“nice place to go in the evening”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2013

...where nearly EVERYBODY!! is in the streets! Very overcrowded, but still nice to go for ONE evening - or find your personal restaurant or taverna. But have a look to the ground - here is the place where Sokrates and the others walked around!

“least favorite part of Athens”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2013

I loved most of my brief time in Athens, except for the few hours we spent wandering the Plaka. This is probably what gives Athens its bad reputation, as it is the most touristy part of the city. We unfortunately were hungry and ate the worst, most mediocre food of our entire trip. The shop vendors are mostly nice and honest, as I found most people in Greece. But, beware the dishonest vendors.

“Always nice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2013

Having been to Athens many times, I always enjoy a walk in Plaka. Very nice and cozy. Of course if you are looking for a goumet restaurant, this is not the place. But you can enjoy reasonable food and have a look at the scenery and all the tourist. Even though there are clearly much fewer tourist now, compared to some years ago.

“Crowded, but not many different places”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2013

The market is on small paths, very nice. Most of the vendors are friendly, except someone who are desperate for buyers!! Most of them sell similar stuffs. I tried to come to Monastiraki part, which is more fun and signature, I think

“Tourist hell”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2013

We did not like this area of Athens at all. Two hours of being pestered by peddlers trying to sell us useless trashy souvenirs ruined our visit to Athens.

We also ate in one of the restaurants who were pleasant enough until we said we didn't drink wine and wanted only water or juice with our meal after which we were ignored. The food was also very average.

We weren't aware that the Plaka was full of nothing but tourist traps when we went there and if we had been we would have avoided it.
