The Sofitel Hotel is worth staying at for its location next to Athens International airport. The rooms are luxurious, you have your own bathrobe and slippers and the walk in shower/bath is large. The bar service was friendly and we both had a snack and a drink whilst at the hotel. To get into Athens central (Monastariki), it takes about forty minutes on the metro and costs five euros each way, which you must validate in the machines before getting on the train. We found a really nice mini street train just above Monastraiki station, this will take you to the Accropolis and complete a circuit around the centre of Athens. There is a good restaurant opposite it (on the corner). You can take the train and stop at the bottom of the Accropolis and then get back on afterwards.
