My daughter and I traveled to Athens to visit a friend studying abroad. We decided to stay at this hotel based on a recommendation from Matt Barrett's website on Athens. The hotel was a perfect location for us. We were within walking distance of everything we wanted to see...the flea market on Sunday, Plaka shopping, the Acropolis, the central market, museums, good eats, etc. Also very close to the metro (though it was on strike 2 days out of 7!) The hotel did communicate this by posting signs in the lobby. They were also helpful for us finding a restaurant that we wanted to eat at in Gazi - Mamacas (excellent BTW).

We had a room on the 3rd floor facing the street. Once our balcony door was shut we never heard any street noise and slept great. Our room was very clean and comfortable. For the off season price of 70 Euros - it was a great bargain. We only stayed in our room to sleep! We spent our waking time - walking around the city or going on tours. We used the computers some- mostly to check out more things to do or see the weather forecast.... The hotel staff was friendly except for one person who was more attentive only when the owner walked by! The maids even organized some of the items we left laying around by bringing bags to store stuff in or containers for our make-up!! It was nice to be able to catch breakfast there too on a couple of days. The view from the rooftop was great. When we checked out - our bill was accurate though I see some people wrote theirs wasn't. I guess everyone has their own opinion but I would stay again. I would rather spend my money on tours, eating and shopping!

Love and Extremely Dislike

Despite reading other reviews here, we decided to stay at this hotel based a Greece travel guide. As we learned this is a hotel that you can love and extremely dislike at the same time.
The best part of the Attalos is their great location. Walking distance to the Metro, Acropolis, museums, tavernas and shopping in the Plaka.
The location is also one of the problems with this hotel. The Attalos is on a very busy street with a tremendous amount of noise. If your room is on the street side, expect traffic noise until late in the night, only to start up again very early in the morning.
Noise continues to be a problem inside the hotel. Hotel guest who visit the bar on the top floor can be very loud as they go down the stairs for the evening. With the hotels open stairway, loud conversations can be clearly heard several floors away. So getting a quiet night’s sleep is a matter of chance. Out the 5 nights we stayed, 3 nights were extremely disturbed.
Finally, most of the staff were very helpful and courteous, however, there was one staff member whose tolerance was thinly disguised. The rooms were the typical European style that you will find in many other hotels, nothing special but functional.
So if you’re looking for a convenient central location the Attalos is a good choice. If comfort and quiet is important, strongly consider other locations.

We stayed at the Attalos based on an online recommendation and because we wanted to try another hotel after returning to Athens. The price was good but other than the front desk staff not really any better than our other hotel. You pay for breakfast, the beds are adequate though my husband tossed and turned and the sheets were not retucked when made that day. There is free internet access (20 min limit) the view from the terrace is great but we did not go to the terrace bar. The bathroom was good but the shower a bit too strong. The room was adequate in size for 2 adults and our 12 year old. TV had CNN. We had a balcony and the door to it was sound proof so although we were over Athinas Street we did not hear street noise. It is extremely convenient-2 min walk from the metro and you can walk everywhere easily. You are given a map and a card with your location and a local map when you check in that is very helpful. We would stay here again for the convenience and the price but are more likely to check out other similar hotels.

Better than a youth hostel, but not by much. The rooms are small and bland, and a little behind on maintenance. Even so, the value is undeniable. You are a short walk to the metro and all of the major sites. Any other hotel in the area is 50% to 100% more expensive. That being said, if you're taking a honeymoon or a "price is no object" type of trip, I would discourage you from staying at this hotel. This is not a "memory for a lifetime" type of hotel. For a young traveller on a budget, it's a great base of operations to see Athens.

This hotel is nothing special. The rates are pretty good, but the room is VERY basic. The hairdryer is useless and the ammenities are just very basic. We probably wouldn't stay there again. We stayed at AVA Hotel the last night and it was MUCH better for only a few more dollars a night. There was also quite a bit of noise on the street at night. We were in a room facing the street and the first night we didn't sleep a bit. The breakfast is also nothing to write home about. Just an OK hotel, compare it to an older Motel 6, in the US.

  • Liked — Walking distance to acropolis
  • Disliked — Could hear people in the next room, on the street, etc.
