We are just home from a 3 night stay at the Parthenon Hotel in Athens. We found it to be a very nice hotel with a great location. The staff are friendly and helpful. There is a very nice buffet breakfast. Also, there is FREE internet access from the lobby and also from your room in case you've brought along your laptop.
We were in room 601, and I think it was very non-representative of the rooms in this hotel. It was a bit shabbier and not so well decorated. BUT, it had an amazing view of the Parthenon and a huge roof balcony. It also had a very loud vent from the kitchen, but they turn it off at night.
We paid 128 euros per night, and I thought that this was a pretty good deal for this location. I had tried to book us at the highly rated AVA hotel, but even 3 months in advance they had no vacancies. Even if you don't wind up at the Parthenon Hotel, this is definately the part of Athens where you want to be. Everything is walking distance, including lots of wonderful restaurants.
I certainly recommend the Parthenon Hotel.

We stayed at the Hotel Parthenon for a total of 4 nights and we all absolutely loved our stay there. The rooms were comftorable and quiet, the breakfast delicious with a nice mix of Greek and non-Greek samplings. I loved the stuffed grape leaves and yogurt with honey. The hotel staff was very friendly (like most of the Greeks we met), very helpful, and always ready. I would stay here again in a flash. The greatest asset of the Hotel though is its location. Within a few minute walk you could be at the Acroplolis, Plaka, Temple of Olympian Zeus, Hadrian's Arch or a Metro station. Up the block from the hotel towards the Acropolis was nice restaurant where locals frequented so you know that it is really good. The price of the hotel was very inexpensive considering the quality of the hotel and especially the location.

Note: We visited December, 2006, just before Christmas. For some reason this is the low-low season (the hotel was not very busy) in Athens and Greece in general. The weather was wonderful for sightseeing, highs in the 60's and there were absolutely no crowds at any of the sights. Not great beach weather, but who can complain when hotel prices are down and you have major tourist destinations practically to yourself. Frineds of ours went in July, and the temperature was in the 90's and very humid, and in their pic's there was nothing but crowds. My advice, go in winter.

This hotel wasn't as great as the previous reviews made it out to be. The location in regards to proximity to Acropolis is fabulous but the hotel as a whole was nothing great. The beds were horribly hard and the pillows were flat as pancakes. The "balcony" rooms face an apartment building's balconies and you can't leave your curtains open or the people can see right in. We woke up to pounding construction the day after new years right below our room - I guess they were working on their retractable roof for the outside sitting area. It wasn't very courteous to do loud construction in the morning especially without warning the guests. The breakfast was just OK. We stayed 3 nights and after the first morning we never went back to it. Overall the hotel was ok, location was good, but it was definitely not worth the price we paid for it. Four stars is very generous. I'd say three is more suitable. I would go back to this hotel only if nothing else was available.

The hotel couldn't be located in a BETTER place. Acropolis is literally a 5-10 minute walk. The hotel staff are VERY friendly and extremely helpful. We arrived very early on a Monday morning and weren't able to check in til later however, because my fiance wasn't feeling too well, they managed to get things organised for us very quickly!!! It was the ONLY hotel we didnt have to pay for our postcard stamps in the 33 hotels we stayed in our trip across Europe. Breakfast was pretty good. Highly recommend it!

My wife and I, both in our 50's, went to Athens for a week-end retreat. We chose the Parthenon Hotel primarily because of the proximity to the Acropolis. It was a pleasant find and a great place to stay. We particularly were impressed by the friendliness of the staff and their willingness to go out of the way to help us find our way in this grand city. The hotel was clean except for the carpet that had some minor stains and the ample breakfast usually held us over through the day so that we did not have to buy lunch. We ate lots of our meals in the Plaka but also found great values in restaurants in other immediate locations, several recommended by the hotel staff. We would certainly return to both Athens and the Parthenon. One minor complaint concerned our request for a double bed which turned out to be two twin beds pushed together. On the whole a good value for a three star hotel.
