“Great Location And Service!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2013

The Herodion Hotel was the start and finish of our three weeks in Greece. After the long flight from LAX we were so happy we booked this hotel. A sincere friendly greeting, delicious dinner, fantastic balcony view and comfortable bed made it perfect. The breakfast is also very good. A wide variety of fresh fruits, cereals, juices, eggs three ways, ham, sausages, pastries, etc. We stayed two nights to unwind and enjoy the nearby sightseeing before venturing on to Crete.
A special thanks to Mr. "V" and Pita at the front desk. They were so happy to answer any questions about local attractions, ferry schedules and even where I could purchase a notebook as I forgot my journal at home. It was obvious they love their job and appreciated our business.
This is a five star hotel. First impressions are everything! It is in a very quiet, clean upscale part of the city as compared to the busier Plaka area. The entrance is very nice. We were greeted at the door and our bag was immediately taken from us at the sidewalk and brought to our room. Any need was promptly taken care of.
After three weeks on the islands we returned for our last night and they remembered us.....by name!
I did read other reviews about the school noise. It didn't bother us. The children start around 8:30. We were already up getting ready for the day.
I highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Request the third floor nearest to the new museum. The view of the lit Acropolis at night is awesome...

We had a significant birthday to celebrate and so were looking for a celebratory weekend in Athens. The four of us stayed at the Herodian Hotel and it was excellent. We had great, quiet rooms at the back of the hotel (from which we could see the Acropolis). The roof top terrace had perfect views and was great for an early evening drink.

The situation is very handy, a few minutes walk to the main sites.

The staff behind the desk were helpful and tolerant (and spoke excellent English).

It is a good place.

Won't repeat how good the location is of this hotel, and yes the staff are lovely. however the lift makes a "clunk" noise. Clearly the cables are hitting on something. It's ok during the day, but at night we could hear it. It's like a haunted house with chains dragging. So if yiu stay here, request. Ro om far from the lift. I me tioned it to a staff member, but notng was done.

The mattresses are as hard as lying on the floor. When I told the housemaid, she said it was some special coconut matting. I don't know what it was, but it was rock hard.

Everything else was fine. Would I stay here again, I don't think so.

Thank you for communicating your impressions from your stay. I am truly sorry to hear that you felt a lack of effort on the part our receptionist to explain to you that one of our lifts is right now under restoration for a few hours everyday and its maintenance is due at the end of this week. It was indeed a problem of annoying noise but of minor technical importance. Secondly, I have taken the liberty and made a note about the bedding options on your guest profile, that next time you stay we will be glad to have another feather mattress topper on the bed for you to soften your bed and suit your preferences. All the beds of the hotel are made by COCO-Mat, a leader for natural sleep products in Europe. Our beds comprise of a three layer system of a bed base, mattress and topper all with natural materials like natural rubber , completely metal free to offer you comfort, elasticity and support. Again, I appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and I hope we will have the opportunity to welcome you back sometime soon. Now that we know, the next time you are with us you will have a nice fluffy bed waiting for you. I hope to hear from you soon!

What a gem of a hotel in the heart of the city. The property is a family run business that sits below the breathtaking site of the Acropolis. I stayed at the hotel for 7 days and found it to be ideally located to everything of interest in Athens. The staff goes out of the way to make your stay welcome and takes pride in the establishment, which is rare to come across in these days. The rooms and the common areas are well attended to. The hotel has a terrace garden and jacuzzi open to perhaps one of the best viewing areas for the Acropolis. It has a remarkable breakfast, lunch and dinner menu for a hotel this size. You will not regret your stay here if you are looking for location, comfort and value for your money.

Room Tip: Choose a room on the top floors facing the Acropolis - you will take the memory with you.

The location for this hotel can't be beat! It is so close to the plaka without being in the middle of it all and the acropolis/acropolis museum are just around the corner. Make sure that you visit the roof deck in the evening to look at the acropolis lit up and at the top floor of the acropolis museum, which you have a great view into! The roof deck is wonderful!

The rooms and the lobby are clean and nicely decorated. My first room had a balcony that overlooked the street - the doors were thick enough to block out the noise and the curtains are thick enough to block out the light. My second room's bathroom was very small and everything almost hit one another. The beds were also comfortable as well. Also there was a lot of choices for breakfast and it was quite tasty!

