There is nothing I would change about this hotel. Everything about our stay was perfect.
On arrival we were given a free room upgrade. We've been given 'upgrades' before at other hotels and were a bit suspicious about this, but we couldn't have asked for a better room. It was very spacious, very clean, and exquisitely furnished. The lights and air conditioning were on an electronic control unit, there was an i-pod docking station, CD player - the works. Elegant decoration with an old fashioned luxury and style, and with all mod-cons. The room was very quiet, as was the rest of the hotel - we weren't even aware of a full-scale political rally (peaceful, thankfully) going on in Syntagma Square until the doorman actually opened the door for us to go out.
With the comfortable beds and the blackout curtains, we slept exceedingly well!
Staff were all courteous, professional and very welcoming. Each evening the turn-down service left chocolates (always welcome) and there was an excellent choice of menu for room service (although we didn't use it).
Buffet breakfast was superb, there was every choice you could want with amazing fresh orange juice, your own choice of how you want your eggs cooked, and an attentive (without being intrusive) service. The view of the Acropolis and the Parliament building from the breakfast room is outstanding.
Wi-Fi is free in the rooms and public areas of the hotel, there is a business centre with free access to computers and printing, and a spa (which we didn't get to use because of time).
The main shopping streets and a huge variety of eateries are right on the doorstep of the hotel.
Location is excellent. The hotel overlooks Syntagma Square, which is dominated by the Greek parliament building (the changing of the guard, 11am Sunday mornings, is a must see) and the National Gardens, a welcome oasis in this bustling city. The metro is yards from the hotel, giving easy access to all the sites in Athens (€4 euros for a 24 hour ticket gives you access to all forms of public transport). A couple of minutes walk will find you in the heart of the cafe lined district of Plaka, and the Acropolis is 10 minutes by metro (to the south entrance). Syntagma Square's metro station is a 40 minute ride from the airport (€8 each or €14 for joint, two-person ticket is a good price).
Negative: One of the lift's doors takes quite a long time to close (that's the only "negative" I can think of).
