The Intercontinental in Athens provided one of the most pleasant travel experiences I've had. The property was very nice:

* rooms were very large by European standards
* restaurants were varied and had great Greek wines and good food
* pool had a great set up and despite being in the middle of Athens, you felt like you were "getting away"

Key to the experience was the service though. On multiple occasions, we received warm, helpful, and above and beyond service at the property.

The location of the hotel is the only downside. To get to any of the sites you need to take a cab. Also, it is not handy to the metro system.

The property and service more than made up for the location issues though, and I'd gladly return to the property.

we stayed here while in athens during our honeymoon. Rooms were clean, the lobby huge, the staff friendly and very helpful (especially the service desk people), and the breakfast buffet (included in our package) was unbeateable--great variety and food was so fresh. Not your typical continental breakfast at all! Location wise, it was a walkable distance to Pia (for us anyways--about 20 minutes). DO NOT partake in their massage/spa--the massages that were offered were totally not worth the money!!!--perhaps one of the worst massages i've ever had for 80 euros!

I chose this hotel based on the reviews from Tripadvisor. That said, I was rather surprised at how FAR this hotel was from the city center. However, the hotel operates a shuttle every half hour to Syntagma Square which we took full advantage of. It was less than 10 minutes away. This hotels location was a blessing in disguise because it was in a beautiful rather quiet section of the city compared to some others. It is very convenient if you have a meeting at the nearby conference center. Our room was what youd expect from an Intercontinental, very comfortable, great bed, nice bathrobes. But the shower/tub was about the size of a small coffin. There was only enough room in the shower for my feet to stand side by side, it was VERY NARROW. And I am only 5'4" with small feet!
We unfortunately were only on the first floor so we did not have a view of anything other than the roof, but we didnt care because we were barely in the room at all. If a view is important to you then be sure to ask for a room on the upper floors.

The hotel lobby has pamphlets for "Chat Tours" which operates several tours, I HIGHLY recommend the 1/2 day city tour for 50 euro. Our guide was a professor of Greek Mythology and she was so passionate about the sites in Greece and the tour was informative but not boring. This tour is the easiest and fastest way to see everything and there is plenty of time to take photos. My exhausted husband and I overslept and missed our tour bus pickup from the hotel, and the hotel kindly arranged to have the shuttle drop us off at the tour bus terminal which was very nice of them. Most hotels probably would have just told us to get in a taxi.
We did not have time to use the pool but we did go see it and it looks gorgeous.
All of the concierges and front desk staff were very helpful and professional. And yes there is a very good breakfast :)

I stayed here for 6 nights on a work conference. Excellent hotel, good location, about 1 hr drive from the airport. The city centre and the beach are both easily accessible via tram system, subway system is also very easy to use and efficient.
Rooms are very clean, and spacious and comfortable. The rooftop is a must for after dinner drinks, with a great view of the Acropolis at night.
Fantastic conference facilities, and well organized. This is a luxury hotel, and it lives up to it's class. The only downside is that I believe it was a bit overpriced, even for being a 5-star hotel. Personally, I wouldn't stay here again if on my own budget, but if the cost is covered by your company or otherwise, this is a great place to be.