There were some things I did not like about the hotel though were the fact that you had to pay to use the hot tubs on the roof deck (5 Euro for 15 minutes?!) and wifi was 5 Euro for 24 hours. I feel for paying at a hotel, wifi should be included. For my friends that did purchase the wifi, it only worked in the lobby. The staff was nice enough but I wouldn't say there were overly welcoming.

I would stay here again simply for the location even though there are some improvements that could be made.

Room Tip: Get a balcony if you can and a big bathroom!

We stayed for three nights in April. It was the perfect location for seeing the sites as that was our main reason to stay in Athens. They stored our luggage for us at no charge while we traveled around. Although you have to pay extra for internet and also for the jaquzzi I felt that they were both worth the charge.
The rooftop is wonderful at nighttime after a busy day. Comfortable chairs and a great view.

We just left Athens this morning, and I must say, this hotel had a fantastic location. It has a lovely rooftop for lounging with a great view of the Parthenon, and while facing the Acropolis, to the right one can look over and see the new Acropolis museum. This hotel was in an excellent location, right close to the Akropoli metro station, a short jaunt to the Plaka district, the Acropolis, Hadrian's Arch, Temple of the Olympian Zeus, and the Parliament.

This is a fairly basic hotel in terms of rooms - and if you are from Canada or the US you are going to find the rooms to be quite small (this seems to be standard in Europe, however).

Upon arrival, we were greeted by the front desk staff, who were quite nice and very informative. They were exceedingly helpful for our stay, and gave directions, checked the weather forecast for us, and so on. The only thing I found to be in a bit poor taste was on arrival they offer to "upgrade" the room you've booked to one with a view of the Partnenon for an extra 15 Euro. I found it to be a bit of a pain, and not something that I would consider worth the price, as the view from the roof is spectacular, and much nicer than sitting in the room!

The breakfast was a fabulous spread, with a little bit of something for everyone - eggs, bacon, coffee, pastries, juice, and so on. The serving staff in the restaurant were fantastic and pleasant. The bartender in the lobby bar was the only staff member we ran into that could be a bit more pleasant - but we were just there to get a bottle of wine to enjoy on the roof, so perhaps he warms up to people as they sit in the bar.

This hotel is easily accessible from the metro - I know as a budget traveler who loves to overpack (code for: heavy suitcase) with a husband who doesn't overly enjoy having to drag all of my luggage farther than required, this was a great feature. From the airport, the metro is easily accessible. Be sure to validate your ticket before going down the escalator - the fines are quite steep for failing to do so. The train runs from the airport every half hour, and 3 minutes past (so 3 minutes past the hour and 33 minutes past as well). From the airport, ride the train to the Syntagma stop. There, exit the train, and go up one level to the red line train. Take the red line only one stop to the Akropoli station. Disembark, and head out the right hand exit (NOT the one with a sign indicating the Acropolis, or you will be doing as we did and taking the long, and uphill way around!!). Once out of the metro, go right, and then right again. The hotel is only 1.5 blocks away and is easily walkable in under 5 minutes. The metro ride from the airport to the hotel is approximately 35 minutes, give or take.

For return to the airport by metro, be sure to get the special 8 Euro ticket. Then, take the red line train back one stop to Syntagma, disembark, go down one level, and get on the blue line train. Unless you are on the one train that does run all the way to the airport, you will have to disembark at Douk. Plakentias and then wait for the airport train (wait time will be indicated on signage).

Overall, this hotel was great for easy access to most everything you might want to see in Athens, and an absolute must if you are only there for a short time. The location made it easy for us to see everything we wanted to in our one day in the city with time to spare.

The beds are comfortable, the hotel is basic, but clean, and the breakfast is good! Along with helpful staff, and great location, this hotel was a good pick - I can't think of what else we would have needed!

Thank so much for the high praise of Herodion and your positive comments for our roof top terrace, " fabulous" breakfast, "excellent" location and informative staff. We would like to point out though after a careful follow-up,we saw that in your case, at the moment of your check-in there was a last-minute cancellation of a room with a view and the front desk staff proposed this alternative with a discount, as these rooms are usually booked seriously ahead in time with a higher premium.

We really try hard through our team's professionalism to set us apart from the other fine hotels in Athens and we will definitely pass on your comment about the bar staff member's perceived attitude. Thank you for your endorsement and we consider your last comment of "I can't think of what else we would have needed!" as kind appreciation.
