“Enjoyable meal away from main tourist zone”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2012 via mobile

We had a pleasant family meal here. The food was traditional and good and the atmosphere was relaxed with fairly basic decor. Staff were competent and accommodating. Worth going for a laid back lunch or dinner. It's off the beaten track so not too busy but there is a motorway nearby so it's by no means idyllic.

“A little slice of Greek life”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2012

We visited here twice as it is quite close to the hotel we stayed in. We were delighted to meet a Greek gentleman born in Athens who took time to talk with us. Also I noticed so many local people eating here and I just followed suit and ordered what the locals were having.

Excellent place to eat- good selection of hot locally cooked dishes and selection of salads all reasonably priced.

“delightful host & good food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2012

We had dinner here last week and went back for souvlaki to go the next day. Loved that it was not as touristy as many other places we visited. The owner sat behind us quietly all night then had our waiter bring us dessert on the house. We ordered three dishes and ate family style -- this place was perfect for that. Good food, nice atmosphere, nice people.

“Great taverna food, not tourist fare”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2012

My wife and I ate at Ambrosia three times in April and May 2012 during our month long trip around Greece. We kept coming back because it was one of the most reliable traditional Greek tavernas we found in our travels. Every dish we ordered was good; sometimes great. In the latter category, I would include the lamb chops. These were the best we had anywhere in Greece, out of quite a few tavernas and restaurants. The tomatoes in the salads were particularly succulent and sweet. The eggplant meze, with feta, was superb. So was the spanikopita. The soups are also unusually good; we had the lentil. Delicious! And the roast pork was quite simply amazing. All this for really low prices.
You really can't go wrong at this place. It is not at all touristy. It is located a few blocks south of the Acropolis, in a quieter, residential, non-tourist neighborhood. Because it caters to locals, its popularity and longevity is based not simply on one-night tourist trade, but on repeat business. The locals like it. So will you.
