My husband and I stayed at the Electra Palace for a total of 6 nights in September/October 2006, broken up by visits to Mykonos and Santorini. Although rated as one, this property is not a 5 star hotel, rather a good 4 star one. The lobby is large and impressive and decorated appropriately. The first room we were given (for 4 nights) faced the street and was fairly small and cramped. The worst thing was that in the shower , the tap fixture was rather large and took up a great deal of space in the actual shower, causing the average sized person to be unable to completely turn around without sustaining bruising injuries to their midsection. In contrast our 2nd room (for 2 nights) had a large bathroom complete with bathtub and shower along with toilet and bidet. The room was far more spacious as well. These 2 rooms were the same price! We found some of the front reception staff to be very friendly and helpful, while others acted as if they could care less whatever your problem, question or concern was. All spoke quite adequate English, some only when it suited their purpose. Breakfast was included with our room price and it proved to be more than adequate. There were ample samplings of many different foods, including the standard American breakfast fare. As so many other reviewers have said, the orange juicer machine produced excellent juice - I wish I could get one for home use. The wait staff in the dining room were slow and often difficult to find. I always have double espresso and hot milk in the mornings - the milk arrived cold each morning. Otherwise, the breakfast provided a nutritious start to the day,
The pool on the 5th floor is still under a great deal of construction and we actually got stuck in the elevator going up to it. They had forgotten to put an "Out of Order" sign on it. All in all, this is a perfectly adequate hotel and very clean. We have stayed in many 5 star properties across Europe - this is just not one of them.
