We planned carefully for our trip to Athens this July 2006. We were meeting family there and all planning to stay in the Plaka district at the Adrian Hotel. We had reserved, placed a deposit and confirmed a reservation for a room through a web site called Trav in April 2006 for 4 nights June 30th through July 4th, 2006. We had been in Greece for two weeks and a half weeks when we returned to Athens and arrived via the Metro dragging all our bags to the Adrian. The Adrian is a lovely hotel in the wonderful Plaka district. My brother checked in with no problem, he had made his reservations only one month prior on another web site. When we tried to register, we were told there was a problem with our reservation and Trav had overbooked their "allotment". We were being transferred to another hotel owned by the same company who owns the Adrian, called the Jason Prime. Both hotels, along with the Jason Inn and King Jason in Athens are owned by a company called Douros Hotels. We were informed that the Jason Prime was a much nicer hotel and our room was being upgraded at no extra cost. After a long days journey by ferry we were just glad to have a hotel set up and not be left stranded. Little did we know. We had taken the Metro form Piraeus to save some money and now had to fork out 10 euros to take a cab to the Jason Prime which was no where near the Plaka district or our family. The Jason Prime is located in the Omonia district on a small and dark side street. When we got to the hotel we were very disappointed. The neighborhood was very dirty and seedy. There was a 3 foot pile of garbage outside the front door for the entire 4 days we stayed there. Day or night there was a plethora of unsavory appearing immigrants, all hanging around the square across the street from the hotel. We personally saw numerous drug and sex transactions going on at all hours but especially in the evening as we came and went for dinner. Leaving the hotel one morning we nearly stepped on a used syringe on the street just outside the hotel's revolving door. Our hotel was at least 5 blocks from the Metro station and in order to spend time with our family, be able to siesta and redress for late dinners, we ending up taking the Metro 4-6 times per day in 102 degree weather and even during an unusual and unexpected downpour. Fortunately, the Plaka was only one Metro stop away from us, this at least was bearable as we also had another 5 block walk to meet our family after getting off the Metro at Plaka. The Jason Prime Hotel itself was clean and neat inside. The staff at the front desk was helpful and polite. The bar staff did not speak English well and were not very familiar with the drink menu and this made for some interesting cocktails. They were strong at least. Our room # 610 was very nice but not a big upgrade as compared to the Adrian. Breakfast was included at 140 euros per night and consisted of 4 kinds of cooked eggs, bread, muffins, bacon, sausage, fruits, cereals, juice, honey, yogurt and even Greek salad! It was self serve and tasted great. However the coffee was not self serve and the service was slow for getting the first cup and refills. There was no other restaurant except the breakfast buffet and this was only open 6:30 am to 10 am . The bad part of the breakfast area was they had 2 decorative arches leading into the food area. The arch is about 6 foot high and my husband is 6'5". He hit his head really hard on the arch (it was not marked). It really shocked him as well as all the staff and patrons and gave him a terrible headache and ruined his morning. The rooms had good air conditioning and the bathroom was very small. The tub was difficult to get in and out of due the high sides and poor placement of grab bars. The view from room # 610 was horrible and was definitely not up to par with the view of the Parthenon from the Adrian. We talked with guests in the lobby and bar that had been upgraded the same as we were from other hotels including other Dourous hotels. This made us wonder if this is how they fill the Jason Prime as no one would chose to stay there once they saw the neighborhood, especially not the families with children we saw there. The beds were comfortable and the daily maid service very efficient. It was only one metro stop to the National Archeological Museum, which was convenient. It cost us only 21 euros to go from the Jason Prime to the Airport when we left which made us wonder why the trip from the Adrian the first day was 10 euros. Despite the horrible neighborhood, we still managed to have a great time in Athens. We kept telling ourselves the extra walking was good exercise and we probably saw more of the real side of Athens (including it's underbelly) during the many trips we made back and forth then we would have otherwise. My husband and I are very street savvy and did not feel unsafe unless we took a wrong turn on the walk back to the Jason Prime from the Metro. I would never have willingly agreed to stay here and it was a huge disappointment but when life gives you lemons you just got to make lemonade.

The hotel, in general, is very nice and clean. Although the location is quite seedy. I didn't dare venture out by myself at night. As for the staff, at the front desk and even the ones at the restaurant, most of them are not very welcoming. It appears as if they're not happy when you ask them for something. I'm not a demanding guest, so their behavior didn't bother me much.

