights such as the Acropolis, Temple of Zeus and the Ancient Agora. We stayed in room 301 and had a wonderful view of both the Acropolis and the Temple of Zeus from our spacious balcony.

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We checked in at 2AM and left at 3AM during our stay and they had someone waiting for us each time and also booked our taxi for us.

The room was great - having a kitchen was a great way to save money on some meals and was quite spacious. Breakfast is included and offers a great choice of food inc. cereal, breads, eggs, sausages, coffee, tea and cakes.

They also book tours from local tour operators for you which is a nice convenience. We booked two tours through them and had great service.

I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to see the tourist attractions on foot and likes to be on a quiet side street away from the hustle and bustle of this busy city. Shopping and restarants are barely moments away at the top of the street.

By European standards, the room was huge. Plenty of hot water from the roomy (by European standards) shower. Staff were friendly and helpful. I could see the back side of the Acropolis from my balcony. From here, we walked to most of the important sites. Not cheap, but worth it if you are in Athens for a short time as we were. We wasted no time getting to & from sites. Lots of nearby restaurants.

  • Liked — Great roomy bathroom
  • Disliked — street noise at night
  • Tips/Secrets: — Not low priced, but worh it in time and aggravation saved.

My family and I stayed at the AVA for five days over end-October and early November. Yes, it is true that it is near the Plaka and all in the other reviews but what bothered me was that I booked a suite in the hotel also because it claimed to have a view of the Acropolis. Well, it does--provided you walk out to the balcony. It reminds me of a condo I looked at once in which the agent said there is a pool view. Turns out I had to stick my neck out and turn it 90 degrees.

Some downsides--laundry was not available on Sunday (but this seems to be a common inconvenience in Europe), the internet winked in and out, the only lift was polished with a foul-smelling solution.

My problem may be that this was rated #1 on TripAdvisor and so my expectations were raised. It probably deserves to be in the top 10 but I strongly doubt it deserves to be #1.

This hotel is a gem! When we arrived we were so delighted to find it was on a quiet street in the Plaka area, with views of the Accropolis. Inside, the hotel did not disappoint either - an extremely friendly welcome, and one of the most comfortable and attractive hotels we have ever stayed in. Our room was one of the smaller appartment rooms, but was spacious enough, well appointed, and lots of thoughtfull extras. Breakfast was a delight! We only wished we were staying longer. Location could not be better - just beside the historic Plaka area with its great selection of restaurants, tavernas, and lovely shops, and close to all the main sites. If ever back in Athens, this will definitely be our first choice. Certainly not the cheapest, but well worth it!

  • Liked — Everything!
  • Disliked — Maybe a little bit pricey, but worth it!
