“Comfortable, convenient, practical, overall excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2011

This is the second time we visit this property. We now live in Peloponnese for this winter only and our travel style is one of experiences, sightseeing and cultural perspective. We need hotels which are practical and convenient and uncompromising in the amenities and quality of service which they offer for one who wishes to enjoy themselves. Frankly, Athens as a city is a disparate place with no rhyme or reason to its structure and planning, probably for valid historic reasons, and if not for its classical historic significance for our western culture, it would not have been worth visiting at all.

The location of the hotel is excellent in that it offers access to a variety of shopping, viewing and simply strolling through old Athens. It is close to the Acropolis rock, and easy walking distance to all important museums and sights of Athens. Although immediately adjacent to the busiest avenue of central Athens, good acoustic insulation overcomes that impediment. It is very easy to reach by public transit from the International Airport and also easy to access other non walkable destinations with the nearby tram or underground just behind the hotel. If you must drive, as is normal for Athens, this is a disastrous attempt to reach the hotel; even the GPS becomes confused in the narrow streets of Athens leading to the hotel or going out of the hotel. Good luck with driving in Athens!!! Parking is also torturous although the hotel offers about six parking spaces for very small cars upon reservation.

The physical amenities are all properly in place and in working condition. We found nothing out of order. As is usual in Europe, rooms are smallish by North American standards but absolutely clean and in excellent condition. The bed is firm and comfortable. The smallish desk is functional but it would have been better if the TV was placed on the wall and liberate some space on the desk. The closet is adequate and the fridge well stocked and operating. Internet service is available in two ways but it is impractical if you need to avail yourself of the free offering in the lobby through the hotel computers. Wireless or Ethernet in the room is unreasonably expensive particularly in a country which is very competitively priced in its wireless communications. The roof restaurant also bar also breakfast room has spectacular view of Athens and is served by competent personnel; beware that Stella at breakfast time will remember you even if you come again three years later!!! Similarly the front desk and the concierge boys are accommodating and knowledgeable.

This is a rare find in Greece where promises are incompatible with offerings in big cities. The price level is attractive and corresponds to the value received or even more attractive than most. There will be no opulence in the lobby, no grandiose room setting or spa or Jacuzzi etc. We were here to enjoy Athens not buy the hotel and the hotel made our life easy and enjoyable. STRONGLY RECOMMENDED.

Great hotel for a 4 night stay in Athens. Perfectly placed around the corner from the Akropolis metro station, near the new Acropolis Museum and entrance to the South part of the Acropolis site. Our room was clean, modern and well appointed. From the balcony we had views of both the Acropolis and the Temple of Zeus (which we didn't pay extra for). The 8th floor restaurant had even better views and served a good buffet breakfast. All the staff were helpful and friendly and an email I sent before arrival was answered promptly with the information I requested. Good day trips with a reputable operator were easily bookable at reception. Good value. Everything I could have hoped for.

Room Tip: Rooms on the back are away from the traffic but the early morning rubbish collections could be quiet...

The Hotel was as centtrally located as possible. The view of the Acropolis from the Roof Garden was awesome. Easy walking distance to the Acropolis, the museum, Temple of Zeus and the center of town. The On-Off bus stop was 1 block away and the Plaka is right behind the hotel. The staff was friendly and even offered to make a a breakfast to go since we left as the restaurant was open. The buffet breakfast was very special.

Just returned from Athens visiting our Son and family who live there, had a wonderful stay at The Athens Gate made even more special by the warm welcolm of all the staff. Lovely rooms and breakfast room has great views of Acropolis and Temple of Zues. The hotel is ideal for getting around Athens by walking metro or bus. This was our third stay at the hotel and shall be returning next year.

Room Tip: Higher floors have less road noise

We stayed 3 nights in the Athens Gate at the end of October prior to a cruise. The hotel is a perfect, boutique hotel. We were promptly greeted, and John, the bellman, not only took our bags to our room, he explained what we could see from the room (Temple of Zeus view), and what to see and do in the city. We got directions to the Acropolis/Museum...a 5 minute walk away.

The room was a good size, very clean. While we were on the side of the main road and there was traffic noise, it did not keep us from sleeping.

Their morning breakfast was terrific, and the view of the Acropolis from the restaurant is breath-taking.

The wireless was a little hard to use, as it had a limited number of connections, so you could not get on when lots of people were using it.

My only complaint is to not take their advice for local restaurant. We went and it was a tourist trap which had expensive prices and poor food/service.

Super hotel! Well recommended.

Room Tip: The Acropolis side is quieter, but lower floors don't have as nice a view.

We stayed 3 nights in this superbly located hotel - a beautiful10 minute walk & you're at the Acropolis Museum or a little further, and you're at the entrance to the Acropolis. The restored Plaka district is fascinating. Breakfast or dinner from the rooftop terrace was extraordinary - we looked either to the Temple of Zeus of the Parthenon. The service was professional and wonderful, the rooms were spacious and very comfortable.
