“Great hotel in bad neighbourhood”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2012

Hotel is fantastic, not a bad word to say about it. Staff are really friendly. Rooms are lovely - especially the shower with massaging water jets. Roof top pool is very relaxing with great views of the Acropolis.
Only bad part is the area its in, very dirty and worn down part of town. Close to metro station though and decent train service to better parts of Athens.

This hotel enjoys a central location and from the roof you have a view of the acropolis. On this roof is also the pool and a fine restaurant. The rooms are small but very nice and clean. A real winner!

We stayed here in September 2012 for 5 nights. The hotel itself is very nice with a fantastic roof top pool with views to the Acropolis. The room was very comfortable and clean and we slept very well. The service was excellent with the staff coming in at night and closing the curtains as well as changing wet towels in the bathroom. Breakfast which was included in the price for us was very good, plenty of choice hot and cold, fresh and well presented. The only slight issue with the hotel is the surrounding area. It was obviously a nice area when the hotel was built but has suffered with the effects of shops etc closing down. During the day it is not so noticeable but at night when the shutters are down it can look dark and depressing with all the graffiti. Having said that my wife and I did not feel at all worried or threatened at any time. We walked to and from the hotel to the main attractions many times day and night and it was fine. My wife said had she been on her own or with female friend she may not have felt so comfortable about walking around by the hotel.

Dear Andycarpet,

Thank you for uploading your positive comment, regarding Melia Athens. Please note, that your feedback is of crucial importance to us as we count on that in order to improve our services. With regards to the comments about the hotel’s location, we are sorry to read that the area has not fully met your expectations. Athens is generally safer than comparably sized metropolitan cities. As in any large city, there are areas that precautions are suggested, but Athens is not dangerous and street crime is rare. The area that Melia Athens is located is full of people in the day time and it is a very interesting spot where Greeks come to make their shopping. There are big malls and many shops in the round area.

Thank you for choosing Melia Athens, we hope to see you again in the future.

Kind Regards,
Zoi Kanto-Tourkmani

It's a clean, pleasant, decent Melia hotel -- that's fine. But you cannot compare this to other similar hotels because it has one extraordinary feature: the most amazing rooftop bar with views of the whole city and of the Acropolis. The cocktails are quite pricey at 12EUR but it's worth it for the amazing view. There's also an infinity pool on the roof for the daytime, although it isn't deep.

I would recommend you book this compared to any other chain hotel in the city. It's not every day you can drink a Long Island Iced Tea in the evening with a view of the Acropolis!

We were staying overnight in Athens, 6 of us, and leaving early the next morning from Omonoia to Skiathos via bus. We wanted to stay close to the bus departure area. Omonoia was not my first choice for an area to stay in, but this hotel was not bad. The rooms were clean and the bathrooms great. Decent service.
