I stayed at the Poseidon in October 2006 and found it to be a nice hotel in a great location. The common areas were pleasant and bright, probably remodeled for the Olympics. The rooftop pool was nice and the view was magnificent. I stayed in a double room which was of average size. The bathroom had a slight moldy smell, but the room was otherwise clean. The A/C died, but it wasn't a factor since I didn't spend much time there during the warm days and the nights were cool enough that I could leave the patio door open to keep things comfortable. The bed left much to be desired. It was an old school wooden platform style topped with a stiff mattress. The front desk personnel said it was a typical Greek setup and all the beds in the hotel were the same. I slept better on the beach which, by the way, is across the street (6 lanes of traffic). It's not a Florida sugar-sand type beach. It has lots of pebbles mixed in with the sand, but the water is clean and the beach was pleasant enough. The beach promenade is a nice place to take a stroll at night. The Edem tram stop is across the street, and it costs 60 cents (euro) for the 35 minute trip to Syntagma Square. Glyfada is only a few stops in the other direction, and Pireus looked to be a short ride as well (I didn't go on that route). The E96 airport bus stops at the tram station. I took a taxi which cost 20 euro and took about 40 minutes. There's a nice Italian restaurant on one side of the hotel and a small grocery store on the other. There are also two snack kiosks nearby, so you won't go hungry. Overall, a nice location I thought.
Aside from the uncomfortable bed, my experience at this hotel was positive and I'd recommend it to anyone looking to spend some time relaxing at the beach while still in close proximity to downtown Athens and Pireaus.
