This place is next to the metro and within walking distance of everything. The hotel itself is old and no big deal, but the staff is friendly and very helpful and the good location more than makes up for any shortcomings in the other departments.

We stayed for a single night and found the staff very helpful, relaxed and friendly. The room was a small double on the roof but very clean and had a good shower. There was a large terrace ouside the room which had a great view of the Acropolis. The terrace is accessible for all guests. You can almost see it in the picture - look for the conical structure on top - this is the top of the lift shaft - the terrace is in front of this. The hotel's location is excellent, walking distance from Monastiraki, Plaka and the Acropolis. The breakfast was rather good - we thought we only wanted coffee but the lovely fresh bread rolls were delicious with butter and honey. You can also have a boiled egg, bread and cheese or ham, cereals, tea, coffee and even cake etc. As with all city hotels, if you want a good night's sleep, bring some earplugs as local bars/clubs/traffic can be really noisy. Overall, it was a good little hotel with great staff and I would go back.
My wife and I stayed at the Cecil enroute to the Greek Islands, on 11th April, so time was important to us. The Cecil is centrally located, clean, quiet and friendly, a confidence booster for 3 star hotels.
We'd have no hestiation in recommending it, we were lucky enough to to get one of the rooms on the roof area and could see the Acropolis from our room.
The Cecil Hotel has location, price, cleanliness, and an elevator in its favor. We could walk to all the Athens sites and to bunches of restaurants and shopping. The rooms were old and small, but clean. Our rooms faced the street and Athens is a noisy, late city, so I wish we had asked for rooms in the back when we booked there. Also, I don't believe I've been in a smaller shower, ever, and they economize on electricity -- it was hard to get enough light to read by. I was pleased to learn that they don't add a charge for international calls from the room as long as you use the Greek toll-free number. Breakfast was included but avoidable. The open air market a block away has much better al fresco choices.
This hotel is in an excellent location to walk to the sites of Athens, and it is very close to a metro stop on the line to the airport. It is not a modern hotel, but an old neo-classical apartment building or house remodeled as a hotel. No lobby, steep steps, and an old fashioned elevator. Friendly service, great breakfast in a lovely sitting room, wonderful views, and high ceilings.
The accommodations are simple, but we found it charming and comfortable.