The room was clean. The bed was not exactly comfortable, but it was okay. There is a safe in the room which is good, too. The t.v. works, but not much of selections to choose from. I mostly watched CNN, that's about it. The breakfast they serve is, for the most part, good. Oh, and if you plan to have dinner at the restaurant, better advise them a day in advance. After getting back from the islands, I was tired and hungry and wasn't really up to going out for dinner. But when I got to the restaurant, I was surprised to see it closed. So, I asked the front desk about it and I was told that I should have advised them the day before if I plan have dinner there... duh??? I don't know if this is because I was there during the mid-season or something. But I think they should inform the guests about this upon check-in, which they didn't do in my case. There's quite a few places to eat close to the hotel. There's a small cafe called Kaleo ( I think) which serves a very good Souvlaki. There's also a restaurant right in front of the hotel.

I won't be writing off this hotel this early. I hope the hotel management and staff get their act together and rev up their customer service skills. With high season just around the corner, they should be ready if they want guests to keep coming through the door.

This is a lovely hotel in a not so lovely neighbourhood. We stayed here for a few days in June and had already been at another hotel close by for a few days so we knew what we were getting. The room was lovely, modern and spacious. It had a great balcony and bathroom with a tub. There are great restaurants nearby and it is convenient to get anywhere on the metro including the airport and port (avoid the taxis, if they don't avoid you first).
The staff was nice and helpful and breakfast was great.
Drawbacks are the neighbourhood, which looks bad, but we had no problems at all and the lack of ventilation in the bathroom. Other than those I would recommend the hotel to anyone.

The Hotel itself was lovely, no smoking smell which is what everyone complained about but the situation of the hotel itself is in a very sketchy area which might put other people off! there is no swimming pool but taking that into consideration there is only 2 swimming pools in the whole are and you have to pay 10euros per person to use those. We asked a Taxi driver to take us to the nearest beach on the first day DO NOT DO THAT! he took us to one of the worst beaches in the country AVOID EDEM BEACH! the best beach to go to would be voulaz beach which is absolutley stunning! you do have to pay 5 euros admission but it is so worth it and your best bet for transport is to buy a 10euro ticket at the metro station and for that you can use any sort of public transport excluding taxi's as much as you like for the whole week, its really good value!
At the hotel the staff were quite friendly although one of the receptionists is the most miserable person ive ever met in all my life and the bar staff cant really speak english that well so if you have any requests for your food then forget it you just get wat ur given!
i really dont think i will visit there again as i prefer a beach holiday with a pool or the beach nearby not like 1 hour away!

May 19-21. My husband and I were supposed to stay at the Golden City Hotel but were transferred here because Golden City ran out of rooms (people didn't check out when they should have). So I can't comment on the value of this hotel since we probably paid less than normal, since Golden City is a category B and Jason Prime is category A.

The hotel is very nice, with modern furnishings. The room is not big, but not small either. We had no problem fitting our luggage, and there was a nice big closet with plenty of hangers. It's tastefully furnished and the bathroom was modern and large, with a big tub.

We had a balcony that had a view of a solid wall from the building next door, but in a way it was good because it offered privacy. It was nice to be able to open the sliding door and let the air and light in without people being able to look in.

Breakfast was one of the best we had in Greece. Someone else described it as basic. I don't know what breakfast they went to, because our breakfast had different kinds of bread, breakfast meats, and eggs that were really good. I don't really like eggs, but these were delicous. Also, yoghurt with honey, fruit, cereals, fruit juices, feta, tomoatoes, cucumbers, dako (a Greek speciality of bread with tomatoes and feta - the Greek version of Bruschetta), and I can't remember what else. It was a very nice breakfast, and the breakfast room was very nice. I really appreciated that they divided the smoking section from the non-smoking section, and they played very pleasant music. The 2 attending women were very friendly, and prompt in bringing us coffee and offering refills without us having to ask.

I am really sensitive to cigarette smoke, and I didn't smell cigarettes in the hallways, as others have commented, just in the lobby when people were sitting there smoking. EVERYONE smokes in Greece, including the desk clerks at hotels. We found the front desk very helpful, though.

The area is not great, but we didn't feel unsafe. The people do lounge around, but they never bother you, and never approach you. I felt more unsafe in Chicago. The walk to Omonia is about 4 short blocks and we did it late at night. We had to catch a plane early in the morning and actually wheeled our luggage to the metro at about 4:30am and didn't feel unsafe at all. There are always cars going by.

Overall, if I could get a good price, I would stay here again. If I could get a comparable price in a hotel closer to Plaka, I would pick Plaka. But there's nothing wrong with this hotel. They do a good job.
