“Wonderful staff and location, average hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2013

The positives:

- Amazing location in the old town of Plaka, within walking distance of all the major sites (Acropolis, Ancient Agora, Roman Agora etc.)
- Knowledgeable and very helpful, kind staff - making great recommendations and organising taxis and trips efficiently and at reasonable prices.
- Interesting old building - I think the staff said it was 150+ years old

The negatives:
- The breakfast - consists of bread, cake, cereal and some limited fruit. No yoghurt! In Greece! Pretty much impossible to make a healthy meal from the food on offer.
- The bathroom (ensuite) - a dark and very tired wet room
- The TV- didn't work, but we didn't bother complaining as we could hear through the static that it was only in Greek

All in all, the room is basic but the price is reasonable for the location and the staff really are wonderful.

Charming hotel in a historic building, right in Plaka (10 minutes to Acropolis). Owners and staff are very friendly and accommodating - including early check-in, sightseeing recommendations, etc. Breakfast is delicious, the best we've had in Greece (homemade jam, freshly baked cake, delicious fruits - all in addition to more common items like eggs, cereal and such).

Room Tip: ask for ground floor if you have reduced mobility (no elevator)

The Acropolis House hotel is located in the heart of Plaka, and close to shops, markets and restaurants. good price, the staff is excellent. The hotel is old, the room we had for 3 people, was terrible: very old, out-dated, very small, and the bathroom was very small also, and lots of doors inside!. besides, and the most inconvenient point is the stairs!! there is no elevator, and carrying luggages up was very difficult for us. breakfast was quite poor.

The Acropolis House hotel is ideally located in the heart of Plaka in Athens. This makes sightseeing, shopping and eating very convenient. The hotel is over 100 years old and they had a room to accommodate a couple with a teenage son. The front desk people were genuinely helpful and were glad to share any information that they had. Breakfast was good; it was pretty standard fare but the difference was that much of it was homemade (fresh croissants, homemade fig jam). I would highly recommend this hotel.

Nice and clean, the staff is excellent, they provide helpful tips all the time, the location is probably the best in Athens. We used Dimitris for traveling, the best you can have, extremely friendly person and never rush and is always in time.
Hotel receptionist Jasmin and Andreas are great, better will be hard to find. Hope to see you soon

This was my first time in Athens, and I found that the Hotel Acropolis House which is located in the Plaka district was the perfect location for someone who likes to walk. Jasmine and Andreas were always cheerfully ready to help at the front desk, and all of the staff were exceptionally kind and friendly. You got the feeling that there was nothing that they wouldn't do for you if you just asked. The hotel is old, but it was immaculately clean, and it was an exceptional bargain since it also included breakfast. There was a computer available in the front sitting room for those of us who do not travel with internet capability. If you don't mind the walk-up, you can get a room on the 4th floor where you have a splendid view of the Acropolis, and it is really quite spectacular at night. The Hotel Acropolis House is a hidden gem with fantastic staff.

Room Tip: Top floor has a view of the Acropolis, but the hotel is a walk-up; so you need to be ready for the s...

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Hotel Acropolis House is a preserved mansion of the last century, in excellent condition. It is consisted essentially of two different buildings together. The oldest of these is a stone manor house about 120 years old and the other is well-built four-floor building of 75 years. In 1965 it was modified to a hotel from the family Choudalakis, which operates since. Generally the hotel is a two star family business with character, providing security and full service to both families, and unique people who respect the identity of the hotel. In total the hotel has comfortable single, double and large rooms for families. The Hotel Acropolis House has a non smoking policy in all areas. Guests may smoke in the terrace of the first floor. Hotel Acropolis House is located at the gates of Plaka having so the advantage of being close to all the interesting places without the disadvantage of the hustle of the people and vehicles visiting the site. It is situated in a stunning location, either for professional or tourist as it is a 10-minute walk from the monument of Acropolis and the New Acropolis Museum, 3 minutes from Syntagma Square and the metro / bus and 2 minutes from the commercial and business center of Athens. Near the hotel there are parking, museums, pharmacies and the tourist information office. The hotel has a breakfast room, which served continental style breakfast very early in the morning for early morning flights (from 07.30 Until 10.30). There is luggage storage and safe for customers. Finally, Hotel Acropolis House has a library, with a rich collection, to borrow books from. This is himself occasionally enriched by the customers. ... more   less
