“Location, location and location! Also price is reasonable.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2011

I and my wife went to Greece for our honeymoon last year and stayed in the Amalia Hotel in Athens. We think its location is very good and would like to recommend it to other travellers!

The biggest advantage of Amalia Hotel is its location. It's centrally located close to the Syntagma Square which is close to everywhere. You can walk to the Acropolis, the Kolonaki Square and the Plaka! Throughout our 3 days' stay in Athens, we only took the metro once! Also, you can travel to Amalia Hotel from the airport by airport bus X95. I think this is very convenient as I prefer to take airport bus compared to metro.

I cannot say the stay in Amalia Hotel is a very unforgettable or wonderful experience. But I think the hotel is clean, convenient and I was also satisfied with the breakfast. And most important, it is not expensive. For my trip in Greece, I would rather spend the money for good accommodation in Santorini or Mykonos.

Location: couldn't be better. Just off of Syntagma Square, & you can take the X95 Express Route (5 Euro one-way) to and from the airport in about 50 minutes--and the buses run 24 hours. You can also take the Metro, but they don't start running until about 6am (which was later than what we needed for our early flight). Within walking distance of all the ruins/archaeological areas, and there's a great view of the Acropolis from the rooftop gardens.
Wifi: costs 5 Euro for 24 hours. We opted to not buy it & just use the business center in the lobby.
Rooms: Big, clean, nice balcony overlooking Amalias St, tub in the bathroom.
Breakfast: the biggest selection we saw during our honeymoon trip. Everything from a yogurt bar to scrambled egg/omelet bar, tons of fruits/meats/pastries. Breakfast is served in the Mezzanine dining room which is big & bright & a great way to wake up. However, if you don't order the package that has the "Deluxe American Style Breakfast" included, it's about 17 Euro per person to eat there.
Staff: front desk staff were accomodating, but don't really bend over backwards to help you out. Dining room staff were very attentive.

Overall good hotel but would not necessarily come back as it was not a great, memorable hotel experience
Rooms are clean and fairly well-maintained, decor is standard
Service level is fine
Location was good - in the heart of town right off of Syntagma square
Breakfast was generous

The hotel was very nice and in a great location. Only 1 block from Syntagma Square which is the heart of Athens. Also only a block and a half away from the last stop of the X95 Express Bus from Athens Airport. The bus cost is 5 Euros per person and a much cheaper than any other form of transportation.

The hotel desk staff were kind of rude at times when asked a question. It seemed that we were bothering them. Especially the Concierge.

The hotel is within a few minutes walk of the Acropolis and the local flea market.

Room Tip: I have no advice on choosing a good room.

i researched the hotel alot before going to athens. got back sept 7 2011 and stayed there for two night before. its location is across the street from the famous gardens and the parliment buildings. come out the front and turn right two blocks, then right again and your in the Plaka. dont turn right to the plaka go 4 to 5 minutes, turn left and you are Zeus's temple. keep going 5 to 8 minutes passed the temple, cross the street and go left 5 minutes you are at the old olympic stadium that has been rebuilt. it housed the 1896 olympics. back at the hotel you are 30 minutes walk to the acropolis and the parthenon. the hotel is clean. the rooms are nice and small and simple with updated amenities. ask for a view of the parliment or acropolis and you wont be dissapointed.
i really like the hotel. staff were a bit bored seemingly.
the restaraunt on the 7th floor was emply of chairs etc...but the sliding doors were unlocked so we went out and took a look at the lit up acropolis which was very nice.

Room Tip: ask for front or building or right side when facing the front of the building and standing on the st...

I stayed at that hotel two nights. Nice room, quiet and clean. Actually everywhere in the hotel was really clean and enjoyable. The breakfast was excellent. Reception desk staff were ok, breakfast staff were really helpfull and smiling. Same for the doorman.

I can't think about a more convenient location as we were right in the middle of Athens major attractions. I would not risk to stay somewhere else if I returned to Athens. We were really pleased with our stay there.

By the way, you will find the same standard in the other Amalia hotels in Kalambaka, Delphes and Nafplio where we stayed as well one nignt each.
