“Massive Columns and View of Acropolis”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2013

This temple is mostly destroyed but there are a few of its massive columns still in tact. You can imagine how imposing this building must have been at the time of use.

From the temple you can have photos with the Acropolis in the background. The site is mostly wide open space although you cannot enter into the temple. There are benches with shading trees here to sit and I would even recommend a picnic here for lunch.

Compared to the Acropolis this location was not crowded.

At the entrance there is a water fountain and soda machines to refresh. The location is a short walk (15 mins) from the Acropolis.

“Impressive!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2013

It's amazing to see what ancient architecture could do! We got the Akropolis/Temple of Zeus package and were not disappointed! Make sure to do Hadrian's Arch while you're close by!

“Huge”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2013

This site gives you an idea of how dedicated ancient Greeks were to building temples for their gods. The sheer size of this temple is hard to imagine. The columns are immense. Worth a stop by, its free with your admission to the Acropolis, so why not take advantage and stop on by. This is history.

“Ruins of the Temple of Zeus”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2013

I visited here in June 2013 and was staying at the hotel next door, the Athens Gate hotel. The hotel has a wonderful view of the Temple of Zeus (and the Acropolis) from a roof top bar. My first evening in, I came up to the roof top and enjoyed the amazing view of the ruins within this temple.

The temple only has around 20 of the original 140 columns remaining standing and one column which topped over within the past 100 years, which allows you to fully appreciate the size and scale of this temple.

Entrance to the temple is included in the 12 Eur ticket which mostly people buy anyway to go to the Acropolis, so it is worth it to walk down to see this temple after the Acropolis. It isn't too far and you can see the Plaka and Hadrian's Arch on the way over. Otherwise, you can enter the grounds for 2 Euro. If you can't make it down to the property, it really does look amazing from all angles, even looking down from the Acropolis.

“Magnificent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2013

With only a few of the original 140 columns remaining it is difficult to get a sense of how imposing this building must have been when it was completed, however spend a while there and you get the sense of it. The column that toppled over 100 years or so ago, still remains where it fell and it gives a sense of the skill of the artisans that made it, when you see how each section went together. A stunning place to visit and great view up to the Acropolis too.
