“Lovely hotel - incredible rooftop overlooking the Acropolis”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2011

Stayed at the Herodion in May 2011. There were three separate rooms in my party, all well attended to. Bathrooms were large and very clean by European standards, lobby was very nice. The rooftop was incredible. The lobby bar will serve food and drink on the roof, but you can also just sit and read or socialize. There is also a hot tub that I did not try.

The location is pretty perfect. Right below the Acropolis, but slightly away from the hullabaloo of the Plaka neighborhood. Breakfast was pretty good. Front desk was helpful in calling taxis when needed, door man was super helpful.

This was my third or fourth stay at the Herodion. originally booked at their other hotel phillipos, staff kind enough to upgrade us to the herodion. Location is excellent in athens, good for exploring monastiraki/plaka/syntagma (all within walking distance). views of the acropolis. acropolis metro stop two blocks away. drink/snack kiosk across the street and cafes/bars/restaurants around the block. breakfast has big selection and good. only downside if any is the hotel may need an update/refurb in the next couple of years.

We stayed at the Herodion for one night before a 3 day Olympia/Delphi bus trip, then 2 further nights afterwards. Tiny lift, but helpful polite staff and comfortable room. I asked for an upgrade room with Acropolis views which we didn't get, but really it is not needed. There are fabulous views into the New Acropolis museum (virtually next door) and up to the Acropolis from the rooftop garden and one is really only in the room to shower and sleep. Breakfast is more than adequate with hot and cold food choices and nice juices. The computers (pay by use time) are very slow in the foyer. Staff efficiently stored our luggage on the last day and called taxis promptly. The hotel is in a quiet area, very close to the Acropolis entry point, New Acropolis museum and only a short walk to the Plaka. Although we were in Athens soon after the protests, we never felt at all unsafe. A perfect place to end our Greek holiday.

Room Tip: Who cares about the view from the room? Everyone can access the rooftop view at any time.

The hotel has a great location, just next to the new acopolis museum. In 5 minutes you are at the Acrolpolis, allowing to pass by the hotel after the visit for a refreshing shower.
Breakfast was rich and good buffet, included. At the last floor there is a terrace with a great view on the Acropolis and two swimming pool you can rent for 5 euros.
Rooms are a little old fashioned, but clean and silent. Personnel good and nice.

2 minute walk from the Akropoli metro stop (Athens metro is VERY easy to use). Adjacent to the new acropolis museum. Less than 5 minutes to the acropolis. Close to the Plaka.

Nice roof-top terrace with great views of the acropolis - especially at night when the lights come on.

Good breakfast.

Rooms are fine. Nice restaurant. Friendly, helpful staff.

My only criticism is that internet access is spotty and very pricey (USD 10/day, 2 euro for 30 minutes). In this day and age good internet access ought to be a given, particularly in an upscale hotel.

If you are going to Athens for a holiday, the chances are the Acropolis is one of the things on the top of your list. This hotel has an excellent location, the 4 and 5th floor terrace and spa look straight to this wonderful monument. The view at night, from either a lounge chair on the terrace or in the spa is memorable. Its located right next to the very worthwhile New Acropolis museum. If you want a 5 star room, this hotel will not suit you. If you want 5 star service and location, then it will. The rooms are the usual European small size, but this should be measured by the price you pay for the room anyway. The staff are efficient and very friendly, nothing seems to be a problem for them. We found the breakfast (included) to be pleasant and with a good variety. The 2 hop on hop off buses both have stops 100m down the road the hotel is located on, as well as many restaurants and small tavernas. You can easily walk to the plaka area and Syntagma square.
I stayed in a room with my 2 teenage sons, in hindsight maybe 2 rooms would have been a better option BUT it depends how much time you plan to stay in the room. Athens has so much to offer that I really didn't find it that much of an inconvenience.
The only small annoyances is a 5 euro per day charge for wireless Internet and to use the spa, but considering Greece's considerable economic crisis (which the talk about ALL day) maybe its understandable. A very good experience, I would definitely stay again.

This was the last hotel in my two-week stay in the region. Could not have found a better hotel for its location - next door to the Acropolis Museum and within walking distance to the Acropolis, the Theater of Dionysia and the tourist area with shops and restaurants. My only complaint - there was no free wifi - not even in the very lovely and comfortable common areas. Out of the five hotels I stayed in on this trip, The Herodion Hotel is the only one not offering free wifi.
