We stayed for 3 nights in January at the Hotel Select. got a great deal of 164 Euro for the twin room with breakfast. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was at good time and plentiful. Japanese tourists were really enjoying olives, cucumber, cake, and fried eggs with soy sauce all on the same plate! Shower bath was good with hot water and good pressure. so many of these places just dribble out. There was one night about 9pm when the water stopped but we had selfishly had our baths by then. Brilliant location few minutes from the acropolis entrance and metro station. We had good weather and would definately go back out of season. would ask for a room at the front next time as a bit noisy at the back where there is a main highway.

First of all, when we arrived (we were 3 couples and a single person) we were very tired and we would like to have a bath, but to our surprise there was no water -even to wash our hands! The girl at the reception told that it was because we were on the 6th floor and we opened the taps at the same time, but that it wasn't her fault, so she could do nothing about it. Fortunatelly, the problem was not permanent.
Another problem was the parking. The hotel has no parking for cars, only for buses. They told us that there is cheap parking at the gas-station opposite the street, but when we asked the man working there, he wanted us to leave him the car keys, even though he would not be responisible for any damage or loss (there was and a written sign).
The room was clean, but the bedding was not very "well-treated". There was a cigarette hole at a blanket, and an huge ink mark on the inner side of the quilt. Besides that, we asked for a double bed and it was a huge bed with two mattresses!
There was also some noise during the night, because our rooms were at the back side, near Siggrou boulevard.
The self-service breakfast was good and it had a variety.
Finally, I want to say that it is not a terrible, nor a bad hotel, it is quite good. The reason I write all my complains is, because it is a hotel that behind the door has a price list of 176-250 Euros per day for this room and I don't think it does worth it! (We expected it to be better)

Booked prior to a Med cruise in order to see the sights - location is good for Parthenon, Plaka district and subway which is excellent, so getting around is simple. Fares are low and you can get a 24 hour pass for a small amount. Highly recommended. Accommodation is average for European Hotel, screened and covered balcony was a bonus (6th Floor) although the view was uninspiring. Breakfast which was included was way above average, in fact it was excellent. My wife and I visited from October 19th to 21st 2006 so the weather was very good, not too hot and not humid. Staff speak and understand English very well and are very helpful to guests. All in all I would stay here again if visiting Athens.

We recently stayed for 3 nights at the Acropolis Select Hotel on Falirou Street, Athens.
We had a very early flight and to make our Euros stretch a little further we took the x95 bus from the airport all the way to Syntagma square. From here we negotiated the hazards of Athenian streets (potholes, uneven slabs and cars parked full square on the pavement) on foot. If you are planning on using public transport from the airport to this hotel i would recommend the brand new metro system. It was easy to use, clean and safe. It would have taken us directly to the Akropoli (Acropolis) station which was only a five minute walk to the hotel.
My heart sank a little when we finally turned into Falirou Street. It appeared a little run-down and shabby with a half demolished building opposite the hotel. However I needn't have worried as the hotel itself was a little gem. An oasis of calm in a manically vibrant city. The reception area was smart with welcoming staff. The rooms were clean, warm and good sized for a hotel in this price-range. The buffet-style breakfast was served in the restaurant at the side of reception and offered a good choice of hot and cold food.
The hotel was also within easy walking distance of all the major classical tourist sites and the bustling Plaka shopping area and flea-market. We stayed there during the last week in November so the hotel was very quiet as were all the tourist spots. This enabled us to amble at a leisurely pace around the Acropolis, the Agora, the Plaka and so on, without being jostled and hassled by fellow sightseers. There is a bewildering array of restaurants in the nearby Plaka. However there is a lovely restaurant with a congenial host, cheekily called 'God's Restaurant' on Makrigianni street less than five minutes walk from the hotel. In addition there are also a good choice of baguette stalls and fruit shops so you can pack a handy picnic lunch. In fact a highlight of our trip was taking a picnic to the top of Filopappos hill, sitting on a bench and eating it with fabulous views of the Acropolis directly opposite and a 360 degree vista of the whole of Athens surrounding us. Whats more not one other person passed us the whole of the time we were there. The weather was very warm and sunny although you do risk some rainy days at this time of year.
All in all the Acropolis Select offers the short-breaker a convenient location and a pleasant stay at a reasonable price.

First I must say we didn't actually get to stay at this hotel. Made the booking through Orbitz and paid in full. The hotel overbooked and thus had no room for us when I arrived to check in. It was a very busy Saturday in Athens, when virtually all hotels in town were fully booked. They tried to redirect us to a hotel in the suburbs 10 miles away. When I declined to stay in the suburbs and asked for a refund - after all the main reason we chose this hotel was its location and my girlfriend was arriving late that night - the hotel refused to do so. I can understand that overbooking happens occasionally due to clerical errors, etc., but based on earlier reviews on this website it appears this hotel does it on purpose regularly. To make it worse, the staff was not up-front about the problem. Initially I was told due to a "mistake" at 8AM that day there was no room for us; then the manager claimed they had been working since 6AM to find another hotel room for me in town. Huh? Two hours before the "mistake" was even made? Then I were told that an old lady due to leave that morning had a heart attack so they couldn't force her to check out. When I asked how far away the other hotel in the suburbs was from public transit, I was told 50 meters. When I challenged that, because the brochure the clerk read from said "50 meters from the beach", the clerk said the tram runs along the beach. The other hotel is actually quite close to both the tram stop and the X96 bus stop, as I found out later through my own research, but Acropolis Select simply wanted to get rid of an irate customer and tried to lie its way through. We found lodging elsewhere on our own. After returning home I contacted Orbitz, which eventually issued me a refund (in this case Orbitz was a fourth-party, acting as a reseller of the London-based wholesaler Gulliver Travel Associates so it was a bit challenging). It seems that most people who get to stay at this hotel like it, but consider the risk of becoming the next victim of overbooking - especially if you are not part of a packaged tour group and thus considered expendable (while I struggled to get the room we had paid for, members of tour groups continued to arrive and check in).
