My husband and I stayed at the Electra Palace for a total of 6 nights in September/October 2006, broken up by visits to Mykonos and Santorini. Although rated as one, this property is not a 5 star hotel, rather a good 4 star one. The lobby is large and impressive and decorated appropriately. The first room we were given (for 4 nights) faced the street and was fairly small and cramped. The worst thing was that in the shower , the tap fixture was rather large and took up a great deal of space in the actual shower, causing the average sized person to be unable to completely turn around without sustaining bruising injuries to their midsection. In contrast our 2nd room (for 2 nights) had a large bathroom complete with bathtub and shower along with toilet and bidet. The room was far more spacious as well. These 2 rooms were the same price! We found some of the front reception staff to be very friendly and helpful, while others acted as if they could care less whatever your problem, question or concern was. All spoke quite adequate English, some only when it suited their purpose. Breakfast was included with our room price and it proved to be more than adequate. There were ample samplings of many different foods, including the standard American breakfast fare. As so many other reviewers have said, the orange juicer machine produced excellent juice - I wish I could get one for home use. The wait staff in the dining room were slow and often difficult to find. I always have double espresso and hot milk in the mornings - the milk arrived cold each morning. Otherwise, the breakfast provided a nutritious start to the day,
The pool on the 5th floor is still under a great deal of construction and we actually got stuck in the elevator going up to it. They had forgotten to put an "Out of Order" sign on it. All in all, this is a perfectly adequate hotel and very clean. We have stayed in many 5 star properties across Europe - this is just not one of them.

  • Liked — Location, great breakfasts to start the day
  • Disliked — 4 star property masquerading as a 5 star and matching 5 star prices!
  • Tips/Secrets: — Ask for a room with a bathtub - it will be larger than those with just a shower room for the same price

We were a group of 9 people- 2 couples and 5 children ranging in age from 10-19. We booked the Electra Palace after reading the other reviews on this site. The Hotel was lovely. The staff was so helpful and gracious. We had 4 different type of rooms. They were all clean. They all had very comfortable beds and beautiful bathrooms. The rooms differed in size some larger than others, the rooms are not gigantic but they didn't feel tight, some had balconies with table and chairs. The hotel has two swimming pools, they are not large, but the kids had plenty of fun. The roof pool and sun deck has the most exquisite view of the Acropolis, if you don't care about spending a bit more it is well worth the extra charge for a view from your room.
The dining room was lovely, and the buffet breakfeast was varied and delicious. They had fresh fruit in the lobby every day... The Hotel was close to everything, the location is hard to beat. We so enjoyed our stay in Athens, and this hotel really made it comfortable for us. I highly reccomend this clean, beautiful, quaint, quiet and gracious hotel.

We stayed at the Electra Palace for the last 2 nights of our Honeymoon in mid-September 2006.

The things we didn't like - the elevator! Very small with a closet-like door (tough to squeeze in 2 people with luggage!) No view- we faced the road and it was a bit noisy (scooters!)

The things we liked: lovely lobby, nice staff, elegant, well-appointed spacious room, very clean, nice rooftop jacuzzi and pool with Acropolis view, complimentary fruit basket on check in, excellent breakfast. Great location in the Plaka, walking distance to shops, restaurants and historical sites (including the Acropolis.)

We were sad to leave this hotel. We would have liked a couple more nights to enjoy our lovely room and explore more of Athens!

  • Liked — location and well appointed rooms
  • Disliked — facing the street
  • Tips/Secrets: — visit the fresh squeezed orange juice machine at breakfast!

The Electra Palace is in Plaka - THE spot to be in Athens. Wonderful service - we were upgraded to a suite instantly. Large room, great outside patio and bar. Didn't get to swim because it was too chilly, but the pool looked nice. Minutes from the Acropolis. Great value!

What a terrific spot, the hotel was lovely, clean, and in the centre of everything - we could walk anywhere, the PLAKA, acropolis, syntagma square. The staff were delightful and friendly. Free breakfast with the room was ample and delicious. We arrived so early in the morning from our flight, the rooms weren't ready, we were told to come back. When we did, they still weren't ready, so they gave us a suite upgrade N/C because they knew we were exhausted from our travels. We had booked the deluxe room with Acropolis view - well worth it - and got a suite which was beautiful. Roomy and nicely decorated with wrap around balconies as it was on a corner. View of the Acropolis and they had a lovely roof top pool area. We stayed 2 nights and would definetely stay there again. We walked all over Athens from that spot, it was so well located.
