This is the second time we visit this property. We now live in Peloponnese for this winter only and our travel style is one of experiences, sightseeing and cultural perspective. We need hotels which are practical and convenient and uncompromising in the amenities and quality of service which they offer for one who wishes to enjoy themselves. Frankly, Athens as a city is a disparate place with no rhyme or reason to its structure and planning, probably for valid historic reasons, and if not for its classical historic significance for our western culture, it would not have been worth visiting at all.
The location of the hotel is excellent in that it offers access to a variety of shopping, viewing and simply strolling through old Athens. It is close to the Acropolis rock, and easy walking distance to all important museums and sights of Athens. Although immediately adjacent to the busiest avenue of central Athens, good acoustic insulation overcomes that impediment. It is very easy to reach by public transit from the International Airport and also easy to access other non walkable destinations with the nearby tram or underground just behind the hotel. If you must drive, as is normal for Athens, this is a disastrous attempt to reach the hotel; even the GPS becomes confused in the narrow streets of Athens leading to the hotel or going out of the hotel. Good luck with driving in Athens!!! Parking is also torturous although the hotel offers about six parking spaces for very small cars upon reservation.
The physical amenities are all properly in place and in working condition. We found nothing out of order. As is usual in Europe, rooms are smallish by North American standards but absolutely clean and in excellent condition. The bed is firm and comfortable. The smallish desk is functional but it would have been better if the TV was placed on the wall and liberate some space on the desk. The closet is adequate and the fridge well stocked and operating. Internet service is available in two ways but it is impractical if you need to avail yourself of the free offering in the lobby through the hotel computers. Wireless or Ethernet in the room is unreasonably expensive particularly in a country which is very competitively priced in its wireless communications. The roof restaurant also bar also breakfast room has spectacular view of Athens and is served by competent personnel; beware that Stella at breakfast time will remember you even if you come again three years later!!! Similarly the front desk and the concierge boys are accommodating and knowledgeable.
This is a rare find in Greece where promises are incompatible with offerings in big cities. The price level is attractive and corresponds to the value received or even more attractive than most. There will be no opulence in the lobby, no grandiose room setting or spa or Jacuzzi etc. We were here to enjoy Athens not buy the hotel and the hotel made our life easy and enjoyable. STRONGLY RECOMMENDED.
