We stayed in the Stanley Hotel in Athens Greece in April of 2006 and would not return there. The hotel was threadbare and the staff was not friendly until they got a tip. And then they were very friendly. The hotel is located in a seedy part of town, not near shops or restautants. It is located next to a Metro station. The Metro is clean and fast but does not have English subtitles. If one is interested in being near shops and restaurants, I would recommend finding a hotel in the area of Syntagma Square.

I recently stayed in this hotel for several nights while part of a work/study tour of Greece. Of the 7 hotels we stayed in it was one of the better ones. It is nicely appointed, the staff is friendly and helpful, and has an extremely convenient location right next to the Metaxaghiro/Karaiskaki Sq. Metro station. We found the MEtro to be immaculate, safem and very fast. In 3-4 stops you can reach the Plaka, Acropolis, Omonia Sq, or Monisitraki Sq which are some of the major tourist type destinations in the area. There is a secure ATM right around the corner. The rooftop pool/lounge area provides a rexaling time with greeat views of Athens and the Acropolis. The taxi stand on the corner of the street is helpful if you want to go somewhere not easily accessuible by Metro. The rooms are small but clean. We found that the rooms vary greatly in size and ammenities from one room to the next. The walls are extremely thin so things can get kind of noisy but there is an internal door that is good at blockin out some of the noise. The bathrooms are nice and the showers have fantastic water pressure. The buffet breakfast is one of the best we found and the downstairs bar serves good drinks but horrrible food. Kind of expensive tho...8 euros a drink in a lot of cases. I'd definetly stay there again tho...just with earplugs and my own bottle of vodka.

We spent 4 nights at the Stanley in Athens. The Metro (subway) is very easy to reach. It is right on the corner. The Stanley was very clean and the hotel staff was wonderful. I had hurt my foot earlier in the trip and needed a room with a tub and they were very helpful to meet my needs. We loved the roof top bar and pool. The view of the Acropolis was wonderful at night. We felt right at home!!

The hotel is ideal for a short stay. The hotel itself was clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The view from the rooftop restaurant is amazing and its well worth having a drink there. The rooms were spacious and the beds very comfortable. We didn't have any noise problems and we were on the front of the hotel, with our balcony having a view of the acropolis (which we asked for). Breakfast is buffet style and there is plenty to choose from. We had one evening meal in the rooftop restaurant and the waiters were very friendly and efficient and the food was scrumptious. We found this hotel very good value and a perfect location for what we wanted. It is next door to a metro station, which is very clean and safe and the trains run every few minutes. Its on a direct line to the acropolis. We'd definately stay here again.

This was my first trip to Athens. The hotel was OK overall, but the location is not close to anything of interest to me. The staff was helpfull, the room was a little noisy due to the traffic on the street, and the rooftop restaurant has a nice view of the city. The pool is not very pretty or inviting. There is an entrance to the subway right next to the hotel and the subway trains are a good way to get around the city. The subways seemed safe and clean. I plan to chose a hotel closer to the Acropolis (in the Plaka (sp?) area) on my next visit because that area has a lot of interesting Greek ruins plus it has a lot of restaurants, bars, and nightlife.
