“Boutique Gem within view of Acropolis”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2013

Dining at the Athens Gate Hotel Rooftop terrace while gazing at the Acropolis as the sun sets and the lights come on is magical. And the Acropolis is still there in the morning for a great start to your day. This is a wonderful hotel with helpful staff, great location, and small, but very well appointed rooms and comfortable bed. Yes, it's on a busy street that is not always quiet, but it's Athens and you have the Acropolis as your dining view! Does it get any better?

We stayed here on our final night of our honeymoon. With one day in Athens, we wanted a convenient location to see the sights. Definitely got that with the Athens Gate.

Price was excellent, and the included breakfast on the gorgeous roof deck was beyond impressive. Room was definitely small, but to be expected in a big city. We were upgraded to a scenic room for our honeymoon, and were given a bottle of wine and fruit, which was a nice touch.

Elevators were kind of crazy-we are from NYC and these were far smaller than anything we have seen in the city.

No real frills, but that's not what we were looking for during our stay in Athens.

All in all, great value for price, awesome location, solid choice!!

Room Tip: Try and get a room facing the Temple of Zeus-very cool view!

We had a great stay at the Athens Gate for a few days in Sept. 2013. The location was easy to get to -- using the Metro from the airport; the rooms were decorated beautifully, and the breakfast and view from the rooftop garden are beyond compare!

Unlike many of the reviewers here, we did not find the room tiny. We are Americans and thought the room size to be more than adequate. Lovely showers and great, powerful A/C after the hot days exploring the city.

Very conveniently located to the Plaka, the Acropolis, the Temple of Zeus and the metro station.

Highly recommend.

The location of the hotel is absolutely excellent in the very centre of Athens with fantastic views of the Acropolis and the Temple of Zeus. Very good service, nice rooms (even if a bit small) and excellent breakfast. Only problem is tha lack of free Wi-Fi in the rooms.

When we arrived to Athens gate we were welcomed by a very enthusiastic front desk and luggage carrier. Both spoke very good English, and gave us a rundown of how things operate in the hotel as well as good places to eat and visit with directions. The rooms are small compared to US standards but they were so clean and nicely decorated that it surely made up for it. Our balcony overlooked the Temple of Zeus Olympian and was in the perfect spot to walk the city. Just remember your street name because we got lost at night wandering and needed a taxi to get back.

This is my second stay at this hotel in Athens. I was there last year around the same time. This visit was just as good as the first!
This hotel has a fantastic location to the Acropolis, the Plaka, and the Parliment building where you can watch the changing of the guards.
It is a 10 minute walk to the Parliment, 2 minutes to the Plaka and about 5 minutes to the Acropolis. The staff is very warm and helpful. The rooms are not huge but very clean and COOL during the hot weather. The best asset is the breakfast on the top of the building. It is the best view in town with a great breakfast.
Our group was headed to the Greek Isles on a cruise and the cab ride to the Piraeus port is only about 10 minutes. If you are going on a cruise, just get a cab from the hotel. It's a lot cheaper.

Room Tip: Need to get an upper floor to get a bigger room and if you want the good views from your room you mu...

The hotel is located very close to the Acropolis. Staff is very friendly but the rooms are really, really small. We are small people, we had two small suitcases and we could barely move around the room without bumping onto something. Rooms are clean, but not very quiet. I could hear the traffic quite loud on the background. We had a very short stay less than 18 hours. We had to leave before breakfast started, but they had prepared a small bag with sandwiches, juice and fruit for our trip. The building is old, lobby is ok. free wifi in the lobby. If you are going to stay in Athens for more than a day you probably want to stay somewhere more comfortable.
