“Loved it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2013

Don't expect to be sign posted to the Plaka. You have to 'discover' it! Wander around the streets, explore areas, etc. The area nearest the Acropolis Museum is lovely with lots of shops, bars, cafes and restaurants, and very touristy,. The area around the Roman Agora and the ancient Agora is quite different; flea market, some great restaurants, lovely sights, etc.

“A great walk through narrow paths!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2013

During summer time it will be quite difficult to get through the other side of the street (by walking of course) but during Spring or Fall you will have a better chance, especially at night , to enjoy a nice peacefull walk. The touristic shops are always open (with few ecxeptions to the rule) for all kind of tastes (clothing, jewlery, bars, restaurants, tavernas etc). Make sure you park your car away from that spot as you will face a great difficulty to get through the pedestrians (get a taxi, they are still cheap!). Great coffee and desserts at "Amaltheia" and really tasteful local delicacies at "Bakaliarakia" taverna. Enjoy it!

“Best shopping and dining”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

Our hotel was right up the street from this Plaka square. Every night there was something happening there. The square would fill up with hundreds of people and there would be bands playing and street vendors selling their wares. Some of the stores were open from 9 or 10 in the morning until midnight or later. We had so much fun just strolling through the streets shopping all day and then stopping for dinner at our favorite restaurant, Ydria, and then watching the people in the square for a bit on our way back to our hotel for the night. The Plaka is NOT to be missed! It was a wonderful surprise!

“old town-all time classic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

if you are a tourist then you must visit Plaka. It ls located at the foothills of Acropolis hill and is considered as the heart of the old city with many ancient exhibits, like the the place where Diogenis jar was found, the column of the winds and of course Herodeon and Parthenon. Plaka has also Byzantine monuments like the Sant Catherine's temple, the temple of Holy grave, etc.
It is safe during day and night. You can visit many traditional taverns, cafes etc. Walk through Anafiotika and reach- on the top of the hill- Parthenon. From Plaka you can visit on foot the new national museum, the Zeus temple opposite to the national park-Zappeion, Kallimarmaron Stadium, Syntagma square, Monastiraki (with great souvlaki) and Ermou street for shopping.
Many Greek and foreign artists live in Plaka, shipowners, etc.

“So Much Variety”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

We spent a few days wandering around the Plaka and managed to have a good look around and experience Athens. The shopping was very good and we managed to find a friendly Taverna just off the Plaka that looked after us very well. Cool drinks on hot days can't be beaten
