This hotel was just ok to me. The rooms were fine but a bit dated. Our air conditioner would not work. I would suggest finding a resturant to eat instead of eating at the hotel unless your able to claim it on an expense report. The food is very pricey! We paid 15 Euro for strawberries and whip cream and it was about 6 Euro for a can of coke. Do not buy water or soft drinks from the hotel, instead visit the kiosik one block away as it is a lot cheaper!!

I'll start off by saying that the Metropolitan Hotel is not near any of the tourist sites, so I do not recommend the hotel if you are only visiting Greece for a few days. We stayed at the hotel for the final night of our honeymoon, where we took advantage of the special "honeymoon/romance" package, which included complimentary dinner for 2 and a welcome fruit basket with wine. Our room was beautiful (huge balcony, definitely 5 star material) and the food at the restaurant was delicious; however, this is not the hotel to stay at if looking to visit the Acropolis and other historic sites.

We spent 2 nights at the Metropolitan prior to our tour of Greece and 2 nights after the tour and to call this a 4-5 star Hotel is really overstating the facts. The Hotel is designed to cater for the hundreds of tourists that are accommodated there by various tour companies - Siva Travel even has a desk in the foyer.

The rooms are very small and poorly appointed and if you are there on business you'll find the business centres 2 computers and nothing else somewhat of a let down. I found the front office staff to be very non-communicative and and somewhat rude. The staff in the restaurant and bar area were very much better. The shuttle service into town is fine if you are one of the lucky ones to fit on the bus on the return journey. If not then you'll have to wait another hour or catch a taxi back to the hotel.

The hotel is not modern; is not well appointed; is not worthy of even 2 and half stars and if I ever travel back to Greece I certainly wouldn't stay there again.

  • Liked — There wa nothing to like
  • Disliked — Sleeping with my wife in a very small room with 2 single beds pushed together.

We stayed at the Metropolitan for 5 nights in April and after reading some of the reviews on TA I was rather apprehensive! We were in Athens as my husband was there on business and so the hotel reservation was booked by the company in Athens.

On arrival I was expecting the worst but got, while not quite the best, a really enjoyable stay. The hotel staff I found to be pleasant and courteous. The customer service is perhaps not quite what you may expect in other European cities but I quite liked that fact that you were left alone and didn't have waiting staff appearing at your table every 5 minutes. There was a particularly pleasant and helpful older gentleman on the reception desk who went to some trouble to help me find a pair of scissors! Furthermore, I am allergic to feather pillows and upon informing the reception desk there were new pillows on the bed when we returned to our room later that day. I thought the staff were great!

Breakfast in the hotel would satisfy everyone - there was a great selection. I particularly loved the strawberry yoghurt and great coffee, if you like it strong! Other than breakfast we never ate in the hotel although on our last evening we had a couple of drinks from the bar and got quite a shock when the bill arrived. Be prepared for quite a hike in price if you do choose to eat or have a few drinks.

Our room was spotless and although not large, it served the purpose of having somewhere to lay your head after a hectic, but wonderful, day in Athens.

Overall we had a great experience in the Metropolitan and were definitely pleasantly surprised!

We checked in at the Metropolitan hotel last March 2008 to celebrate my birthday in Athens, and i had the WORST ever hotel service in my life! And to think that Metropolitan hotel is a 5star hotel! I'm just wondering if the company ever train their staff on how to handle or even talk to their guests? Never there was even a single staff greeted us good morning or hello. Never did they smile even if we smiled at them. Scary staff! Very rude! I was talking to them in English, but I suppose they did not understand me because they were speaking to me in Greek, which I did not understand either. I'm just wondering how your staff ever communicate with your guests? If the hotel wants to maintain their 5-star-category, they better be careful with their staff. Ever heard of Customer Service Satisfaction? I guess not.
