We stayed our first and last nights in Greece at Hotel Attalos, which is in a good location for a walk through Monastiraki Square, the Plaka, and the acropolis. It is extremely convenient to the metro, which goes straight from the airport or Piraeus to the stop at Monastiraki (no need for cabs). The rooftop patio was an excellent place to hang out with a wonderful view of the acropolis.

However, the rooms were run down, though clean, and the beds were extremely uncomfortable even by Greek standards. The rooms overlooking the street had a nice balcony with view of the acropolis, however the street is very loud and cars seem to really blast their stereos. I would recommend getting a back room where it's much quieter.

I might recommend this budget hotel, but I woke up after both stays with an aching back/neck. All in all, the stay was satisfactory for the rate.

The hotel is in a great location. Great rooftop bar with an outstanding view of the Acropolis. Service was OK.

Do not get a 6th floor room because it sits right beneath the rooftop bar. The bar is supposed to close at midnight and there were people dragging their chairs and there was so much noise up to 2 am. The cigarette smoke is much worse on the 6th floor too. If you open up your windows for fresh air, you will get billows of cigarette smoke. Best to get a room on the 4th floor and under if you hate cigarette smoke. The smoke came in through the hotel room vents too. Made for a miserable stay.

The beds were very uncomfortable. Depending on the room, the bathrooms could be very odd. (We stayed there on 3 occasions). One bathroom, the bath stall was very deep and very scary to step in and out of and it was very narrow. An accident truly waiting to happen!

Breakfast royally sucked. All processed foods with the exception of hard boiled eggs and maybe the yogurt. Orange juice is fake orange juice.

Hotel Attalos is an inexpensive hotel located in the Plaka district a short walk from the Metro and the Acropolis. It is an easy ride from the airport to the Monastiraki Metro station and then a short walk to the hotel. A taxi from the airport to the hotel is much more expensive. The rooms are nice and clean with a view of the Acropolis. The staff speaks English and they are very willing to answer all your questions about the city, tours and restaurants.

The hotel was very easy to get to using the metro from the airport. The metro station at Monastiraki is a block from the hotel. We had a triple room. The room was very clean, with a balcony overlooking the street as well as the Acropolis. The breakfast bar was the weak point of the hotel, I wuold recommend eating elsewhere. Overall, you might be able to find better deals elsewhere, but this hotel should meet most travelers needs.
