“My favorite restaurant in Athens”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2013

I have been waiting long to find such a restaurant in Athens. Places were either too gimmicky, or trying too hard to mix renew greek food, with questionable results.
2 Mazi has it right. The outside sitting (not so crazy about the inside) is tasteful and pleasantly contemporary. The service is smily, efficient and professional without being obsequious. More important, the food is a right combination of greek product sand dishes with pleasant twists.
I highly recommend this place which is now one of my regular restaurant when I travel through Athens.

“A wonderful meal with a great, friendly chef”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2013

It was our last night in Athens at the tail end of a two week trip to Turkey and Greece. We had spent a very hot day at the Parthenon, returned to our hotel to get some rest and headed out for dinner. The original restaurant we were planning on going to was inexplicably closing at 8 p.m. (I thought Greek restaurants usually got going at that time!) so we were wandering around the tourist district trying to avoid the restaurant touts, looking for something different. 2Mazi had been recommended by our hotel concierge and was very close but had very few vegetarian options, so we had skipped it the night before. However, this evening we were a bit desperate. The girls outside the restaurant said they would accomodate our dietary restrictions even though the menu was not promising, so we reluctantly went in.

Boy, are we glad we did! Ilias Gogos, one of the 2 chefs (2Mazi means two chefs) did not speak much English, so we had to have the waitress translate for us. But once he understood that we were vegetarians, he pretty much threw away the menu and asked us what we wanted, made all sorts of suggestions for dishes he could create and we each ordered what we wanted. Ilias pretty much adopted us for the evening and ended up spending most of it with us, chatting about all sorts of topics, despite the fact that the restaurant was fairly busy. Somehow the lack of English seemed to not matter anymore and we were able to communicate even though the waiters were not around. He explained the dishes we were having, how they were made, where the ingredients came from, specific recommendations for drinks and dessert. We even ended up chatting about the art in the restaurant (which was very distinctive) and the artist and her portfolio and style. His passion and love for his work came through very clearly and it was a pleasure to experience it. It was a wonderful way to end our trip to Greece! Would highly recommend 2Mazi. It is tucked away in a side street, away from the tourist thoroughfare but worth seeking out.

“Creative chef makes for interesting flavors”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2013

We had an early dinner reservation and since the weather was nice, we ended up eating outside in the garden (next door to the restaurant). The service was very friendly and the food even better. From the starter to the dessert, each course was a work of art with very interesting combinations of flavors. It was pretty obvious that the chef was a magician with fresh herbs, since each course (including dessert) included some combination that left you tempted to try different herbs with different portions of food. When paired with the wine, it made for a very different experience. We loved 2MAZI and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone visiting Athens.

“Upscale restaurant near Syntagma Square”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2013

My wife and I share the enthusiastic comments of the other reviewers. We had the 9 item tasting menu in mid-June 2013, in a lovely spot in the patio on a relatively quiet street near the square. The restaurant clearly takes itself seriously but nevertheless has a nice informality to it. The maître d' told us that the menu was inspired by traditional Greek cuisine -- it was certainly more sophisticated and innovative than the typical fare at the tavernas. The items we tasted were excellent and nicely presented. Service was superb and waitstaff were friendly. Expensive by Greek standards (certainly in comparison to the tavernas in the area) but prices were in line with what I expected for an upscale restaurant and the food was really very nice. Highly recommended.

“Romantic ambience, beautiful service, interesting flavors”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2013 via mobile

We very much enjoyed a 9 taste dinner in the outside garden in June 2013 (though by our count, there seemed to be a lot more than that, which appears to be the Greek way). The waiting staff provided beautiful service (which really enhanced the ambience of the place), were extremely efficient and introduced us to some new and interesting food and drinks. The food left us well and truly sated, but without the bloated feeling. The 9 tastes provided a lovely variety of ingredients and flavors. We recommend 2MAZI for a romantic night out.
