Probably the best budget accomodation we stayed in during a two week European vacation! Although probably not what a typical American might be used to, the hotel provided every basic necessity we could have wanted during our three night stay, and more. The hotel is about eight blocks from the nearest metro station and only about a fifteen minute walk from the Acropolis. If you are used to what to expect in a big city, the area around the hotel itsn't scary and is actually quite active at night. The downside is that it can be a bit noisy if you don't sleep soundly. However, we got lucky, and it was cool during our visit, so even though we skipped the optional A/C and just cracked the sliding door at night, we had no major problems waking up in the middle of the night. The only bad thing about the room was the quality of the beds, which were quite hard. Otherwise, the room was of good size and the bathrooms look to have been redone recently. The breakfast was included and very good for a budget hotel. As mentioned by others, it could be taken on a balcony with a nice view of the Acropolis. As far as the helpfulness of the staff, it was as good or better than almost any full-priced hotel I have stayed in. I had luggage lost on a flight connection, and once I had tracked it down and it had reached Athens, the staff facilitated it quickly being delivered to the hotel and brought up to our room. They also allowed us to leave luggage in the basement during two different trips away from Athens, both between and after stays at the hotel. If you are looking for American-caliber levels of luxury, this is not your place, but there are any number of them around Athens at twice the price. For great budget accomodations, especially for backpackers and students, I would definitely recommend this hotel in Athens.

We spent 4 days in Athens and were happy with the Evripides Hotel. The room was fine, the staff were helpful and friendly and the food was good and plentiful.

Budget accommodation in central Athens, close to lots of clubs, bars and restaurants. The room was of reasonable size and clean. Bathroom adequate. Good continental breakfast, including meats, cheeses, fruit, cereal, on the roof with views to the Acropolis.

We paid GBP35.91 per twin room per night for this hotel on Lastminute so I guess we get what we paid for. When we arrived, we found out we had to pay an additional Euro5 per night for air-conditioning. The lift was small and bumpy. The furniture was basic. The carpet showed signs of fraying and smelled like an old folks' home. The shower space was a little on the small side and not as clean as I would have liked it. While this hotel is situated in a convenient location just 5-10 minutes' walk from Monastiraki train station, it was a bit scary walking back at night as there were lots of "ladies of the night" on the street right outside our hotel. The walls weren't very soundproof and there were traffic noises all through the night. The people were friendly and helpful, though, happy to point out things we needed to know and to let us leave our luggage with them when we went to Delphi. However, their left luggage space was just a dark, dingy, unlocked little room, and there seemed to be very little security - having said that, we got our things back unharmed. Breakfast was included, and was pretty good.
