“Great Hotel Super Views”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2014

Was on a business trip to Athens and stayed at this hotel in Plaka region of Athens, on arrival with my colleagues we were informed we had been upgraded to top floor suites. These were very very nice with views of the Parthenon which in the evening was lite up and looked stunning. We ate in the Hotel on the final night and the food was exquisite and as they were running a special price for people staying in the hotel it was very reasonable too.
Reception staff excellent as were all the waiters and waitresses etc. Will definitely stay here again when visiting my office in Athens

Room Tip: ry and get a top floor suite for the views, although there are views from every room.

Very nice hotel! Friendly personnel, relatively cheap (in April, however-- not sure about the prices in the high season). Great terrasse and a roof-top restorer and swimming pool. Excellent situation nearby Acropole.

Unbelievable! Arrived at the hotel after a 14-hour flight, at 2am, and we were told they had "technical difficulties" and no room available. This is after I had called the night before to say that we will be arriving late. They put us back into our taxi and sent us to some motel-level place outside the Plaka, with a bare-bones room, no gym, no pool. We booked a "five star" hotel for a reason - this was our 4th anniversary celebration trip - and this was definitely not ok.

There was no offer of compensation or refund, even after I complained to the booking agency. We holiday at least three times a year and this was the first time that something like this happened. We had such an amazing experience at every other hotel we stayed at in Greece (see my reviews of Avli Lounge in Crete and Asteras Villas in Santorini). We will definitely go back to Greece, but never again to Electra Group hotels. One word - rotten.

My room was decent size with a cool view of the Acropolis. Not a 5 star, probably not quite a 4 star either. Two things firmly plant this in the 4 star category: location and service. Location is very convenient and the customer service was exceptional.

I highly doubt it if anyone can find a hotel with a better location than Electra palace in Athens. The hotel is in the center of Plaka close to many Cafes and elegant restaurant in one hand , on the other hand near to many historic sites. 3 minutes walking distance to Ermo street and shopping area. The staff were super friendly. For the first night we had some noise from outside so they upgraded our room to a triple facing Acropolis. I loved the breakfast, what ever you name it was there on their buffet list.

We only stayed in this hotel for 1 night in Athens. We really enjoyed the area. It is clean & felt extremely safe. You can walk to the Acropolis in less than 6-7 minutes, and the hotel has a wonderful restaurant (although a tad pricey) on the rooftop that is definitely worth the $$ and has AMAZING views of the Acropolis. Go at night, they light it up and it is stunning. The bed was very comfortable and the room (as well as the lobby) was clean with beautiful decor. They also offer free breakfast in the mornings (even though we left too early to enjoy it so I can't comment on the quality) The staff was very helpful, called us a taxi the night before so that it was waiting for us at 5am the next morning so we were on time to the airport. We would most definitely stay here again if ever in Athens!

Lets start with the good stuff - or even the great stuff:

1. The view - we had a balcony room (519) and the view of the Acropolis is just amazing. Morning, evening, night it is one of the most spectacular views anywhere in the world!
2. The location is good for walking the area around the Acropolis. There are lot of great cafes and restaurants in the neighbourhood and it seems very safe.
3. The restaurant staff at breakfast were superb - they were so helpful.

The disappointments include:
1. The bed was dreadful, so soft I kept rolling off it (I have never had this problem before). The pillows were also useless and I had to fold them double to get any sort of support.
2. There is no air-con - can you believe that? The temperature during the day is around 20C but the air-con blows hot air because it is "winter" and the central air-con blows either hot or cold air. During "winter" it only blows hot air. The hotel suggest you open the doors to get cool air but the street is quite noisy you you can't sleep.
3. Wi-fi is EUR 10 per day - they tell you there is free internet in the public areas only it doesn't work.

So, all in all I would probably look for another hotel just because the bed was so bad and the lack of air-con during the "winter". As shame because the views are stunning, but I guess there are other hotels with great views also.

Room Tip: Get a balcony room - it is worth paying for the view.
