I thought this hotel was great. For an Intercontinental, the prices are moderate, and the rather modest additional amount I spent for a club room was worth every penny. This hotel has a great club lounge, food available virtually all day, with full breakfast, sandwiches in the afternoon and complimentary drinks and snacks in the evening. The club features an amazing deck with panoramic views of the acropolis. The room is exactly as described by others, large, modern, sort of generic. Our bathroom was very new and all marble. Nice ammenities.

Checkin for our club room was on the 8th floor and seamless. They arranged for early checkout, and took care of booking our cab to the airport. This, I especially recommend, and the doorman made sure (by room number) that we got the cab we had booked. The fare was EU27.50 in the early morning. Do be aware that in the middle of the night cab fares double, and this could explain why some people paid so much more.

The hotel does have a complimentary shuttle to the main tourist area, which compensates for its somewhat distant location. There is also a metro stop a few blocks away, and the tram stops even closer. We actually walked to the acropolis and found it to be a doable walk in nice weather.

The only quibble, the hotel is very smokey. Every elevator lobby reeked of smoke, as did the hallways. There was no way to get away from it in the lounge other than to go out on the deck.

  • Liked — Nice big room, great club lounge.
  • Disliked — Smokey.

I went to priceline and bid $120 for a 5 star; they gave us the Athenaeum. A great value even if the hotel itself is pretty antiseptic. It's a big, clean (spotless), new, business center type convention hotel. Great big room, the really nice "Intercontinental" bed, modern bathroom (with NO shower curtain). Best front desk I've ever encountered, even though they did try to give us two double beds when we checked in. The shuttle is easy and is on-time. There is no shuttle from/to the airport and the taxi drivers sometimes will try to gouge you (don't know how you get around this; maybe agree on a price before you get in). I was thoroughly disappointed that the rooftop restaurant was closed (and was told it had been for months).

Note: the rooftop restaurant above the Athens Gate Hotel has a VERY close-up, AMAZING view of the Acropolis/Parthenon and you do not have to be staying there to take advantage of it.

I stayed at several Intercontinentals around the World, but this one is one of the best.
Great service at the desk, incredible nice room and bathroom.
Location is so so, but at least easy accessable.
I recomend this hotel.

I stayed at this hotel for a few days. The rooms were lovely and spacious. the amenities were good, staff friendly and helpful. the food served in all the restaurants was of a very high standard. Best of all for me was the SPA. I had the best facial there - the algotherm regeneration - i came away from the hotel relaxed and glowing. i would definitely stay there again.

a couple of items of note. internet acess is by wireless but is expensive if you want to have access all around the hotel.

taxis to the hotel should cost about €30 - €35 from the airport but i got charged €60 and some other people i know were charged€100 be ware. agree the price up front or make sure that they will charge by the metre.

  • Liked — big spacious rooms and comfortble beds
  • Disliked — internet charges

Stayed at the IC Athens in February 2008 and was thoroughly impressed.

The hotel has large, clean and spacious rooms with an excellent restaurant on the top floor with amazing views of the Parthenon and delicious food.
The hotel has one of the best gyms I’ve ever seen as well, with a wide range of new equipment (outdoor pool only though, closed in winter).
The location isn’t so good though, and you’ll need to take a taxi to get to the best parts of Athens (although I believe that’s pretty normal).
