“Slow tempo”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 10, 2012

Business was slow, people are not buying, most are just walking by, mainly window-shopping only. Shop assistants looked bored or are calling out to tourists and passers-by to come into their shops. The current sad economy of the country has affected the locals very badly, with many shops and restaurants going out of business.

“An Experience!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2012

Monastiraki is a place that is just buzzing with life!!!! While not as 'refined' as Plaka or Ermou, it is certainly the place to visit and hang-out in Athens, especially at night when it is just swarming with people! There are several lovely eateries along the footpaths and this is THE place to do your souvenir shopping, with several shops along the streets (when you come out of the metro station, turn left) where you can bargain.

“Great shopping fun...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2012

If you're into flea markets and shopping in general, you'll love Monastiraki. Narrow lanes crammed with all sorts of goodies opening out at one stage into an antiques/bric-a-brac area. Plenty to absorb the most ardent shopaholic!

“The area to know Athens”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2012

I have been to Athens between 1st Dec and 3rd Dec, I lived in O&B Hotel which is only few minutes walk to Monastiraki. The Monastiraki has some landmark such as temple must to see. And most famous are flea market and local food. We brought a pair of rain boot only 15 Euro. And we tried the local kebab which has pork or chicken inside.
