I would have to agree with the previous couple of reviews. Unless you are in a decent room, you will be disappointed.

The standard rooms are a bit dull and lacking space, also if you book a triple room be aware that they only have two beds and a sofa bed. I telephoned the Hotel before making the booking and was told that some triple rooms had three beds. No they don't. Eventually, we got upgraded to a Junior Suite, still a sofa bed but much more spacious.

Pros - great location, rooftop pool with views (can get busy, only nine sun loungers but also tables and chairs), indoor pool, garden off the bar and breakfast room, lovely spacious lobby, very efficient bell hops, good housekeeping.

Cons - restaurant closed on Sundays (in a 5* hotel !), breakfast adequate with hot food only warm, some rooms should be of a higher standard, generally small balconies, front desk could have been more efficient (with my complaint), frosted glass bathroom doors (we are a close family but please !)

The rooftop pool with the view of the Acropolis and the shaded garden are a real bonus. If these are not important to you, I think better value can be found elsewhere.

  • Liked — Location, rooftop pool with view of Acropolis
  • Disliked — Some rooms not up to standard

We had walked past the Electra Palace when we first arrived in Athens. After going to three of the Islands, we came back and stayed for 4 nights. The location is fabulous. You can walk to all major attractions. Fellow at the front desk was very friendly. We had 2 rooms on the 4th floor and they were very nice. Pool can get a bit crowded. Most of the employees were great. Would definitely stay there again if I was in Athens. View from pool area at night is fabulous.

  • Liked — The view, pool and location.
  • Disliked — Girl at front desk helped other adults before assisting my daughter even tho she was in line before the other adults.

We spent one night here on a whirlwind trip through Athens. It's perfectly situated for sightseeing and the staff was helpful about telling us what not to miss. The common rooms are gorgeous, the breakfast expansive, and the view from the rooftop bar and pool, spectacular. There was a wedding reception about to take place the evening we visited--couldn't imagine a lovelier site! The bed was too firm for my taste, but maybe that's a European preference.

The Electra Palace is a luxury hotel in the heart of Plaka. The room we stayed in was immaculate, and we had a perfect view of the Acropolis. This hotel offers a rooftop pool and a rooftop restaurant (the roof is multi-level) that also offer amazing views of the Acropolis. Word of warning about the pool: there is a shaded area by the pool, but it was mostly occupied while we were there. If you sunburn easily, factor that in.

Two other things stood out about this hotel: the interior decoration and the breakfast. The interior decor consists of dark woods, brass, and a lot of Greek art. At times, we felt like we were staying in a Greek palace and not a hotel (Electra Palace is appropriately named, in other words). Second, the breakfast was impressive considering it was complimentary. There is an option to eat in an outdoor courtyard, and even in a gazebo located in the courtyard. Again, this added to the palacial atmosphere.

One thing to note: during our stay we noticed there were several couples who were on their honeymoon. Apparently, this hotel is a popular honeymoon location.

As far as location, this hotel is located in the heart of Plaka. The area constitutes the "old town" of Athens and is home to countless restaurants, cafes, and tourist shops. Additionally, the Acropolis is within walking distance (Bring a hat: there is no shade and little opportunity to cool off at the top. Plus, if the cruise ships are in the lines to get to the top are very crowded and slow.).

Overall: the location is perfect and the hotel is immaculate.

The Electra Palace was supposed to be a 5 star hotel but we have had better accommodation and food in lesser starred hotels.

Having read the reviews before we booked our 3 night stay, I phoned to tell them we would like a quiet room with an Acropolis view, not at the rear where there were noisy aircon units. Sadly, we were a late arrival and our room turned out to be a shoebox right by the lift, at the rear, with no Acropolis view.

Our room had comfortable twin beds with good linen and the aircon was very efficient. The bathroom was small and it was difficult to access the bath taps as they were in the shower recess. We had a small problem with the room safe which would not open. I phoned reception about this and after 20 minutes went down to reception to find out why no-one had come to the room. A few minutes later someone came with a machine to open the safe. He failed. Apparently, the battery in the safe had expired and needed to be replaced. This was done and the safe finally opened. From the time I first phoned reception, it took almost an hour to get the safe open. Good thing we were not in a hurry.

Breakfast was a great disappointment. All the covers for the hot food were left lying open. When I tried to close them, one of the breakfast staff told me not to do this. She said the food was hot enough. It wasn't. We reported this to the manager who said they would speak with the staff about this. On Morning 2, the hot food was again lying open and cold. We again spoke with the manager who said he would have a meeting with staff. On Morning 3, every hot food container was again lying open. The food was cold.

We were looking forward to a romantic dinner in the rooftop restaurant with views of the Acropolis but it was closed for redecoration. No mention of this on the hotel's website when we booked.

I would not choose to stay at this hotel again or recommend it to friends despite its very favourable position for sightseeing in Athens.
